Book Watch: Releasing This Week #48

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of November 29th-December 5th that I have pre-ordered.

Legend by Marie Lu will be released in the U.S. on November 29, 2011 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Legend is the first book in a new series by the same name by author Marie Lu.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition is 336 pages.

Legend is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

As I already spotlighted Legend for my Book Watch post earlier this month, I won’t go on and on for too long about how I can’t wait to get and read this book. I had an ARC that I received through a trade, but I knew I wouldn’t get to read it before release so I passed it along, and I was right. But I really hope to read it before the end of the year.

I’ve had this on pre-order ever since I heard the chatter. And there has been a lot of talk about this book, especially with the movie rights being optioned.

The description promises action and a love story – two things I think are perfect to have in any dystopian novel. I can’t wait to meet June and Day and see just what the Republic is really like and what it’s been doing that is so “sinister.”

Kiss of Frost by Jennifer Estep will be released in the U.S. on November 29, 2011 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by K-Teen, the print edition is 368 pages.

Kiss of Frost is the second book in the Mythos Academy series by the author.

I heard about this series a few months back and was intrigued. I purchased the first book in the series Touch of Frost this past summer and added Kiss of Frost to my pre-orders for this week.

While I haven’t yet read the first book, I’ve heard great things from trusted reviewers about both books. And I’m thrilled that the second book in the series is coming out this week so that I’ll get a chance to read them back-to-back, hopefully in January.

I can’t wait to meet Gwen Frost and Logan Quinn and all the rest of the warriors-in-training at Mythos Academy. I’ve grown to love books about students in magical, paranormal or other supernatural boarding schools and so of course this series got added to my list.

I did end up taking a peek at the description for this second book, and I’m dying to find out just who exactly is trying to kill Gwen and why. And I really want to read the first book in the series to find out more about what happened between Logan and Gwen in that book.

Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally will be released in the U.S. on December 1, 2011, in the U.S. in paperback and eBook formats.

It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Sourcebooks Fire, the print edition is 288 pages.

I only recently heard of Catching Jordan and it looked just so super cute that I had to pre-order it. While it’s not my typical type of contemporary read – dramatic, dark and depressing – it does sound like a lot of fun. And a light and flirty read is perfect to check out around the holidays.

I love that this story is about an athletic female main character who is the captain and quarterback on her school’s football team. I’m not sure I would have read a book about the captain of the cheer squad. And I’m excited to find out what happens when a new boy in school joins the team and becomes not only competition for her position but also a possible love interest.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book that is under three hundred pages and I can’t wait for it to download later this week. This is one that I will definitely be adding to the top of my reading pile.

It’s another slow release week – only three books pre-ordered – which is a good thing because December 6th has some amazing books coming out that I’ve been dying to add to my permanent collection for close to a year, if not more.

While I’m not sure if I’ll get a chance to read these three books before the end of the year, I definitely plan on reading them at the beginning of next year.

I hate feeling like I’ve missed an amazing book’s release and with so many slow release weeks I keep feeling like I have. While my wallet thanks me for not buying yet another book, my eBook shelf always wants more.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
