My Reading Pile #37

Well, where last week was a slow week, this week wasn’t quite as slow, even though it was a holiday week. On Monday and Tuesday I received a total of eleven books and some amazing swag in my mailbox.

And while a couple of those books were damaged, a couple are only mine temporarily, and many of them have already been sent on to others from quickie giveaways I held, I am just so happy it wasn’t another empty mailbox week.

As I am sharing what I received in my mailbox this week, I’m giving credit to Kristi at The Story Siren who came up with the idea of sharing what’s in her mailbox each week.

I received these five books from a trade with another blogger. This was the package that was tattered and torn and severely delayed by the post office. My poor copy of Wings of the Wicked was dirtied, shredded and totally beaten up and my copy of A Touch Morbid was scuffed, but fortunately not as destructed.

I gave away all of the books but A Touch Morbid which I’ve already read and reviewed before I created this post, because I just couldn’t wait to read it. And I’m sure I’ll be reading it again a few times before release day.

I received temporary custody of Clockwork Prince from a mini tour of the ARC from the ladies at The YA Sisterhood. It will be headed out on Monday to the next stop, but I will hopefully have read and reviewed it by then.

I received a copy of A Touch Morbid and a signed copy of Anathema thanks to Mindy of Magical Urban Fantasy Reads. Mindy saw how devastated I was for not getting a copy of A Touch Morbid and offered to send me hers. I begged her not to, but she insisted because she’s just so amazing, and of course my MIA copy arrived the day before I got hers. So, I will be sending it back to her, because she just has to read it. But I will be keeping the signed book for me.

I also received a few ARCs from a trade I had done awhile back with Alex of Electrifying Reviews. As I have already read and reviewed Dead Rules, I will be passing this ARC along. And as I’d received an ARC of Blood Red Road from Jaime of Two Chicks on Books some time ago, I will also pass this along on my blog My Reading Pile.

And, I received the most amazing swag pack in the mail from author Brodi Ashton. I was talking with Jaime of Two Chicks on Books on Twitter and she mentioned getting Cole’s guitar pick necklace and some other swag thanks to the author. Well, this totally amazing author saw our conversation and offered to send me one too. And I jumped at the chance.

I absolutely love collectible guitar picks and these two for Everneath are amazing. Especially since I read Everneath and know… well I can’t say what I know, but I am so unbelievably happy to have them. And yes, Everneath is an absolutely amazing book.

Anyway, onto what I plan on reading this week…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.

(November 27-December 3, 2011)

First up is Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare. I received an ARC through a mini tour thanks to the wonderful bloggers at The YA Sisterhood. I only have the book for a few days, so it’s right at the top of the pile. And as release date is only just over a week away, I’m super excited to get a chance to read this now.

I loved Clockwork Angel. It was the first steampunk book I’d read and the concept intrigued me. It wasn’t too heavily steeped in the genre to make the story feel totally out of my comfort zone. And the story had all the elements I loved about The Mortal Instruments with the Shadow Hunters, lovable characters, and the author’s incredible writing.

I can’t wait to start reading this book and find out just what’s going to happen with Tessa, Will and Jem. I heard that the story is even more amazing than the first book in The Infernal Devices series and I am excited to find out for myself.

Next up on the pile is Dirty Blood by Heather Hildenbrand. I purchased the eBook to read prior to reading the sequel, Cold Blood, for the blog tour I’ll be participating in next month. The author offered me a copy of this first book, but I missed the email and ended up buying it.

This series sounds dark and gritty and based on the description a book I will totally enjoy. While I’ve read several books about werewolves, I’ve never read one about a character who hunts and kills them.

And as the description doesn’t offer up much about the main character or what’s in store for them in this book, I am super curious to find out. And can’t wait to start reading it later this week.

Wishful Thinking reads:

I would love to read On a Dark Wing by Jordan Dane, which is the book I spotlighted yesterday for my Book Watch post. It has been teasing me on my eBookshelf for weeks and after reading a comment on my post from someone who read it, it’s now moved itself right up to my wishful thinking read for this week.

I can technically take A Touch Morbid off my wishful thinking reads list because I did receive it this week and read it and loved it. But it is still a wishful thinking read, because I wish I could read it again and again.

Those left behind:

I did not finish both reads from last week’s pile because I ended up going off pile to read A Touch Morbid. As soon as I finish Clockwork Prince I will be reading Hushed, so I’m only just a few days behind on my reading pile and hope to finish that book and both books on this week’s pile.

I did manage to stay request free this week, though it’s been tough. There are just so many books I’m dying to request from the 2012 catalogs, but I’ve held my ground.

Though I did forget that the other week I received the catalog from Macmillan Audio and was asked if there were any audiobooks I wanted for review and ended up selecting four, including Cinder, which I received last week for download and which I hope to listen to and review soon.
