Starcrossed is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.
Although there are a few other books that I’m looking forward to on May 31st, Starcrossed has been the one I’ve been anticipating the most. I have heard whispers of such amazing things about this book. But even before I heard them, I knew that this would be a book for me. And it wasn’t just the beautiful cover that drew me in.
Any book that talks about myths and legends and destiny calls out to me. Just the title, Starcrossed, evokes images of separated lovers fighting to be together. Add to that characters who have the power of demigods with an elaborate history that turns myth into reality makes this book sound pretty amazing.
I have hidden from almost all reviews, even though I am subscribed to the author’s blog and get notified when a new review is mentioned. But I squint while reading the email so as not to accidentally read any spoilers. I want to completely be surprised when I finally get a chance to read this book next week. But I do know that this is one of those books that everyone is talking about.
I am so excited that this book is the first in a new series. I love this trend of modernized mythologies and cannot wait to start reading this debut author’s book. And I am certain that not only is this a book to watch for, but an author and series to keep on top of the watch list.
HarperTeen is giving readers a chance to browse inside Starcrossed, HERE, for those who need to know a little bit more to be sure.
The second book in this series, currently titled Dreamless, will be released in 2012.
How do you defy destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it’s getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she’s haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they’re destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.
