I know I already spotlighted a book for May 24th last week, but I just had to post one for Blood Magic, which was such a wicked cool book. I loved it and was so glad I got a chance to read this book early. In fact, I might have read it a little too early as I thought that it was releasing in April when I agreed to give the ARC away. So, I read it in March and reviewed it here on the blog. But this is a book that I have not forgotten.
The story is dark, the writing is mesmerizing and there is a lot of blood. So, if you’re a visual reader and are super squeamish about reading about blood, then read this on an empty stomach while lying down. But do read this.
I cannot wait until it finally comes out and I can get my finished copy of the book. As I gave it away I don’t even have it here to look through. I miss Silla and Nick even more than I did immediately after reading the story and this is definitely one of those books that I wish was part of a multi-book series.
I know there’s a standalone companion novel coming out in the same world, but it’s not the same as a sequel. I would love to see what happens to Nick and Silla after we leave them at the end of this book. And there are just so many questions I have. I definitely want to know more about the magic and the world.
The author’s writing is true poetry. This is a story you can completely get drawn into, even though it is macabre and disturbing. As far as May 24th releases go, there is no question that this is a book to watch out for.

The Blood Keeper, a companion novel to Blood Magic, is slated for release in summer 2012.
This page-turning debut novel will entice fans who like their paranormal romances dark and disturbing. It’s a natural next-read for fans of Stephanie Meyer, Carrie Jones, and Becca Fitzpatrick. But instead of mythical creatures, blood magic has everything to do with primal human desires like power, wealth, and immortality.
Everywhere Silla Kennicott turns she sees blood. She can’t stop thinking about her parents alleged murder-suicide. She is consumed by a book filled with spells that arrives mysteriously in the mail. The spells share one common ingredient: blood, and Silla is more than willing to cast a few. What’s a little spilled blood if she can uncover the truth? And then there’s Nick—the new guy at school who makes her pulse race. He has a few secrets of his own and is all too familiar with the lure of blood magic. Drawn together by a combination of fate and chemistry, Silla and Nick must find out who else in their small Missouri town knows their secret and will do anything to take the book and magic from Silla.
