The gracious and amazingly talented author Tiffany King has agreed to be my very first interview here on Fiktshun. Of course I bombarded her with a ton of questions as any rookie interviewer will do. But she was kind enough to answer all of them here.
She has also donated a lovely tote bag and some signed Meant to Be cards for the giveaway. In addition, for the giveaway, I have purchased two signed copies of her book, which I absolutely LOVED, and reviewed here if you want to know more about this amazing book.
Giveaway details and rules are below the interview.
My daughter was my biggest inspiration for Meant to Be. I wanted to give her a book that she could lose herself in. I wanted a great love story to share with her. So many books deal with triangle situations that I wanted to give her something different. No team Edwards or Jacobs here hehehe.
The setting plays an important part in your story, what made you choose Santa Cruz, California as the backdrop?
Without boring you with details, I had a not so much fun childhood but when I was in 7th grade, I spent 5 of the happiest months of my childhood in Santa Cruz. I always knew that someday, I would pay homage to this wonderful town that changed my life.
Without revealing any plot points, what was your favorite part of the story to write?
I loved, loved, loved the first time Mark and Krista met. Even now it gives me happy goose bumps.
Who was your favorite character to write/develop?
Mmmmmmm Mark was my favorite character to write. What’s more fun than writing about some “dreamy” guy? : o)
When you wrote Meant to Be, was it always in the back of your mind that there would be a sequel?
Yep, I always knew Krista and Mark would boss me into writing a couple more stories. Plus Shawn needs his day in the spotlight; I guess he has Jacob Black complex hehe.
I know it’s very early, the ink is still drying on the printed page of your debut book, but do you have any sneak peeks into the sequel that you can give fans?
Sneak peeks are hard because sooooo many people still don’t know the big secret from MTB but for those of you that have read it, I can tell you the paranormal in the second book is going to be EPIC!!!!!
Well, I of course have always had a little nagging in the back of my head but I was always way tooooo intimidated. Eek writing a book just seemed way too hard. Krista and Mark practically wrote Meant to Be for me hehehe : o)
What was your favorite part of the writing process? Your least favorite?
My favorite part of the whole writing process was the madness I felt getting the story written. I loved seeing characters move from my mind onto a page. My least favorite is the marketing ugh, ugh, ugh I hate asking peeps to spend their hard earned money.
You are an avid Tweeter. Some new authors may not be as comfortable as you utilizing social media as a form of marketing. How has your experience been?
I love the entire twitterville universe. The tweeps are the absolute best. Finding tweeps you can relate to is the most important part of twitter. I feel my close tweeps are the best though hehe : o)
Do you have any suggestions or do’s or don’ts about self-marketing for a new author starting out?
I’m not going to lie self-marketing is tough. You’re responsible for every aspect of your book. The best advice I can give is, to establish a high following in at least one social media network. Support other authors and understand that the book bloggers are crucial to helping others discover your book.
My favorite kind of paranormal is tough. I can’t say I love all vampire books though I have discovered several series I love. I can’t say I love all magic books just because Harry Potter was spectacular. I guess I’m a paranormal snob hehe.
What is your favorite YA book turned into a movie or do you not have one (and it doesn’t have to be recent)?
Wow you’re killing me here Fiktshun, favorite YA book into a movie?? You know I’m a Potter fan but I’m also a Twi-hard too. Plus the jury is out on new ones that are on their way, like the Hunger Games.
In your story, Krista has a boy that haunts her dreams. In real life do you believe there is a dream boy or girl for everyone? Have you met yours?
Yes, I’m a romantic through and through I believe there is a perfect match for everyone. Do I believe it’s just one person that you have to search for NO. Am I with mine? Absolutely, I have been married for almost 17 years and I know he is the other half to my soul. <3
In the books you read, do you like the bad boy or do you side with the good guy?
I’m a geek, I always side with the good guy. Maybe it’s because I’m a mom and don’t want my daughter to go for the bad boy hehe.
And because I just have to know:
Team Edward or Jacob (sparkly vamps series)?
Edward of course!!
Team Luc or Gabe (Personal Demons series)?
Gabe, sorry I will pick the angel every time.
