Goodreads description…

What does it mean when your school is voted the most dangerous in America? It’s time to kick some hellion butt…

After not really surviving her junior year (does “undead” count as survival?), Kaylee Cavanaugh has vowed to take back her school from the hellions causing all the trouble. She’s going to find a way to turn the incarnations of Avarice, Envy and Vanity against one another in order to protect her friends and finish this war, once and forever.

But then she meets Wrath and understands that she’s closer to the edge than she’s ever been. And when one more person close to her is taken, Kaylee realizes she can’t save everyone she loves without risking everything she has….

Line_001

WITH ALL MY SOUL is the stunning conclusion to the Soul Screamers series by author Rachel Vincent. With an intriguing new character and a new mortal sin, a gripping storyline and a shocking turn of events, this final installment is an exhilarating, heartrending and epic finish to this must-read series.

No matter how hard she fights and no matter how great the risk to herself, Kaylee Cavanaugh has not been able to defeat the hellion that wants her soul. With each loss hitting closer to home, Kaylee is not sure how many more people she cares about she can bear to lose, especially knowing that she’s the one Avari really wants.

And when he takes someone she loves, someone whose life she is not willing to risk, she must quickly find a way to stop him once and for all or be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. Because Avari has nothing but time, has nothing to lose and will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Action-packed, electrifying and at times heartbreaking, WITH ALL MY SOUL takes readers on one last journey with Kaylee Cavanaugh as she faces off against a seemingly unstoppable enemy that has pursued her through life and the afterlife. With anger as her motivation and an unlikely ally, Kaylee’s greatest challenge yet will keep readers on the edge of their seats and their eyes glued to the page as events unfold and lead up to the book’s dramatic conclusion.

Author Rachel Vincent has once again put her characters through an incredible ordeal and taken her readers on a roller coaster ride of emotion in WITH ALL MY SOUL. Filled with exciting plot twists and turns, dialogue that is both heartfelt and moving and sarcastic and amusing, and a nail-biting build-up to an outcome that is heart-stopping, this last installment in the series can only be called phenomenal.

The author does not leave readers hanging at the story’s end. All loose-ends have been tied up and all the larger questions about the remaining characters have been answered. And while the story wraps up in a way that will satisfy those readers who like to say their goodbyes and move on, it does allow for the reader’s imagination to go beyond the story and look into the futures of those characters that do remain, for those readers that aren’t quite ready.

WITH ALL MY SOUL is the perfect finish to this always entertaining, always surprising and always thrilling series.

And this story and series is a must for readers who want to discover a world that is unique, writing that is engaging, clever and oftentimes breathtaking, a plot that is suspense-, danger- and tension-filled, a heroine that is incredibly brave, selfless and relatable, and a love story that is eternal.

Reviewer gives this book…

06menu

Like In-N-Out Burger‘s infamous secret menu this one deserves my off-the-menu 6 star rating.

On a personal note…

If I had a million words at my disposal instead of the meager few that seem to rattle around my brain when sitting down to compose my thoughts, even then I don’t think I could come up with the appropriate combination to express just what this series has meant to me or just how truly amazing I think it is.

And this final installment, this final chapter in these characters’ lives, has been no less of a roller coaster than its predecessors, no less heartbreaking, nail-biting, tension-filled, bittersweet, heart-rending. It was a phenomenal ending to an absolutely riveting series that just got better and better as it progressed.

WITH ALL MY SOUL was everything I’d hoped it would be in a series-ending book. I had incredibly high expectations that I wasn’t entirely sure could be met. And yet they were. Met. And surpassed.

I did not expect to get so caught up in the story that I’d forget this was a series-ending book. I did not expect to fall for a newly introduced character. I did not expect to be surprised by how things came together at the end. And I did not expect the ending when it arrived, all too quickly.

I expected tears. And yes there were tears. From the moment I began the last quarter of the book until the story’s end I could not stop tearing up. Every sentence felt like a goodbye. A goodbye I was not ready for. Every heartfelt passage was bittersweet, heartbreaking.

Every action, every page, brought me one step closer to the end. And after having been so distracted by the events taking place in the first three-fourths of the story, the realization that this series was coming to a close made every single thing that happened in that final fourth that much more emotional.

And it still didn’t prepare me for the end… a part of which continues to haunt me even after a re-read.

I expected a roller coaster. And there was definitely one of those. I expected sarcasm, dialogue that would make me grin, a brave, stubborn and fiercely protective heroine and a mortal sin that would make this story explosive. And I got all of that and then some.

I expected to fall in love with this final book in the series. And Rachel Vincent made it just so easy to do so. It was so easy to once again get lost in Kaylee’s world as she prepared to face just one more obstacle to a happily ever afterlife. It was so easy to be captivated by her characters – some charming, some horrifying, some a little bit of both.

And it was so easy to connect with Kaylee, who was every bit as strong and determined and sarcastic as she’d been throughout the series, but who also displayed a confidence she didn’t previously possess.

I couldn’t have been more proud of, more fearful for, more heartsick for, more in awe of who Kaylee became by the end of this series. A character who I liked right from the start was one that I absolutely adored by the end.

While I won’t reveal whether Kaylee gets a happy ending… or even if she makes it to the end of this book… I will just say that I loved every single moment of WITH ALL MY SOUL. Even the moments that broke my heart.

And no, I would not change a single thing about this book… well… except for the fact that it is a series-ending book. It was just that out-of-this-world amazing. It is just that unforgettable.

Favorite passage…

I had more than a few favorite passages. Some passages were actually paragraphs that spanned pages. So finding a favorite passage that was short enough to include in this post wasn’t easy. So I chose two.

And while I would have loved to include a certain quote from Avari from page 63 or one from Ira from page 82 – both of which were beautifully written – or one of the many lengthier passages about a certain Reaper (especially pages 299, 312-315, 322, 364), as they would be best discovered within the context of the story I thought I’d share these instead.

“So you really did grow up on cookies and cake. I knew it.”

“That’s why I’m so sweet now. I have no idea what went wrong with Nash.”

And…

“Take a nice, long look at your future, reaper. You’ll soon be burning as fuel for hundreds of tiny fires.”

Tod laughed out loud. “If that’s your way of saying I’m hot, rest assured, I already know.”

With All My Soul Mini-Reading Challenge Begins

Mar 19

WithAllMySoul_minibanner

I cannot believe that in just one short week from today Rachel Vincent’s WITH ALL MY SOUL, the final book in her Soul Screamers series, will be releasing. As excited as I am for it to hit the shelves – both physical and electronic – I am so very sad that it will officially mark the end of this amazing series.

Yes, I’ve already read it, and I know exactly how things end. But because its release was still forthcoming, it felt very much like maybe, just maybe it wasn’t over. And yes, I am still holding out hope that there will be another novella or two in the series… sort of a “where are they now” story that will give us just another peek into the characters’ lives and into this amazing world the author has so brilliantly crafted over the past few years.

And yes, I’m also sad that this will be my last reading challenge as pertains to the Soul Screamers series. But we’ve reached the final sin and unless “they” determine there are a few more sins of that calibre, it’s likely this series won’t be resurrected. Of course, I am ever hopeful.

The Challenge

I know that WITH ALL MY SOUL won’t be releasing until next week… but when I decided to host this challenge the release date was listed as March 19th. And I decided not to change the date as it’s also very likely that a few readers might have been able to get their hands on it prior to its release. To my knowledge, WITH ALL MY SOUL has not been embargoed.

So…

If you haven’t yet signed up for the reading challenge, CLICK HERE for all the details and to leave your link to sign up.

The giveaway associated with that post has closed, but there is a giveaway for those challenge participants who read WTIH ALL MY SOUL and link their reviews and/or book thoughts posts in the Linky List below.

You have until APRIL 30th, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific to read it, review it and leave your link to be entered into the giveaway.

There is no minimum or maximum length required for your review. Nor does your review have to be in English. And there is no set format for how you choose to review. However, it has to be clear enough to anyone who reads it that the book has actually been read. I do check out all reviews for challenge participants!

AND, if there are going to be spoilers for the book in your review, PLEASE state that in the Linky List entry below.

That’s it!

Good luck to everyone! While the challenge might not seem that challenging, saying goodbye to a well-loved series and its characters is HARD! So I completely understand those who might have already signed up but just can’t take that next step.

But… this just means that now the author, Rachel Vincent, can create new characters for us to love, hate, angst over, suffer along with. Of course, if you’re like me, and you also have taken that journey with her characters in the Unbound series, you’ll have one more goodbye to say before being able to say hello to her next endeavor.

Harlequin TEEN’s spring Reading into Romance

Spring is in the air and HarlequinTEEN wants you to fall in love! And they have just the books to make that happen!

In this epic tour, we’ll be featuring 9 authors and their amazing, toe-curlingly romantic books!

I love this blog tour by Harlequin TEEN and Kismet Book Touring that celebrates some of my favorite authors this spring. And I am so super excited to be a part of it and have the very amazing and enormously talented Rachel Vincent stop by to talk about why romance is so important to her stories.

As one of my favorite authors of all time, who has two series ending this spring that have just the right amount of romance, romantic tension and chemistry, I loved getting to hear her thoughts on the subject. Especially since I am one of those readers who, through practically every book in the Soul Screamers series, wondered about the state of the relationship of two of her characters.

And while I would never reveal what happened in WITH ALL MY SOUL – yes I read it, and yes it was awesome – or any of the books in the Soul Screamers series, I will just say that this amazing author has definitely not “underestimated the importance of romance” in any of her stories.

Anyway…

You’re not here to read my ramble. You’re here to read what Rachel Vincent has to say. And if you haven’t yet taken a peek at the description for WITH ALL MY SOUL, the final book in the Soul Screamers series, I have some information about it and places to find it online included in this post. And for those of you who haven’t yet checked out this series, there are some brief descriptions for each of the books also included below.

Rachel Vincent will also be stopping at Parajunkee and The Bookish Brunette today for the tour. So you’ll definitely want to visit both of those blogs, if you haven’t already, to see what else she has to say.

And if you scroll down just a little bit farther in the post there is also a giveaway. So be sure to check it out.

But first, let me turn my blog over to Rachel Vincent.

Guest Post

Why is romance so important to my stories?

Romance is vital to most of the stories I’ve written because at its core, even if you were to take out all the pretty faces and well-timed sweet words, romance is about human connection, and human connections are what let an audience connect to a story. Any story. We want to read about people going through the things we’ve been through. Even if those people secretly have fur and claws, or can predict death, or spend half their time in a nightmare dimension with monsters determined to feed upon their souls.

Even in fantasy—especially in fantasy—the human elements of the story must feel real. Beyond that, in my opinion, they must feel vital. That’s what’s so great about writing romance in YA, in particular. It makes sense for the relationships to feel like the most important thing in the world, because as teens, that’s really what it felt like. At least, it did for me. ;)

Obviously, romance isn’t the only kind of human connection I’m drawn to in my writing. I also tend to write stories about family relationships and friendships strong enough to count as family bonds. And since there is no story without conflict, I work really hard on conflict and motivation in my books. But what continues to surprise me is that no matter what kind of torture I put my characters through—no matter what kind of challenges they know they’ll face in the next book—the questions I get most often from readers aren’t “How are they going to survive?” or “How will Kaylee get them out of this one.”

Nope. People ask, “Will they get back together?” and “Will they stay together?”

As a fledgling author, I underestimated the importance of the romance for readers. That’s not a mistake I’ll ever make again. ;)

With All My Soul

WITH ALL MY SOUL by Rachel Vincent will be released in the U.S. on March 26, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 384 pages.

WITH ALL MY SOUL is the seventh and final full length novel in author Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series.

***

As if there was any doubt about which book I’d choose to spotlight for the week of March 26, 2013. WITH ALL MY SOUL, the final book in the Soul Screamers series, is the book I’m most excited for. The book I keep wishing didn’t have to be a “goodbye” to the characters and the series. The book I had a chance to read early, and still can’t believe is the end.

The Soul Screamers series is, and will always be, one of my most favorite series in YA. It’s the series with more roller-coaster moments than any other series I’ve read. It’s one of the only series that successfully got me to switch “teams” with no more than a twinge of sadness for having done so. And it’s a series that is packed full of shocks and surprises, twists and turns, characters I love and detest – sometimes at the same time – and a storyline that just kept getting better and better.

As sad as I am to see this series end, I think it ended perfectly for the characters. It tied up the loose ends but still kept me feeling like those characters that did remain at the end of the series would continue on. And WITH ALL MY SOUL kept with the flow of the series by introducing a new challenge for the characters to tackle, one that was just as riveting as the rest, and still managed to move forward the overarching plot so that everything could come to a close at the story’s end.

Of course I’d love to talk more about WITH ALL MY SOUL. I’d love talk about what happened with a certain hellion. I’d love to talk about a new character who caught my eye. I’d love to talk about just what happened with all the characters, actually. But as I’ve already rambled a little bit in my Book Thoughts post over on The Annex, and because I swore to not reveal even the tiniest of secrets about what happened, and because it’s so much better to read these things within the context of the book, I’ll refrain from saying too much more. But you can…

Expect a lightning-fast read. Expect suspense. Expect tears. Expect to be surprised. Expect this final book in the series to deliver the awesome. As if anything Rachel Vincent could write would be anything less. Expect to want to read it, and the entire series, all over again.

So…

Of course there was never any need for me to check which other books were releasing the week of March 26th for me to know which book I’d choose to watch this week, which book I thought most deserved the spotlight, and which book I am most thrilled, excited, heartbroken, about. And if I could spotlight WITH ALL MY SOUL again next week… and the week thereafter… and just maybe even the week after that… I totally would.

It is, after all, the perfect end to an amazing series.

Signed WAMS

I was so unbelievably thrilled when Author Rachel Vincent sent me a few signed copies of her beautiful, heartbreaking, amazing and incredibly awesome book WITH ALL MY SOUL. One of which was personally inscribed to me. Two of which were mine to keep… or give away.

And while I would have loved to share both copies with my blog’s readers, I just had to give a copy to my best blogger friend Jaime of Two Chicks on Books who is just about as enthusiastic about this series as I am. And I’m just dying to see what she thinks about certain things that transpire. There will be much DM’ing when she reads it.

Anyway…

For those of you who haven’t yet had the chance to read WITH ALL MY SOUL and would like to, just check out the details and enter in the Rafflecopter below.

While I’m not making it a requirement that you’ve read all other books in the series and plan on reading this one early, I’d hope that if you enter you do plan on reading it before release so you don’t take that chance away from someone else who is eager to read it now.

Oh… and if you are the winner, please do not share any spoilers or passages before the book’s release date.

This final book in the Soul Screamers series is absolutely amazing! As much as I hated saying goodbye, I loved the way the author chose to end her series.
