Book Watch: Releasing This Week #110

Feb 03

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of February 5th-February 11th that I have pre-ordered.

05

Scarlet

SCARLET by Marissa Meyer will be released in the U.S. on February 5, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Feiwel & Friends, the print edition is 464 pages.

SCARLET is the second book in author Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles. The third book in the series, CRESS, is slated for release in 2014, and the fourth book in the series, WINTER, is slated for release in 2015.

Line_001

I cannot believe that SCARLET is releasing this week. I had it on my pile to be read. Twice. And I didn’t get a chance to read it early. And now, of course, I’ll have the finished copy downloading to my Kindle on Tuesday.

I’ve been dying to read this second book in the author’s The Lunar Chronicles since the moment I finished reading – and listening to – CINDER. I was so surprised and amazed by that book that I couldn’t believe I had to wait for over a year for the second installment. Well, apparently I did survive the long wait. No one could be more shocked than I am.

But now that it’s releasing I’m even more desperate for the chance to meet Scarlet Benoit and Wolf and see just what’s been happening with Cinder. And I am anxious to find out whether or not the Lunar Queen has managed to entrap Prince Kai.

SCARLET sounds like another awesome story in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles and I cannot wait to see what the author does with her versions of these characters in this book.

While I won’t get the chance to add SCARLET to the pile this week, I’m hoping to read it at the end of the month.

Unravel Me

UNRAVEL ME by Tahereh Mafi will be released in the U.S. on February 5, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 480 pages.

UNRAVEL ME is the second full-length book in author Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me series. The third book in the series, as yet untitled, is slated for release in November 2013.

Line_001

I am so unbelievably psyched for UNRAVEL ME to download to my Kindle this week. I’d given away my ARC months ago and I desperately want to re-read this story. I miss Warner and Adam and I want to see if my memory of everything that happened in this second book in the series is correct or if it got somehow skewed with the passage of time.

As I read this book ages ago I can’t pretend to guess at what happened. I know what happened. And I know just how things ended. I also know just how torturous the wait will be for the next installment in the series. Because there are just so many directions that third book can take. So. Many. Directions.

I could go on. And on. And on about just what happened in this book, how I have all the words to talk about what went on with… and how I have all the feels about….

But it would spoil the entire read. Especially if I were to talk about this one particular scene…. Yeah, I probably shouldn’t do that.

And as I already spotlighted UNRAVEL ME for my Book Watch post a couple of weeks ago, I won’t ramble on about just how excited I am for its release. How Juliette’s decisions might very well “involve choosing between her heart–and Adam’s life.” And how much of a role Warner plays in this sequel.

And, even though I read UNRAVEL ME, there is no question I will be re-reading it this month. And possibly again next month. And the one after that. And on. And on. And on….

Etiquette and Espionage

ETIQUETTE & ESPIONAGE by Gail Carriger will be released in the U.S. on February 5, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 320 pages.

ETIQUETTE & ESPIONAGE is the first book in the author’s Finishing School series. The second book in the series, CURTSIES & CONSPIRACIES, is slated for release in November 2013.

Line_001

I have ETIQUETTE & ESPIONAGE on my reading pile this week. But I am so tempted to read the finished eBook copy when it downloads to my Kindle so I don’t accidentally bend one of the pages in the very gorgeous ARC I have.

I am so glad to finally be able to read this awesome-sounding book, to meet Sophronia, to step inside the Finishing School, and to see just how prepared she will be for a life of “deceit” and “espionage.”

I cannot imagine this world that seems to teach two diametrically opposing things to these young girls. But I can’t wait to immerse myself in it and find out just how they do it.

I haven’t read the author’s Parasol Protectorate series, but it seems that this series can stand on its own. And I cannot wait to start reading this book in the next couple of days.

02

There are a ton of new books releasing this week, but I’ve only pre-ordered three of them… and the one non-YA read I’ve listed, HOUSE RULES. So, I suppose, that’s technically four.

I’m trying so very hard to reduce my book binging, but it’s not easy. Especially when there are books like HYSTERIA just begging to be added to my collection. Or the latest book in The Lying Game series. Or even Ally Carter’s Heist Society, whose earlier books I own but have yet to read.

But as I’ve purchased a ton of new books these past few weeks, I’m hoping to wait until after release date before I make any new bookish purchases beyond the four pre-orders. I want to give myself a little more time to decide if they’re books I must have in my collection, ones I want to have in my collection, or if they’re simply ones I’m just mildly curious about.

Still… I’m almost positive I will be adding HYSTERIA to my collection this week. In fact, I may end up pre-ordering it as soon as I finish writing this post….

Anyway….

If you’ve been anxiously awaiting UNRAVEL ME’s release date, I hope you’ll be able to add it to your collection this week and that you won’t have to wait weeks and weeks for it to show up.

It is every bit as amazing as it sounds… and then some… and some more after that.

But I should probably wrap this up before I go on another gush-fest like I did back in July on The Annex. I will just say that any fears I had about its awesomeness were quickly set aside as soon as I started reading.

So… I hope you have an amazing reading and book buying week this week and that you have a few titles you’re adding to your collection. If there are any I missed, please let me know!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch Releasing This Week #58

Feb 06

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of February 7th-February 13th that I have pre-ordered.

***

Dead to You by Lisa McMann will be released in the U.S. on February 7, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 256 pages.

***

I can’t believe Dead to You is releasing this week and that my Kindle pre-order will be downloading in just a few short hours. I’ve been dying to read this book ever since I heard about it and when I received the ARC a few weeks ago I wanted to shove everything off the pile to read it, but I couldn’t.

I won’t go on endlessly since I did spotlight this last month for my Book Watch post, but Lisa McMann is an amazing writer, with a very unique writing style that I always love. And I can’t wait to read this next book of hers, which sounds incredibly dark and mysterious, about a boy, Ethan, who had been kidnapped, has somehow gotten free and has been reunited with his family only to find that something “unspeakable” is blocking his memory.

It sounds chilling and I just can’t wait to uncover the mystery.

Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood will be released in the U.S. on February 7, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and in hardcover and eBook formats at Barnes & Noble.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition is 272 pages.

Born Wicked is the first book in The Cahill Witch Chronicles by author Jessica Spotswood and is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

 ***

I have been excited for the release of Born Wicked for what seems like ever. I have an early copy, but haven’t had a chance to read it, but I will be reading it very soon. I’m just not sure if I’ll read the ARC or the eBook I have pre-ordered.

This cover is absolutely stunning and it and its title are what drew me to this book in the first place. But once I read the description, the story itself ensnared me. This story about witches sounds totally intriguing, filled with secrets upon secrets – the girls being witches, whatever Cate discovers about her mother, a “forbidden romance,” and what sounds like a dark fate that the Cahill girls have waiting for them.

I cannot wait to get this on my reading pile because Born Wicked sounds like a debut that I definitely shouldn’t miss out on reading right now.

Two Truths and a Lie by Sara Shepard will be released in the U.S. on February 7, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 304 pages.

Two Truths and a Lie is the third book in the Lying Game series by author Sara Shepard. The fourth book in the series, Hide and Seek, is slated for release on July 31, 2012.

***

I read the first book in this series by author Sara Shepard and loved it. I bought the sequel, Never Have I Ever, but haven’t been able to read it yet. I decided to order this third book in the series, Two Truths and a Lie, with the idea I’ll be able to read both book two and this book back-to-back before the next book comes out in July.

I have not read the description for this book because I do not want to accidentally discover any spoilers from book two, but it is linked in the cover above. I am so super curious as to what’s happened to Sutton and Emma, how much of the mystery was revealed so far in this series and what new questions have arisen since I last checked in with them.

These aren’t typically the kind of books I read, but after reading book one I can’t help but want to find out where this story will lead. It’s definitely an addictive series and I can’t wait to get caught up on it soon.

The Wood Queen by Karen Mahoney will be released in the U.S. on February 8, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Flux, the print edition is 336 pages.

The Wood Queen is the second book in The Iron Witch series by author Karen Mahoney.

***

I loved the first book in Karen Mahoney’s The Iron Witch series. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of this second book in the series. I thought the story was incredibly entertaining and I’ve been wanting to know a lot more about Donna and the world she is a part of. And I fell completely in love with the cover for book one.

The description doesn’t reveal much about what’s in store for Donna in this next book in the series, but it definitely doesn’t sound good. The Wood Queen is seeking vengeance against her and the alchemists aren’t exactly her biggest fans for what she’s done. But I get the feeling that this second installment in the series will be action-packed and I can’t wait to see what happens.

I only have four books pre-ordered this week because the Jennifer Echols book, The One That I Want, that I have listed in Other Books of Note is one I already purchased in eBook format, though the paperback edition is releasing this week.

Even though it is a fairly slow release week for books I’m purchasing, I am really excited to read all four books I have on order. And I really hope to be able to do so before the end of the month when I have quite a few books pre-ordered so that they don’t fall too far down in my reading pile.

While I love release weeks when I have at least six books pre-ordered, I am happy when there are a few slower weeks so that I can pretend that I’m keeping up with my ever-growing TBR pile.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #31

Jul 31

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my Book Watch: Releasing This Week post.

These are books for the week of August 2nd-August 8th that I have pre-ordered.

***

Never Have I Ever by Sara Shepard is the second book in The Lying Game series. It will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order from Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both formats.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 320 pages.

I first heard about The Lying Game when it was made available for review through NetGalley. I hadn’t read the author’s Pretty Little Liars series, so it was my first introduction to her writing. I thought it was an incredibly fun read and it was one of my earliest reviews here on the blog. My review with the Goodreads description for the first book is here if you’d like to check it out.

I had no idea that it was the first book in a series when I began reading it, but by the end, with the mystery only deepening, I knew that there had to be more.

In this sequel, Sutton Mercer is still trying to figure out who killed her, and now her sister Emma is in danger. All the games that Sutton and her friends played means that there are more suspects and it will be that much harder catch a killer.

I’m not sure when I’ll get to add this to my reading pile, but I’m excited to finally have it download to my Kindle on Tuesday.

Eternal by Gillian Shields is the third book in the Immortal series. It will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, a division of Harper Collins, the print edition is 368 pages.

I’ve had Eternal on pre-order for awhile. I read the first book in the series, Immortal, before I started blogging and I was completely enchanted. I bought the second book, Betrayal, and although I have not yet had the opportunity to read it, it is on my long list of books to be read

Betrayal, like the first book, is told from Evie’s perspective. But Eternal is told from Sarah’s point of view.

In this third book, Sarah Fitzalan tries to keep the sisterhood together as Evie and Helen are no longer as dedicated as they used to be. And with the dark coven readying for an attack, she wants to be prepared.

I really can’t wait to catch up on this series so I can see things from Sarah’s point of view.

The publisher is still offering a peek at the entire first book in the series on their site, HERE.

And to get a long look inside of Eternal, courtesy of the publisher, CLICK HERE.

Between by Jessica Warman will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Walter Childrens, the print edition is 464 pages.

I am not sure where I first heard about this book. It must have been around the blogosphere somewhere, but I’m not exactly sure who brought this to my attention. It might have been when I was offered a copy for trade, but due to missing pages I never got the early copy.

I pre-ordered this book solely based on the cover. I hadn’t even read the description when I clicked the button to order it for my Kindle. But after checking it out on Goodreads I was definitely intrigued.

Being stuck somewhere between here and the hereafter, and revisiting memories of Liz’s life, sounds terribly sad. And the fact that she has no memory of the events surrounding her death is even more tragic. Especially as there may be something more to her death than possibly having become an anorexic like her mother.

I have not yet read anything by this author, but I’m looking forward to her new book and hope to add it to the pile soon.

Dream Dark is a short story in the Beautiful Creatures series by authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. It will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011 in eBook format only. It is available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The eBook is published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

The second I learned Dream Dark was on Amazon, I immediately pre-ordered it. I heard about this short story on Twitter and couldn’t wait for it to finally be made available to buy. I am a huge fan of the authors and the series and there was no way I’d be missing this short story about Link.

Plus, according to the description there is a sneak peek at the first five chapters of Beautiful Chaos and that is one long look inside I will be devouring.

I am super excited to hear about Link’s transformation after being bitten by a Supernatural and look forward to diving into these beginning chapters of Beautiful Chaos in the next week or two.

The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Hyperion Books for Children, a division of the Disney Book Group, the print edition is 288 pages.

The Near Witch is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

I heard about this book ages ago. And as soon as it was made available to pre-order for my Kindle, I did. Although The Near Witch wasn’t one of my original twelve selections for the Debut Author Challenge, it was on my must reads list.

I had a chance to get an early copy through a trade and an eARC from Netgalley, but only just got to read it last week. And I loved it. Still do as a matter of fact. As I’ll be posting my review this week, I won’t go into too much detail here, but this is definitely a must read debut book.

A childhood bedtime story, a mysterious boy who appears on the moors and a hunt for missing children. Just how all of these connect and where the truth lies is the puzzle that Lexi needs to solve.

As always I’m curious to see what differences there are between the early copy and the finished copy and I’m hoping to get a chance to re-read it soon and find out.

Blood Ties by Mari Mancusi is the sixth book in the Blood Coven Vampire series. It will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. (To pre-order the eBook from B&N, click here.)

Published by Berkley Trade, the print edition is 256 pages.

I’ve been stalking this book’s release since before its predecessor, Night School, was released. I’ve been a huge fan of this series and look forward to catching up on Sunny and Rayne’s adventures with each new book.

I won’t go into too much detail as I recently spotlighted this in my Book Watch post, but Blood Ties is told from Sunny’s perspective. And it seems there may be a love triangle, as Sunny is developing feelings for Jayden. I really hope that’s not the case, because Sunny and Magnus are just so perfect for each other. I guess I’ll have to read it to find out. Also as expected, Slayer Inc. is back and, if the description is to be believed, not everyone may make it out unharmed.

I will be making room for this on the pile in the next couple of weeks as this is just one of those quick, fun reads that always make you smile – even with a few loose ends, dark turns and an ending that leaves you wondering what will happen next.

Circle of Fire by Michelle Zink is the final book in the Prophecy of the Sisters Trilogy. It will be released in the U.S. on August 3, 2011 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both formats.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 368 pages.

I discovered this series long before I started blogging and ended up reading the first two books in the series back-to-back last summer. I added this final book in the series to my pre-orders just as soon as it was made available in eBook format, but I am considering buying the hardcover as this is my favorite cover of the series. Plus, I had won signed copies of the first two books in a charitable auction, so it seems odd not to have a complete set of printed books, even if one isn’t signed.

I wanted to re-read the books before Circle of Fire‘s release, but haven’t yet received my signed copies, so it might be a few weeks before I get the chance. I am excited to get caught up with everything that’s happened to Lia and Alice and to find out whether or not Lia is able to end the Prophecy once and for all. I just hope that things end well for both sisters, but as the description says “bittersweet” I am really nervous that there will be an unhappy ending for one of them.

And yes, this is yet another series that comes to a close. I hope I don’t end up putting this at the bottom of the pile along with all other final series books I’m not ready to see end.

***

I am actually completely stunned – six-and-a-half books. I had no idea so many books were releasing this week that I have on pre-order. I thought August was a light month for releases and though I sort of knew all these books were releasing this month, I really only thought I had three books pre-ordered for the week. I was clearly wrong.

It’s kind of a reverse of last week, where I thought a lot more books were releasing. Of course I took a peek at next week’s releases and I have practically nothing pre-ordered, which might be a good thing. But I have a feeling I might find one or two new books to purchase.

I’m curious to see whether next week is a one book release week for me. It’ll be a first here on the blog since I started these weekly posts and I haven’t quite figured out how to handle a release week with fewer than three books. I guess I’ll find out next week…

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

The Extras: August

Jul 21

Yes we’re back with this month’s “Extras” post. As some of you may already know…

Whenever I find either a legal free download, an excerpt or sneak peek of a book online, I try to link to it in a related post or include the link in my sidebar (to your right).

But once a month I’ll pop them into a post for a “one-stop shop” with a brief description. You may have previously seen some of these in my sidebar and one or two may still be lingering, well here they are once more in case you missed them. (My sidebar tends to have a LOT of info.)

We have a few peeks at upcoming releases, just released books and some of them are just items that have been offered for free for awhile but you might have missed.

And yes, I know it’s not August yet, but it’s a monthly post that I do around this time each month in anticipation. Besides, wouldn’t you rather read the excerpts before the books are released? I know I would.

***

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake will be released in the U.S. on August 30, 2011.

This story sounds just as cool and creepy as its cover. A boy who hunts and kills the dead ends up in a town where a ghost, Anna Dressed in Blood, has been murdering everyone who enters her home, except him.

Anna was murdered and still wears the dress she was killed in, but now it’s covered in blood. Definitely creepy.

The publisher, Tor, is giving readers a look inside, HERE.

Hades by Alexandra Adornetto will be released in the U.S. on August 30, 2011.

Hades is the sequel to Halo which was released last year and it continues Gabriel, Ivy and Bethany’s story. In this installment, Bethany gets tricked into taking a motorcycle ride into Hell and if she wants to be freed she has to agree to a bargain that may just not be worth it.

The description is very mysterious and cryptic, but perhaps the excerpt can shed some light as to what we can expect.

The publisher, Feiwel and Friends, a division of Macmillan, is giving readers a long look, HERE.

Twisted by Gena Showalter will be released in the U.S. on August 30, 2011.

Twisted is the third book in the Intertwined series. And from the description things just keep getting worse for Aden Stone. With everything that has happened to him over the course of the past two books he now has a darkness within him that just keeps growing.

It doesn’t sound like things are going to end on a happy note at this book’s conclusion.

The author is giving readers a peek at Twisted on her website, HERE.

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead will be released in the U.S. on August 23, 2011.

This book, set in the same world as the Vampire Academy series, is about Sydney – yay – and Jill Dragomir and takes place at a human school in Palm Springs, California.

And according to the description some of the characters we’ve known from the series will make an appearance in this book.

Penguin Young Readers is offering a look at the first chapter of Bloodlines, via Scribd, HERE.

Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011.

The description promises flirting and fun for Elise and sounds like it might be a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice. Set at a prep school in Los Angeles, Elise is the principal’s daughter, the hot boy is Derek Edwards, and to round out this love triangle is the sexy outcast, Webster Grant.

Epic Fail sounds like it just might be an win.

HarperTeen is giving readers a nice long look inside, HERE.

Never Have I Ever by Sara Shepard will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011.

It is the second book in The Lying Game series. Emma is still trying to solve her twin sister’s murder. The sister she never knew she had. She is living as her sister while trying to uncover who the killer could be. In this sequel there are even more suspects and Emma is in even more danger.

HarperTeen is giving readers a super long look inside, HERE.

Eternal by Gillian Shields will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011.

Eternal is the third book in the Immortals series. This installment is about Sarah Fitzalan who is fighting to keep the sisterhood together and prepare for an attack by the dark coven. Everything is up in the air as Evie and Helen aren’t as dedicated to the sisterhood as they once were, possibly leaving Sarah on her own to fight for them all.

HarperTeen is giving readers a peek at Eternal, HERE.

Supernaturally by Kiersten White will be released in the U.S. on July 26, 2011.

Supernaturally is the second book in the Paranormalcy series. Evie is trying to fit into the normal world with limited success. She decides to do some work with IPCA, but things keep going wrong. And no matter how hard she tries, she can’t seem to avoid Reth, who tells her something about her past that is completely shocking.

Once again HarperTeen is giving readers a long look, HERE.

***

And for one more chance to take a peek, here are a few books that are available now.

Nightspell by Leah Cypess was released in the U.S. on May 31, 2011.

It is a standalone companion book to Mistwood. Darri heads to Ghostland to rescue her sister but in order to do so she must face a number of obstacles, including a “handsome ghost prince.” And she will be forced to make a decision that will threaten the “balance of power between the living and the dead.” Sounds like a pretty epic journey.

Yet another peek inside by the awesome HarperTeen, HERE.

Dead Rules by Randy Russell was released in the U.S. on June 21, 2011.

Jana Webster thought she’d be with Michael Haynes forever. But when she turns up in Dead School alone and it doesn’t seem Michael’s in any rush to join her, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Because if they can’t be together in life, they may as well be together in death. It’s what Romeo and Juliet did, after all.

***

I haven’t read all of these books, but I have read a few of them. And I managed to stay strong and not check out any of the excerpts. I plan on buying all of the upcoming books without a peek, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to take a long look inside before making a purchase.

So, I’ve included them here for your reading pleasure. Happy reading!

Review: The Lying Game

Nov 29

The Lying Game, the first book in a new series by Sara Shepard will be released on December 7, 2010 in hardcover and eBook formats.

Partial description from the publisher’s website:

I had a life anyone would kill for.

Then someone did.

The worst part of being dead is that there’s nothing left to live for. No more kisses. No more secrets. No more gossip. It’s enough to kill a girl all over again. But I’m about to get something no one else does—an encore performance, thanks to Emma, the long-lost twin sister I never even got to meet.

Now Emma’s desperate to know what happened to me. And the only way to figure it out is to be me—to slip into my old life and piece it all together. But can she laugh at inside jokes with my best friends? Convince my boyfriend she’s the girl he fell in love with? Pretend to be a happy, carefree daughter when she hugs my parents good night? And can she keep up the charade, even after she realizes my murderer is watching her every move?

Let the lying game begin.

Sutton Mercer is a bad girl. Or at least she was. Until someone killed her. Someone she knew. A friend? Her sister Laurel? Clearly she messed with the wrong person and now the only hope she has to find out the truth is with Emma, an identical twin sister she never knew she had. One she hadn’t even met until after she died.

But for Emma to discover just what happened she’ll have to fool everyone into believing that she is Sutton. Emma, a girl who doesn’t like to drink or to lie, and who has faced hardships that Sutton never had, will have to step into her Marc Jacobs strappy shoes and become the ultimate “mean girl” in order to uncover the identity of Sutton’s killer.

And if Sutton could give her one piece of advice from the grave it would be to: “Always sleep with one eye open. Never take anything for granted. Your best friends might just be your enemies.”

The Lying Game is a wickedly entertaining read. Almost all of the characters have a dark side and have the potential to have played a role in Sutton’s death – including the recently deceased Sutton Mercer herself.  And as the story unfolds the mystery continues to grow, as with every question that is answered, a new one takes its place.

The story moves quickly first page to last. And author Sara Shepard’s clever use of the first-person narrative allows readers to get a peek at what’s happening with both Sutton and Emma throughout – the only drawback being that it is easy to get caught up in Emma’s story and the switch to Sutton’s point of view can come as a bit of a surprise.

This looks to be the start of a deliciously fun mystery series.
