A Note from the Author…

Hi, booklovers!

I’m author Melissa Landers, and I’m so excited to launch STARFALL, the second and final book in my Starflight duology! This story picks up shortly after the first book ends, but now Cassia and Kane are the main characters, with Doran, Solara, and the rest of the Banshee crew pitching in to help take down an intergalactic mafia. (You know, just an ordinary day in space.) And while saying goodbye to characters is never easy, I think I gave the crew a proper sendoff with plenty of humor, heart, and action. I hope you love STARFALL as much as I do!

Haven’t read the first book? You’re in luck, because for a limited time, Starflight is on sale for 99 cents in all e-formats. Now you can binge read the entire duology in one sitting!

Description…

Life in the outer realm is a lawless, dirty, hard existence, and Solara Brooks is hungry for it. Just out of the orphanage, she needs a fresh start in a place where nobody cares about the engine grease beneath her fingernails or the felony tattoos across her knuckles. She’s so desperate to reach the realm that she’s willing to indenture herself to Doran Spaulding, the rich and popular quarterback who made her life miserable all through high school, in exchange for passage aboard the spaceliner Zenith.

When a twist of fate lands them instead on the Banshee, a vessel of dubious repute, Doran learns he’s been framed on Earth for conspiracy. As he pursues a set of mysterious coordinates rumored to hold the key to clearing his name, he and Solara must get past their enmity to work together and evade those out for their arrest. Life on the Banshee may be tumultuous, but as Solara and Doran are forced to question everything they once believed about their world—and each other—the ship becomes home, and the eccentric crew family. But what Solara and Doran discover on the mysterious Planet X has the power to not only alter their lives, but the existence of everyone in the universe…

INVADED Release Week Blitz + Giveaway

invaded

I am stoked to participate in the release week blitz for Melissa Landers’ INVADED and can’t wait for my copy to land on my Kindle so I can see what happens next with Aelyx and Cara. I love that they are going to be in different worlds, though I can’t wait for them to reunite. I just hope the ending isn’t as killer as the one in ALIENATED.

To celebrate its release, the author is sharing a giveaway for a gift card and some awesome swag, and she included a note for the blitz in which she hints about what will happen in INVADED.

As I’ve added a few extras to my post I broke up the note into three pieces, but you can find it all below.

A Note from the Author

Hey, fiction lovers. I’m Melissa Landers, author of the Alienated series (YA sci-fi from Disney-Hyperion), and today I’m bouncing with excitement because THE SEQUEL IS FINALLY HERE!

It’s been a year since we left Aelyx and Cara onboard the intergalactic transport, and INVADED begins with an emotional goodbye as they part ways—Aelyx returning to Earth to salvage the alliance, and Cara continuing to L’eihr to serve out her part of the student exchange. While they’re apart, our star-crossed lovers will face assassination attempts, betrayal, crippling self-doubt, and a sadistic alien Phys Ed class. (Because there’s no escaping PE, even in another galaxy.) When Aelyx and Cara finally reunite…well, let’s just say it’s combustive. 😉

Description…

The romantic sequel to Alienated takes long-distance relationships to a new level as Cara and Aelyx long for each other from opposite ends of the universe…until a threat to both their worlds reunites them.

Cara always knew life on planet L’eihr would be an adjustment. With Aelyx, her L’eihr boyfriend, back on Earth, working to mend the broken alliance between their two planets, Cara is left to fend for herself at a new school, surrounded by hostile alien clones. Even the weird dorm pet hates her.

Things look up when Cara is appointed as human representative to a panel preparing for a human colony on L’eihr. A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L’eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L’eihr relations. Humans don’t know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx’s people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists’ multiple attempts on Aelyx’s life.

The Way clearly needs humans’ help . . . but with what? And what will they ask for in return?

“O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou, Romeo?” Apparently he’s here, in Rachel Caine’s latest novel PRINCE OF SHADOWS and oh my gosh I am so excited for my pre-order to download.

I think Rachel Caine is an amazing writer – I am madly in love with her characters – and I can’t wait to read her retelling of the tragic tale of the Capulets and Montagues.

I love that Benvolio Montague sees Rosaline and a curse falls on Verona that rewrites their fates. I am dying to see just how this story changes because of his actions. And I really hope to be able to do so next weekend… if I can wait that long.

Description…

A thrilling retelling of the star-crossed tale of Romeo and Juliet, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Morganville Vampires series.

In the Houses of Montague and Capulet, there is only one goal: power. The boys are born to fight and die for honor and—if they survive—marry for influence and money, not love. The girls are assets, to be spent wisely. Their wishes are of no import. Their fates are written on the day they are born.

Benvolio Montague, cousin to Romeo, knows all this. He expects to die for his cousin, for his house, but a spark of rebellion still lives inside him. At night, he is the Prince of Shadows, the greatest thief in Verona—and he risks all as he steals from House Capulet. In doing so, he sets eyes on convent-bound Rosaline, and a terrible curse begins that will claim the lives of many in Verona…

…And will rewrite all their fates, forever.

CRESS is the third full-length book in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles. The fourth book in the series, WINTER, is slated for release in 2015.

Dots_Divider

I am so excited that not only will my Kindle copy of CRESS download this week but that the lovely print edition will arrive so that I can add it to my collection. I am currently mid-read and I am wildly in love with this third book in the series. It might just be my favorite yet.

I don’t know how things will end. I just know that I am totally riveted. And that I’d much rather be continuing to read CRESS instead of rambling about it here and now in this post.

Marissa Meyer is an amazing and imaginative storyteller and with each book in this series she continues to wow me. And as excited as I am to reach this story’s end, I am sad that this series will end with WINTER. Hm… maybe I should have waited to start reading CRESS so I could have further delayed the inevitable.

Description…

Rapunzel’s tower is a satellite. She can’t let down her hair—or her guard.

In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker—unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.

THE SOUND OF LETTING GO by Stasia Ward Kehoe will be released in the U.S. on February 6, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Fiking Juvenile, the print edition is 400 pages.

Dots_Divider

I feel like I’ve been waiting for ages for THE SOUND OF LETTING GO‘s release date. And in just a few more days I’ll finally get the chance to read this amazing-sounding book when it downloads to my Kindle.

I can’t wait to discover Daisy’s story, to see whether she’ll be able to completely break away from who she used to be or whether Cal will remind her of who she was and all that she gave up. I have no idea which choices I’ll root for, whose side I’ll be on, and whether I think Daisy should hold on or decide to let go.

If time permits I’d love to get this on my reading pile next week. But if not, I definitely plan on adding it to the pile after my exam on the 16th.

Description…

For sixteen years, Daisy has been good. A good daughter, helping out with her autistic younger brother uncomplainingly. A good friend, even when her best friend makes her feel like a third wheel. When her parents announce they’re sending her brother to an institution—without consulting her—Daisy’s furious, and decides the best way to be a good sister is to start being bad. She quits jazz band and orchestra, slacks in school, and falls for bad-boy Dave.

But one person won’t let Daisy forget who she used to be: Irish exchange student and brilliant musician Cal. Does she want the bad boy or the prodigy? Should she side with her parents or protect her brother? How can she know when to hold on and when—and how—to let go?

ALIENATED by Melissa Landers will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Disney-Hyperion, the print edition is 352 pages.

ALIENATED is the first book in a new series by Author Melissa Landers. The second book in the series, INVADED, is slated for release on February 3, 2015.

Dots_Divider

I had the chance to read ALIENATED early and I loved it and can’t wait for my Kindle copy to be added to my collection this week. Though if I spy this book in the bookstore this weekend and its cover is every bit as gorgeous as I think it will be, I may just have to add a print copy to the collection, too.

With the way things ended I’m just dying for the sequel and I can’t believe that’s 365 days from now. It’s too far away!

I loved meeting Cara and Aelyx. I loved the idea of the L’eihr exchange program. I loved discovering all the secrets… or most of them… and I am just so curious about where this story is headed in the next book. Things got pretty crazy there. Like when Cara found… oh, no that’s spoiler-y, not going to continue on with that thought.

If I haven’t lost the ability to wrangle my thoughts, I hope to be able to post a review next week. Of course I don’t plan on revealing any spoiler-y things there, either. But maybe I’ll tease just one or two of my favorite bits.

If that doesn’t happen, maybe when I add this to the pile again for a re-read – because yeah, I totally want to re-read this – I’ll be able to share just why I adore Aelyx, even though….

SOMETHING REAL by Heather Demetrios will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), the print edition is 416 pages.

Dots_Divider

I am super excited for the release of SOMETHING REAL this week. I got the chance to read it early and I love, love, LOVED it. But it was a printed ARC and I can’t wait for the finished copy to download to my Kindle.

I am not surprised to hear that it won an award. This story was refreshingly original and such a surprise as it was quite a bit different from what I expected. But it was amazing and heartbreaking and heartwarming and so completely addictive. But not in the way that reality TV is addictive.

There is nothing mindless and empty about this book. The characters are sympathetic and likable and amazing and selfish and cruel and greedy and utterly despicable. But I loved getting to meet them all.

As I have read it recently I won’t be adding it to the pile in the next few, but this is one of those books that’s definitely re-readable and totally collection-worthy.

IGNITE ME by Tahereh Mafi will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 416 pages.

IGNITE ME is the third and final full-length book in Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me trilogy.

Dots_Divider

I almost can’t believe that in just a few short hours the final book in the Shatter Me series will be downloading to my Kindle. I am so excited and nervous and anxious and scared and sad and totally terrified about what I might discover in IGNITE ME.

It was the book I chose for my Book Watch post the other week so I really am not going to take the time to ramble here. I don’t think I have the appropriate words at my disposal to talk about how [insert better world than excited here] I am.

But I’m equally as terrified about what’s going to happen. I’m just as sad that this will be the end. I do not want to say goodbye to Warner or Adam or Kenji or Juliette or… anyone. I don’t want to say goodbye to this world, the beautiful writing. I don’t want it all to end.

But I will be reading it the second I get it. I will not let my fear keep me from reaching the end. Even if it means that I will be fighting back tears for the entire read.

Description…

The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, called “a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love”

Juliette now knows she may be the only one who can stop the Reestablishment. But to take them down, she’ll need the help of the one person she never thought she could trust: Warner. And as they work together, Juliette will discover that everything she thought she knew-about Warner, her abilities, and even Adam-was wrong.

In Shatter Me, Tahereh Mafi created a captivating and original story that combined the best of dystopian and paranormal and was praised by Publishers Weekly as “a gripping read from an author who’s not afraid to take risks.” The sequel, Unravel Me, blew readers away with heart-racing twists and turns, and New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia said it was “dangerous, sexy, romantic, and intense.” Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and climactic end.

MISTWALKER by Saundra Mitchell will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HMH Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 320 pages.

Dots_Divider

I love Saundra Mitchell’s writing and pre-order every single book she releases, which includes MISTWALKER. Though until I created this post I hadn’t even read its description.

Though now that I have, I can’t wait for its release.

I am so very curious about this idea of the Grey Man who is really a young man trapped inside a lighthouse and forced to collect a thousand souls. I really hope that Willa doesn’t opt to trade places with him to help her family. But I am super curious as to what would happen if she did.

The description piqued my curiosity but has left me in the dark about what direction this story might take. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it on the pile later this month so I can find out.

Description…

When Willa Dixon’s brother dies on the family lobster boat, her father forbids Willa from stepping foot on the deck again. With her family suffering, she’ll do anything to help out—even visiting the Grey Man.

Everyone in her small Maine town knows of this legendary spirit who haunts the lighthouse, controlling the fog and the fate of any vessel within his reach. But what Willa finds in the lighthouse isn’t a spirit at all, but a young man trapped inside until he collects one thousand souls.

Desperate to escape his cursed existence, Grey tries to seduce Willa to take his place. With her life on land in shambles, will she sacrifice herself?

LANDRY PARK by Bethany Hagen will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Dial, the print edition is 384 pages.

LANDRY PARK is the first book in a new series of the same name by Author Bethany Hagen.

Dots_Divider

I have heard such amazing things about LANDRY PARK and I can’t wait for my pre-order copy to download. While I haven’t yet discovered Downton Abbey, I am a fan of THE SELECTION and am loving most things dystopia these days.

I can’t wait to meet Madeline Landry, find out whether she marries and runs the family estate as her father dictates or whether what she discovers and who she finds herself drawn to make her ditch her duty and instead choose her desire.

This sounds exactly like the type of story I want to read right now. And while I have a couple of books I’m in the midst of finishing, hopefully I’ll be able to sneak it onto the pile this weekend. If not, it will definitely be on the pile next week.

Description…

Downton Abbey meets The Selection in this dystopian tale of love and betrayal

In a fragmented future United States ruled by the lavish gentry, seventeen-year-old Madeline Landry dreams of going to the university. Unfortunately, gentry decorum and her domineering father won’t allow that. Madeline must marry, like a good Landry woman, and run the family estate. But her world is turned upside down when she discovers the devastating consequences her lifestyle is having on those less fortunate.

As Madeline begins to question everything she has ever learned, she finds herself increasingly drawn to handsome, beguiling David Dana. Soon, rumors of war and rebellion start to spread, and Madeline finds herself and David at the center of it all. Ultimately, she must make a choice between duty – her family and the estate she loves dearly – and desire.

WILD THINGS by Chloe Neill will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by New American Library, the print edition is 368 pages.

WILD THINGS is the ninth book in Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series. BLOOD GAMES, the tenth book in the series, is slated for release on August 5, 2014.

Dots_Divider

Of course I had WILD THINGS pre-ordered. If I could pre-order every single book that remains in the series I would do it right this minute. I love these characters and this series. So I am totally stoked that WILD THINGS will be living on my Kindle in just a few short hours.

I had hoped to finish reading this story on Saturday, but I didn’t get the chance to finish it, though it is a super quick read. I may have gotten distracted by a few real-life things, but I should be finished before my Kindle copy is added to my collection.

As expected it’s an exciting addition to the series. Merit is one of my favorite non-YA heroines and I love getting caught up in her crazy life for a few hours twice a year. While I know that some day this series will end, it won’t be ending anytime soon. And I’m already excited for BLOOD GAMES’ release this summer. Though I am not going to peek at the description until I’m done reading WILD THINGS.

Description…

Since Merit was turned into a vampire, and the protector of Chicago’s Cadogan House, it’s been a wild ride. She and Master vampire Ethan Sullivan have helped make Cadogan’s vampires the strongest in North America, and forged ties with paranormal folk of all breeds and creeds, living or dead…or both.

But now those alliances are about to be tested. A strange and twisted magic has ripped through the North American Central Pack, and Merit’s closest friends are caught in the crosshairs. Gabriel Keene, the Pack Apex, looks to Merit and Ethan for help. But who—or what—could possibly be powerful enough to out-magic a shifter?

Merit is about to go toe to toe, and cold steel to cold heart, to find out.

Dots_Divider

I am thrilled that BE WITH ME is releasing this week and that it will be added to my collection some time tonight. While I have the eARC for review and devoured it in one sitting late Friday, I definitely wanted the finished copy for my collection.

It hasn’t been very long since I met these characters in the first book (and its companion) in the series, but I was thrilled to get the chance to get to know them better. And I absolutely adore them both.

And as I will be writing a review for this book this week and rambling probably a bit too much about just why this book is awesome for my post on Friday, I will just say that I never expected to love this book and characters as much as I loved WAIT FOR YOU and its characters, but I did. J. Lynn has this wonderful way of creating stories and characters that are just so easy to love.

Now I just have to survive the long, long wait for September’s release of STAY WITH ME.

It’s another crazy week for YA releases. Heck, it’s a crazy release week all around. I have eight YA books, two non-YA books and one novella (STOLEN) pre-ordered. There’s also the possibility that I have VENGEANCE on my list of pre-orders. If not, I plan on clicking to buy on its release date. That’s a lot to read.

I’m just glad I read a couple of these books and am currently reading a few. But that still leaves way too many TBR, though I will be reading IGNITE ME as soon as it downloads.

I am so glad that next week is much, much quieter. I have so much to do IRL between now and mid-February that I just know I’m going to fall behind on my reads. I am still hoping for “someday” to arrive so that I can finally get the chance to tackle a number of those books on my Kindle that are getting smooshed further and further down into the pile. I recognize, however, that “someday” isn’t going to be any day soon.

Anyway… I wish you a happy bookish acquiring week this week, and am sending out happy book birthday wishes to all the lovely books above. Here’s to another great week of book collecting and reading!

blue_green_line2

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

My Reading Pile #147

MRPnew

I didn’t receive any physical books in the mail this week. As it was, I barely received any mail at all. It was a super quiet week at the mailbox. Not that I was entirely surprised.

But I decided to make it a little less quiet by electing to grab a copy of one book on my must read list from Edelweiss, so it wasn’t an entirely book-free week.

The Murder Complex

[Credit for mailbox sharing goes to The Story Siren]

I received an eARC of THE MURDER COMPLEX (The Murder Complex #1) by Lindsay Cummings courtesy of the publisher, Greenwillow Books, and Edelweiss.

As I’d been hiding from Edelweiss for much of the past couple of months I didn’t see it until Friday when I just had to grab a copy. It was one of the debut books I’d chosen for my top ten books of 2014 so I couldn’t resist.

And as much as I’d love to add it to the pile this week, I seem to have at least six books I need to read for review this month. And while one of the books I’m choosing to add to the pile is not a required read, it’s imperative for me to find out how the series ends. Especially after the way things ended in book two, which I read last week.

Anyway…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.

(January 5, 2014 – January 11, 2014)

Graduation Day

add

First up on the pile is GRADUATION DAY by Joelle Charbonneau. I received a copy to read thanks to Jaime of Two Chicks on Books, and after having just finished INDEPENDENT STUDY there was no way I could not read this third and final book in the series.

Especially after that ending, which made me scream more than a little. I could not believe that thing that happened right there at the end.

So now I have to find out why Jaime adores a certain character so much. I have to find out whether the rebels will be able to destroy The Testing. I have to find out who can be trusted and who cannot. And I have to know right now.

Even though it is a print book and my book light stopped working. Even though it is a series-ending book and I typically hate saying goodbye. Even though I love, love, love this series and finishing now will mean a super long wait until this author pens another book.

Given how much I love this series and want answers, it’s entirely possible I’ll have started and finished this book by the time this scheduled post goes live. But it will not be a left behind book next week. That I can promise.

The Description…

In book three of the Testing series, the United Commonwealth wants to eliminate the rebel alliance fighting to destroy The Testing for good. Cia is ready to lead the charge, but will her lethal classmates follow her into battle?

She wants to put an end to the Testing
In a scarred and brutal future, The United Commonwealth teeters on the brink of all-out civil war. The rebel resistance plots against a government that rules with cruelty and cunning. Gifted student and Testing survivor, Cia Vale, vows to fight.

But she can’t do it alone.
This is the chance to lead that Cia has trained for – but who will follow? Plunging through layers of danger and deception, Cia must risk the lives of those she loves–and gamble on the loyalty of her lethal classmates.

Who can Cia trust?
The stakes are higher than ever-lives of promise cut short or fulfilled; a future ruled by fear or hope–in the electrifying conclusion to Joelle Charbonneau’s epic Testing trilogy. Ready or not…it’s Graduation Day.

The Final Test is the Deadliest!

Alienated

add

Next up on the pile is ALIENATED by Melissa Landers. I received an eARC for review thanks to the publisher, Disney Hyperion, and NetGalley. And I’ve been dying to read it ever since it landed on my Kindle.

While it is not releasing until early next month – February 4th – I just have to add it to the pile right now. I can’t wait to meet Cara Sweeney and find out more about L’eihr. And I really can’t wait to meet Aelyx.

Science fiction, romance and a mystery sound like a fantastic combination and I can’t wait to see if the story is as amazing as its cover. As it is the first book in a new series I am also curious to see if there will be a cliffhanger ending, if there will be many questions left unanswered, and if I’ll be every bit as excited for the sequel as I am to read this first installment.

While I may not get to read this until closer to the end of the week – as I have to catch up on one of last week’s reads – I will also definitely be reading ALIENATED this week. I’ve waited long enough. I can’t possibly wait another week.

The Description…

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara’s classmates get swept up by anti-L’eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn’t safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara’s locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she’s fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

Wishful Thinking Reads

My wishful thinking read is UNINVITED by Sophie Jordan. I received an eARC for review back in July and I have been desperate to move this up on the pile so that I could devour it. The author made this book an automatic must read for me. The description made it a dying to read book. And I’ve been dying ever since I got my copy.

While I plan on reading it before it releases later this month, I wish I could read it right now. But as I want to write a review for it and I’m already behind on reviews, this week it will have to remain a wishful thinking read. Hopefully that wish will turn into reality next week.

line3

Those Left Behind

I read THE PROMISE OF AMAZING last week and it was a super quick, thoroughly entertaining and – yes – amazing read. I had hoped to immediately write a review but a crowded blog and life stuffs got in the way. So I’m hoping that I’ll get the chance to write it this weekend and find some space on the blog next week to post it.

I am a little behind, as I didn’t yet get the chance to read DEFY. Though I will be reading it this weekend and possibly finished before I have to start on this week’s pile on Sunday. I just got caught up with a couple off-pile/back-on-the-pile reads, AFTERPARTY, which I seriously loved – oh my gosh the writing is ahh-mazing – and INDEPENDENT STUDY – which absolutely killed me.

I am, of course, already behind on a few reviews – EVERTRUE, AFTERPARTY, THE PROMISE OF AMAZING, INDEPENDENT STUDY – but at least I managed to post my Quickie Review of FRACTURE ME. I just don’t want to get too far behind on reviews and have this year be a repeat of last year with books read but not reviewed.

All of that remains to be determined. But if I can wrangle my thoughts for at least three of the four titles I’m behind on, hopefully I won’t look as slacker-y come year end.

line3

NetGalley Pile Adds & Finds

I only popped onto NetGalley one day this week and discovered Victoria Scott’s FIRE & FLOOD, which I immediately requested, but am not sure I’ll receive for review. I can only imagine that there will be a ton of requests flooding in for that title, so we shall see.

But there are some other awesome books available for request, and while I haven’t requested any of them – yet – there are at least a couple that have made my mouse hover over that request button while creating this post.

Anyway… here are the NetGalley titles I discovered this week:

FIRE & FLOOD by Victoria Scott (Scholastic, Feb 25 2014)

THE HUNT (Project Paper Doll #2) by Stacey Kade (Disney Book Group, Apr 22 2014)

HALF BAD by Sally Green (Penguin Young Readers Group, Mar 4 2014)

STORMBRINGER (Weather Witch #2) by Shannon Delany (St. Martin’s Press, Jan 14 2014)

BETTER OFF FRIENDS by Elizabeth Eulberg (Scholastic, Feb 25 2014)

CURED (Stung #2) by Bethany Wiggans (Bloomsbury USA Children’s Books, Mar 4 2014)

THE TRUTH AGAINST THE WORLD by Sarah Jamila Stevenson (Flux, June 8 2014)

THE HIT by Melvin Burgess (Scholastic, Feb 25 2014)

THREATENED by Eliot Schrefer (Scholastic, Feb 25 2014)

THE SHADOW THRONE (The Ascendance Trilogy #3) by Jennifer A. Nielsen (Scholastic, Feb 25 2014)

line3

Aside from reviews I think I’m back on track with posting. I have a bunch of tours coming up in the next few weeks, but I should be on time with all three of my weekly featured posts. Though with January 7th being a ginormous release week, we’ll see.

I am completely wiped after the holidays, which leaves me with zero ability to formulate thoughts for a review. Hopefully with a quiet weekend ahead of me this weekend, my brain will be able to function as I need it to.

And while I had a burst of writing creativity a few days back, it completely flew out the window as the week passed. I am now looking at the 2,000 words I wrote wondering what was I thinking and where the heck was I going with that. *SIGH*

But reading has been a lot of fun, even though my book light is completely DOA leaving me with no way to read print books at night in bed. But as I have a few eBook titles that I am reading right now – or plan on reading in the next few days – and only one print book, hopefully I’ll be able to find a new light before my next printed ARC gets added to the pile.

Anyway… I hope you have some interesting reads planned for this week, I hope that you haven’t fallen too far behind already this year, and I hope that you received a few new titles in your mailbox this past week. And if you did, I’d love to know.

As ever, happy reading!
