I Have a COMPULSION for Magic Blog Tour: Kami Garcia and Kimberly Derting Guest Post + Giveaway

Compulsion_MMBT

I am so excited to be participating in the I Have a COMPULSION for Magic Blog Tour hosted by Mundie Moms Blog Tours.

I cannot wait for COMPULSION to be released later this month so that I can meet Barrie and Eight. And although Andye of Reading Teen claims Eight for herself, I’m not giving up any claim. Not without having had the chance to meet him.

This tour kicked off yesterday and continues all the way up to COMPULSION’s release on the 28th. So be sure to follow along – the schedule can be found at the bottom of this post or on its very own tour page, which you can find by clicking the banner (or the link) above.

This tour is filled with all sorts of awesome excerpts from COMPULSION, guest posts from a number of amazing authors, and a super fab giveaway – none of which you’ll want to miss.

Especially my post today which follows below…

The Guest Author Feature

We’re kicking off something special on the Compulsion for Magic tour with a guest-author feature! On different stops of the tour, we’re going to ask authors to weigh in and talk about what kinds of Compulsion-style magical gifts they (or their characters) would like to have and definitely wouldn’t want to have.

Simon Pulse, the publisher of Compulsion has suggested the book is a little like Beautiful Creatures meets The Body Finder, by which they mean it’s like an atmospheric Southern Gothic romance with paranormal elements meets a mystery solved by a main character with an ability to find lost things.

Since Kimberly Derting, author of The Body Finder series, The Pledge novels, and The Taking, had nice things to say after reading Compulsion, we asked her to share some thoughts.

But first . . .

We want to hear from you!

For a chance to win the HUGE tour mega prize of books and the $100 gift card, tell us about the magical gift you’d like to have, but remember—as it is on Compulsion’s Watson Island—magic is often a curse as well as a gift. Don’t forget to think about what it would really be like!

Want to get a head start on your answer?

We also asked Kami Garcia, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Beautiful Creatures novels, Unbreakable and Unmarked in The Legion series, and the new Dangerous Creatures series, what kind of magical gift she would like to have.

Here’s Kami’s answer…

“I would love to be able to bend metal like Magneto. Imagine the possibilities… Secretly, I just want to be Magneto.”

And here’s what Kimberly Derting had to say…

If you could have any “everyday” magical gift, like finding lost things or knowing what people want, what gift would you want and why?

I like the finding-lost-things one, mostly since I come from a family of people who lose everything! But I think if I could have any power, other than a Midas turn-everything-into-chocolate touch, it would definitely be to know where my kids are at all times. And I’m not talking about the “Where’s my iPhone” stalker-mom magical app (although I do love that!). Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to know what they’re always doing, since two of my kids are 21 and 27, but I love the idea of looking into my crystal ball and knowing that they’re safe.

On the other hand, maybe the Midas-chocolate thing after all! ☺

What everyday magic would your characters wish they had and why?

I can sort of imagine Violet (from THE BODY FINDER) wishing she could turn off the whole finding dead bodies thing, and instead picking something fun like walking through walls, flying, or being invisible. All of those are way less disturbing than being drawn to the dead.

Eight, Barrie’s love interest in Compulsion, has inherited his family’s gift of knowing what people want and feeling compelled to give it to them. What’s one gift you’re glad you don’t have? Or your characters would be glad they didn’t have?

I think at one point or another everyone sort of wishes they could read minds. That is, until you really think about all the weird/creepy/probably even insulting things you’d be overhearing inside other people’s heads. I’m not sure I want to know every teeny-tiny thing my husband, my kids, or even my neighbors think about me. Or anyone else for that matter.

Barrie is tied to her family’s plantation, Watson’s Landing, in a magical way, and the whole landscape becomes magical for her. What’s the one place in your book that you wish you could bring to life?

My place would be the ice castle in THE ESSENCE, book #2 in The Pledge trilogy. It’s this old fortress built into an island covered almost entirely in ice and snow, and for some reason (which is strange, since I’m always freezing!), it’s the one place in my novels I’d like to see in real life. (I guess I need to write some books that are set in the Bahamas!)

If you were going to a Halloween party and you had to dress as a character from a Southern Gothic or a Gothic romance, what would your costume look like?

I would go full Scarlett O’Hara, but only because I’ve always wanted to wear a hoop skirt 😉

* * *

You have to love Kimberley! A Midas touch for chocolate? Count me in!

Now your turn!  Tell us about your magic.

And/Or . . .

Bonus option

If you’ve already done that elsewhere on the tour or just want to do something different for extra entry points, show us your magical or Southern gothic costume! How would you do Scarlet O’Hara? Or would you do Lily from The Raven Boys? Violet from Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea? Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca? Or how would you show an “everyday magic” as a Halloween costume?

Post a comment with the URL to your photo and we’ll share it. Use tag #CompulsionMagic.

Description

Three plantations. Two wishes. One ancient curse.

All her life, Barrie Watson has been a virtual prisoner in the house where she lives with her shut-in mother. When her mother dies, Barrie promises to put some mileage on her stiletto heels. But she finds a new kind of prison at her aunt’s South Carolina plantation instead–a prison guarded by an ancient spirit who long ago cursed one of the three founding families of Watson Island and gave the others magical gifts that became compulsions.

Stuck with the ghosts of a generations-old feud and hunted by forces she cannot see, Barrie must find a way to break free of the family legacy. With the help of sun-kissed Eight Beaufort, who knows what Barrie wants before she knows herself, the last Watson heir starts to unravel her family’s twisted secrets. What she finds is dangerous: a love she never expected, a river that turns to fire at midnight, a gorgeous cousin who isn’t what she seems, and very real enemies who want both Eight and Barrie dead.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #177

BW-RTWnew

Below are the (mostly) YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of May 20th-May 26th that I have pre-ordered.

While Your Away HC

Add_to_GR

WHILE YOU’RE AWAY by Jessa Holbrook will be released in the U.S. on May 20, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Razorbill, the print edition is 288 pages.

WHILE YOU’RE AWAY was also previously published in six parts in eBook and audio formats.

I am so excited that WHILE YOU’RE AWAY is releasing this week. I read this story when it was released in parts and I absolutely loved it. It was a fantastic read, though it was torturous having to wait for each new installment.

I’ve wanted to read it all over again, all at once, to see if it reads any differently. So I can’t wait until my print edition arrives.

I loved meeting Will and Sarah, though I wasn’t sure if I would be biased against them for being cheaters. But I did adore them and root for them and was anxious when things got in the way.

As I did review all six parts, and I don’t want to risk spoiling things by rambling too much, I’ll just say that I can’t wait to re-read this, the writing is gorgeous and the story is all twisty-turny and angsty and romantic. And it’s definitely the book I’m most excited for this week.

Description…

Once a cheater, always a cheater?

From the moment Will and Sarah first set eyes upon each other, they know that what they have is special.

There’s just one little problem . . . each of them already has a significant other.

After flirting with danger, it becomes clear their passion is too strong to be denied. But even if they make their relationship official, there are plenty of challenges in store. Will leaves for college at the end of the summer, while Sarah faces her senior year of high school in their small suburban town. Long-distance relationships always come with their fair share of troubles—mismatched schedules, jealousy, and temptation are only the beginning.

Can cheaters ever change?

WHILE YOU’RE AWAY is a steamy story about a love triangle, a long-distance relationship, and learning the true meaning of commitment.

The Art of Lainey

Add_to_GR
THE ART OF LAINEY by Paula Stokes will be released in the U.S. on May 20, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 384 pages.

I received an early copy of THE ART OF LAINEY and had every intention of reading it pre-release – and I still might get the chance to tonight – but I’m super excited that my finished eBook copy will be downloading on Monday Midnight.

I love the idea that instead of wallowing in heartbreak, Lainey and her friend plan to win her ex back by using the Sun Tzu book to formulate a game plan. I’m curious to see whether after all their planning she wants him back or whether she chooses to be with Micah… or whether Micah wants to be with her if he wasn’t aware he was a pawn.

This book sounds sweet and fun with the potential for heartbreak, so I can’t wait to read it. And if all goes as planned I will definitely sneak it on the pile tonight.

Description…

Soccer star Lainey Mitchell is gearing up to spend an epic summer with her amazing boyfriend, Jason, when he suddenly breaks up with her—no reasons, no warning, and in public no less! Lainey is more than crushed, but with help from her friend Bianca, she resolves to do whatever it takes to get Jason back.

And that’s when the girls stumble across a copy of The Art of War. With just one glance, they’re sure they can use the book to lure Jason back into Lainey’s arms. So Lainey channels her inner warlord, recruiting spies to gather intel and persuading her coworker Micah to pose as her new boyfriend to make Jason jealous. After a few “dates”, it looks like her plan is going to work! But now her relationship with Micah is starting to feel like more than just a game.

What’s a girl to do when what she wants is totally different from what she needs? How do you figure out the person you’re meant to be with if you’re still figuring out the person you’re meant to be?

Dangerous Creatures
Add_to_GR
DANGEROUS CREATURES by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl will be released in the U.S. on May 20, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in all formats, plus a signed edition, at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 384 pages.

DANGEROUS CREATURES is the first full-length book in the authors’ series of the same name. A prequel novella, DANGEROUS DREAM, released on December 17, 2013.

I am a huge fan of the authors and I loved the books that I did read in their Beautiful Creatures series. So of course I had to pre-order DANGEROUS CREATURES.

I can’t wait to read Ridley’s series and see what happens with her and Link. And I can’t wait to find out just what price is on his head.

I don’t know whether there are spoilers for the other series, so I’m wary of reading this book until I finish that one. I thought the writing was amazing in Beautiful Creatures and I just know it will be the same in this series. Which makes me want to read this more than ever. So it may just be worth the risk. We shall see….

If not, I’ll plan on reading this after reading the final book in that first series and reading the eBook novella, DANGEROUS DREAM. Now that I won’t technically have to say goodbye to Ethan and Lena, I might just be able to do so this summer.

Description…

A new series returns to the world of Beautiful Creatures. Some loves are cursed…others are dangerous.

Ridley Duchannes will be the first to tell you that she’s a bad girl. She’s Dark. She’s a Siren. You can never trust her, or even yourself when she’s around. Lucky for her, Wesley “Link” Lincoln can never seem to remember that; quarter Incubus or not, his heart is Mortal when it comes to Ridley. When Link heads to New York City to start a music career, Ridley goes along for the ride-and she has her own reasons. As if leaving small-town Gatlin for the big city, trying to form a band, and surviving life with a partially reformed Siren isn’t hard enough already, Link soon learns he has a price on his head that no Caster or Mortal can ever pay.

Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the #1 New York Times bestselling coauthors of Beautiful Creatures, are back and casting another magical spell. Their signature mixture of mystery, suspense, and romance, along with a dash of fun and danger, will pull fans in and leave them begging for more.

There are a ton of amazing-sounding books releasing this week. And while I only have the three books pre-ordered, I just know I’ll be purchasing END TIMES, THUNDERSTRUCK, REBORN, BIGGEST FLIRTS, THE RULES FOR BREAKING, and NOW & FOREVER.

I have been trying not to “click to buy” too many books pre-release, in order to be absolutely sure I wanted to add them to my collection. But I’m not so sure that waiting for release date to buy them has worked to reduce the number of books I order each week. Oh well.

I’ve also tried to spend a little less time online, which means less time stalking Amazon and which is why I hadn’t had the last two weeks’ posts prepared. After spending three hours researching the books releasing and gathering the images, I ran out of time to actually put the posts together. Oops. But hopefully I’ll be back on track from now on.

I’m hoping that I didn’t miss any books releasing this week, though I think I might have. Amazon’s search function was a little hinky so there might be one or two titles that I missed. But I suppose I’ll find out when either they download to my Kindle on Tuesday or when I see the book birthday wishes go by on Twitter.

I hope one of your favorite authors has a book releasing this week, or one of your most anticipated reads is releasing, and that you get to add it to your collection. And as ever…

Happy release week to some amazing books and I hope you have a very happy reading week ahead!

DotsDiv2

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Published by HarperCollins, the novella is 72 pages.

Dots_Divider

I don’t normally include novellas in my Releasing This Week posts but I just had to talk about FRACTURE ME which I’m totally stoked released today. I have loved everything about this series from the moment I first read the first few pages of the very first book in the series and I am so excited to have yet another story about this world and its characters.

As I am terrified of just how this series will end and how badly my heart will be broken I am so glad to have a companion novella which just might not do as much damage. Though, having read the description, I have a feeling it might….

While I haven’t been able to pick up a book for the past couple of weeks due to some real life stuffs going on, I think FRACTURE ME will be just the book to be able to hold my focus and allow me to escape for a little while. And I can’t wait to dive in.

Description…

In this electrifying sixty-page companion novella to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, discover the fate of the Omega Point rebels as they go up against The Reestablishment. Set during and soon after the final moments of Unravel MeFracture Me is told from Adam’s perspective.

As Omega Point prepares to launch an all-out assault on The Reestablishment soldiers stationed in Sector 45, Adam’s focus couldn’t be further from the upcoming battle. He’s reeling from his breakup with Juliette, scared for his best friend’s life, and as concerned as ever for his brother James’s safety. And just as Adam begins to wonder if this life is really for him, the alarms sound. It’s time for war.

On the battlefield, it seems like the odds are in their favor—but taking down Warner, Adam’s newly discovered half brother, won’t be that easy. The Reestablishment can’t tolerate a rebellion, and they’ll do anything to crush the resistance . . . including killing everyone Adam has ever cared about.

Fracture Me sets the stage for Ignite Me, the explosive finale in Tahereh Mafi’s epic dystopian series. It’s a novella not to be missed by fans who crave action-packed stories with tantalizing romance like Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Legend by Marie Lu.

When I first read the description for ASHES TO ASHES I knew I had to add it to my list of pre-orders and I can’t wait for it to finally be released on Monday. The description promises tragedy, romance, a story that is “emotionally rich” and an ending that is breathtaking – how could I not want to have this book in my collection?

I love the idea that in this story Callie’s life doesn’t end with her death and that her spirit travels to an ethereal plane populated by ghosts. I love that she is able to bring peace to those she left behind. And I love, too, that she has to fight to save those she loves from the angry spirits who threaten their existence.

I can’t wait to meet Callie and find out whether her story is one that has a happy eternally ever after or is one that ends in heartbreak. But I suppose that even if I were to read ASHES TO ASHES right now, I won’t know for certain. I’m pretty sure I won’t get that answer until next December with the release of DUST TO DUST.

And as much as I probably should wait until closer to that book’s release, I don’t think I’ll be able to. Though I will try and wait until January. Especially as I just know there will be tears.

Description…

If I Stay meets the movie Ghost in this first book in a teen duology about a teenage-girl-turned-ghost who must cling to the echoes of her former life to save the people she left behind.

Ashes to Ashes is author Melissa Walker’s sweeping, romantic, and emotionally rich story about the things that torment and tempt us, even from the Great Beyond. This book is perfect for fans of Die for Me and Imaginary Girls, and its breathtaking ending will leave readers anxiously awaiting the series conclusion, Dust to Dust.

When Callie’s life is cut short by a tragic accident, she expects to find nothingness, or maybe some version of heaven.

Instead, her spirit travels to the Prism, an ethereal plane populated by the ghosts she thought were fictional. Here she meets a striking and mysterious ghost named Thatcher, who is meant to guide her as she learns to haunt and bring peace to the loved ones she left behind.

However, Callie uncovers a dark secret about the spirit world: The angry souls who always populate ghost stories are real, dangerous, and willing to do whatever it takes to stay on Earth, threatening the existence of everyone she ever cared about.

As she fights to save them, Callie will learn that while it may no longer beat, her heart can still love-and break.

ECHO IN TIME by C.J. Hill will be released in the U.S. on December 23, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, the print edition is 400 pages.

ECHO IN TIME is the second book in Author C.J. Hill’s Erasing Time series.

Dots_Divider

I can’t wait to get the chance to read ECHO IN TIME when it releases on Monday. I love this series and I am anxiously awaiting the chance to continue it with this second book, which I’ve had pre-ordered for ages.

As I already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post the other week and I will be on the book’s tour in a couple weeks, I won’t go on and on and on. But I am seriously excited to find out what happens on Taylor and Joseph’s mission and to see just what consequences their actions have.

The description calls this sequel “action-packed and romantic” and I am very much looking forward to escaping into this world and finding out if that’s true. If real life isn’t too crazy next week I hope to be able to discover it then.

Description…

Echo in Time delivers on “the possibility of an equally thrilling sequel” (Kirkus Reviews) to Erasing Time.

After being pulled 400 years into the future, twins Taylor and Sheridan have found some refuge from the government of Traventon, which used the dangerous Time Strainer to yank the girls from the past. Yet the threat of the dangerous technology still looms. Taylor and an ally, Joseph, are selected to go on a mission to destroy the time machine and weapon. But their actions before they do may have major consequences for the future and the past.

Action-packed and romantic, this futuristic sequel to Erasing Time is perfect for fans of dystopian and sci-fi novels such as The Maze Runner by James Dashner, Across the Universe by Beth Revis, and Matched by Ally Condie.

I know I missed last week’s Book Watch: Releasing This Week post and I will very likely post and backdate it just so that I have a complete record on the blog of books that have released that I’ve pre-ordered. But I didn’t want to miss posting about this week’s releases, even if I am just a touch late in posting it.

While I’m still not reading, as I can’t seem to find an escape in books at the moment, I am desperately going to try and do so with FRACTURE ME this week. But we shall see. Life has given me a beating as of late, but I’m hoping that books will be able to once again be things that bring me joy.

For all of you who are able to find happiness in a good book or three, I hope there are some titles releasing this week that will do just that for you. And while there aren’t a ton of new releases this week, there are a few lovely eNovellas out this week that are definitely worth adding to your collection.

So I wish you all a happy book acquiring and reading week this week.

ENDLESS KNIGHT by Kresley Cole will be released in the U.S. on October 1, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 336 pages.

ENDLESS KNIGHT is the second book in Author Kresley Cole’s The Arcana Chronicles.

Dots_Divider

Oh. My. Gosh. Release date is just about here for ENDLESS KNIGHT and the official final version will be making its way to my Kindle on Monday Midnight. I received the print copy this past week but it’s way too pretty to even think about breaking the spine. So I will have to wait before I can take a peek to see just how different the final version is from the version I read for review.

And the wait is killing me. Absolutely killing me.

I cannot get this book out of my head. It’s there beckoning to me to devour it again, to experience what happened with Evie and Jack and Death just one more time. And I know it won’t leave me alone until I do.

ENDLESS KNIGHT was the book I chose for my Book Watch post. I may have gone on and on about just how amazing it was in that post. Just like I did in my review, which is all set to post on Monday. When I love a book as much as I love this book it is that much harder to wrangle those thoughts, so it’s taken me awhile to finally nail those down and write a semi-coherent review.

So as much as I want to keep talking about how excited I am for this book’s release, how its release means that I’m that much closer to the next book in the series’ release, how there will finally be a bunch of readers who will get the chance to read it so I can talk with them about it, I won’t go on and on. I’ll just end by saying that this is an amazing follow-up, it’s an absolute must-read, must re-read, and must re-read again after that.

I could not love this book any more than I do. And any words I have uttered about it or could utter don’t even come close to explaining just how amazing it is.

Description…

In the second book of the Arcana Chronicles Evie has now fully come into her powers as the tarot Empress. And Jackson was there to see it all. In the aftermath of killing Arthur, the tarot Alchemist, Evie realizes that a war is brewing between the other teens that, following the apocalypse, have been given powers and its kill or be killed.

Things get even more complicated when Evie meets Death, the mysterious, sexy Endless Knight. Somehow the Empress and Death share a romantic history – one that Evie can’t remember, but Death can’t forget. She is drawn to the Endless Knight, but is in love with Jack. Wild Cards

WILD CARDS by Simone Elkeles will be released in the U.S. on October 1, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Walker Childrens, the print edition is 352 pages.

WILD CARDS is the first book in author Simone Elkeles’ new series of the same name. A release date for the second, currently untitled, book in the series is not yet available.

Dots_Divider

I am so excited for the release of Simone Elkeles’ WILD CARDS this week. I had the chance to read it early and I loved it, but I am totally thrilled that my finished copy will be downloading to my Kindle on Tuesday.

I love the fact that the author creates characters and stories that are somewhat unconventional. I loved getting to meet Derek and Ashtyn and seeing their relationship develop. And I loved that Ashtyn was someone who was focused, driven and determined in spite of, or perhaps because of, the situation she had at home.

There were a couple moments in this story that brought tears to my eyes. There were some very real issues the characters had to overcome. And what the author put them through made it just so easy to connect with them even when their problems were ones that I couldn’t always relate to.

But I don’t want to reveal those issues and their outcomes in this post, or any post for that matter. I will just say that this was a quick read, an engaging story and one I hope to someday read again.

Description…

After getting kicked out of boarding school, bad boy Derek Fitzpatrick has no choice but to live with his ditzy stepmother while his military dad is deployed. Things quickly go from bad to worse when he finds out she plans to move them back to her childhood home in Illinois. Derek’s counting the days before he can be on his own, and the last thing he needs is to get involved with someone else’s family drama.

Ashtyn Parker knows one thing for certain–people you care about leave without a backward glance. A football scholarship would finally give her the chance to leave. So she pours everything into winning a state championship, until her boyfriend and star quarterback betrays them all by joining their rival team. Ashtyn needs a new game plan, but it requires trusting Derek—someone she barely knows, someone born to break the rules. Is she willing to put her heart on the line to try and win it all?

Blackout

BLACKOUT by Robison Wells will be released in the U.S. on October 1, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 432 pages.

BLACKOUT is the first full-length book in author Robison Wells’ new series of the same name. A prequel novella, GOING DARK, was published on August 6th.

Dots_Divider

I can’t believe that it’s just about October 1st and my Kindle copy of BLACKOUT will be downloading before I will have had the chance to get it on the pile. I grabbed an eARC and was so excited about the prospect of reading it early but clearly that didn’t happen since its release date is just a couple days away.

But I want to read it. Desperately. This book sounds amazing – terrorists, a virus that results in “impossible powers,” “deception” and “catastrophic danger.” I am totally intrigued. And I’m even more curious about how the book’s title factors into the story.

I’m tempted to at least read the prequel novella this week to find out what causes things to go dark. But I just have to find out how the lives of two trained terrorists and two high school students become intertwined and whether an explosion is triggered that “ends it all.”

And I seriously need to read this book in the next couple of weeks.

Description…

Laura and Alec are trained terrorists.

Jack and Aubrey are high school students.

There was no reason for them to ever meet.

But now, a mysterious virus is spreading throughout America, infecting teenagers with impossible powers. And these four are about to find their lives intertwined in a complex web of deception, loyalty, and catastrophic danger—where one wrong choice could trigger an explosion that ends it all.

How to Love

addtogoodreads

HOW TO LOVE by Katie Cotugno will be released in the U.S. on October 1, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 400 pages.

Dots_Divider

I have heard HOW TO LOVE is amazing and I’m so excited it is releasing this week and that I’ll have my electronic copy in hand on Tuesday. It sounds like the perfect type of love story for me to read – complicated, messy and very possibly a little (or a lot) heartbreaking.

I am just so curious as to why Sawyer ends up falling for Reena the first time when he hadn’t noticed her for so long. I’m also super curious as to why he just suddenly left her behind and why he decided to come back.

And, of course, I’m interested in finding out whether she forgives him and lets herself fall back in love with him after he abandoned her the way that he did.

The description promises a story that is “breathtaking” and I cannot to wait to find out if that’s true.

Description…

Before: Reena Montero has loved Sawyer LeGrande for as long as she can remember: as natural as breathing, as endless as time. But he’s never seemed to notice that Reena even exists…until one day, impossibly, he does. Reena and Sawyer fall in messy, complicated love. But then Sawyer disappears from their humid Florida town without a word, leaving a devastated—and pregnant—Reena behind.

After: Almost three years have passed, and there’s a new love in Reena’s life: her daughter, Hannah. Reena’s gotten used to being without Sawyer, and she’s finally getting the hang of this strange, unexpected life. But just as swiftly and suddenly as he disappeared, Sawyer turns up again. Reena doesn’t want anything to do with him, though she’d be lying if she said Sawyer’s being back wasn’t stirring something in her. After everything that’s happened, can Reena really let herself love Sawyer LeGrande again?

In this breathtaking debut, Katie Cotugno weaves together the story of one couple falling in love—twice.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 272 pages.

THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE DAMNED is a spin-off of author Jessica Verday’s The Hollow series.

Dots_Divider

When I first read the description for THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE DAMNED I knew that I just had to pre-order a copy for my collection. I never expected to be approved for an eARC and while I was approved, I always planned on keeping my pre-order for the finished copy. So I can’t wait for it to download on Monday Midnight.

I have not yet had the chance to meet Cyn and Avian. But I just know that I’m going to love reading their story. And I know that I’m going to love Cyn based upon that line in the description that mentions she casts spells on men for the purpose of stealing their cars.

I can’t wait to go back to Sleepy Hollow to see if they’ll be able to vanquish the source of Cyn’s power. And I can’t wait to find out how she’ll change if she does survive.

While I haven’t had the chance to read this companion novel yet I definitely plan on reading it some time in October. It’s the perfect month to read a book that takes place in the Hollow.

Description…

Cyn’s blackouts have deadly consequences in this sexy, suspenseful spinoff to the New York Times bestselling Hollow series.

Cyn and Avian are far from a perfect match. She’s a witch who casts spells on men so she can steal their cars. He spends his time being judge, jury, and executioner to the truly evil in the supernatural realm.

When the blackouts Cyn’s been having ever since her time in Sleepy Hollow start escalating, she finds herself unable to remember where she’s been or what she’s been doing. Frightened, she seeks guidance at a local church, and it’s there she meets Avian.

The unlikely pair soon discovers that her blackouts are a side effect of what she truly is—an Echo—a conduit for souls of the dead. The only way to prevent Cyn from losing complete control is to return to Sleepy Hollow and vanquish the source of her power—but she may not survive the process. And if she does? She won’t ever be the same…

Perfect Ruin

PERFECT RUIN by Lauren DeStefano will be released in the U.S. on October 1, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 368 pages.

PERFECT RUIN is the first book in author Lauren DeStefano’s new series The Internment Chronicles. An eNovella is expected on April 8, 2014 and the second full-length book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release on February 1, 2015. A third book in the series is also planned.

Dots_Divider

I am not entirely sure how I missed all the buzz about PERFECT RUIN, but I’m so glad I did not miss adding this book to my pre-orders in August. I think the author is awesome and I cannot wait to read this first book in her new series.

I have not read a single review or checked out this book’s rating on Goodreads. But I read the description and it sounds all sorts of amazing and I seriously cannot wait for my copy to download so I can take a peek… or perhaps dive right in.

I love that this story is set on a floating island in the clouds. I love that for some reason getting close to the edge causes madness. I love that there are secrets that will hopefully be revealed in this first book in the series, though I have a feeling there will be quite a few secrets left for future books.

I desperately want to know what Morgan finds out when she investigates the murder in Internment. And I really, really, really want to know just who she’ll lose.

If I do have any time this week I am going to make it a priority to sneak PERFECT RUIN in. Even the title is intriguing. And I know I will not be able to resist the lure of this book for very long.

Description…

On Internment, the floating island in the clouds where 16-year-old Morgan Stockhour lives, getting too close to the edge can lead to madness. Even though Morgan’s older brother, Lex, was a Jumper, Morgan vows never to end up like him. She tries her best not to mind that her life is orderly and boring, and if she ever wonders about the ground, and why it is forbidden, she takes solace in best friend Pen and her betrothed, Basil.

Then a murder, the first in a generation, rocks the city. With whispers swirling and fear on the wind, Morgan can no longer stop herself from investigating, especially when she meets Judas. He is the boy being blamed for the murder — betrothed to the victim — but Morgan is convinced of his innocence. Secrets lay at the heart of Internment, but nothing can prepare Morgan for what she will find — or who she will lose.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 320 pages.

UNBREAKABLE is the first book in Kami Garcia’s new Legion series. The second book in the series, UNBOUND, is slated for release in 2014.

Dots_Divider

I have long been a fan of author Kami Garcia so when I discovered that she had a book coming out written by her alone I just had to pre-order it. And UNBREAKABLE sounds wicked cool – and not because the description compared it to Supernatural… well, not just because of the comparison.

But I love stories that have secret societies. I love stories with vengeful demons, even ones where the demon is bad versus bad boy. And I always love stories that have a bit of a mystery.

The description promises all sorts of things I love – suspense, paranormal romance and chilling urban fantasy – and I cannot wait to read it. Though I’ll at least have to wait until my Kindle copy downloads on Tuesday before I do.

Description…

Supernatural meets The Da Vinci Code in this action-packed paranormal thriller, the first book in a new series from New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia.

I never believed in ghosts. Until one tried to kill me.

When Kennedy Waters finds her mother dead, her world begins to unravel. She doesn’t know that paranormal forces in a much darker world are the ones pulling the strings. Not until identical twins Jared and Lukas Lockhart break into Kennedy’s room and destroy a dangerous spirit sent to kill her. The brothers reveal that her mother was part of an ancient secret society responsible for protecting the world from a vengeful demon — a society whose five members were all murdered on the same night.

Now Kennedy has to take her mother’s place in the Legion if she wants to uncover the truth and stay alive. Along with new Legion members Priest and Alara, the teens race to find the only weapon that might be able to destroy the demon — battling the deadly spirits he controls every step of the way.

Even though I received an eARC for review I just had to pre-order the finished copy of STIR ME UP for my Kindle. And even if it wasn’t super inexpensive I’d still want to add it to my collection.

I’m reading it right now and so far am loving it. And I hope that by the time this post goes live I’ll have finished reading it and found out what happens with Cami and Julian and with Luke, the boyfriend who seems just the tiniest bit possessive.

I don’t yet know if this story will just be about the romance or whether it will delve a bit deeper with regard to Julian’s injuries. But whether it is a heartfelt and heartbreaking story or just one that’s fun and flirty I can’t wait to finish reading it. Which will definitely happen before its release date if it hasn’t already happened by the time this post is published.

It is the story of the mastermind behind one of the most iconic figures in all of literature: a monster constructed out of dead bodies and brought to life by the tragic Dr. Frankenstein.

Mary wrote Frankenstein at the age of nineteen, but inspiration for the monster came from her life-the atmospheric European settings she visited, the dramas swirling around her, and the stimulating philosophical discussions with the greatest minds of the period, like her close friend, Lord Byron.

The truth about the swirling fog that rolls in each morning, the bridge that leads to nowhere, and those beautiful locals who seem to watch Rory’s every move is more terrifying than being hunted by Steven Nell. And all Rory ever wanted was the truth. Even if it means learning that she can never go home again. From the best-selling author of the Private and Privilege series comes the second novel in a heart-stopping trilogy about a girl who must pick up the pieces after the only life she’s ever known ends.

Eat Brains LoveEAT, BRAINS, LOVE by Jeff Hart

Publisher: HarperTeen

Find It: AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE

Description:

Two teenage zombies search for brains, love, and answers in this surprisingly romantic and laugh-out-loud funny debut novel with guts.

Jake Stephens was always an average, fly-under-the-radar guy. The kind of guy who would never catch the attention of an insanely popular girl like Amanda Blake-or a psychic teenage government agent like Cass. But one day during lunch, Jake’s whole life changed. He and Amanda suddenly locked eyes across the cafeteria, and at the exact same instant, they turned into zombies and devoured half their senior class.

Now Jake definitely has Amanda’s attention-as well as Cass’s, since she’s been sent on a top-secret mission to hunt them down. As Jake and Amanda deal with the existential guilt of eating their best friends, Cass struggles with a growing psychic dilemma of her own-one that will lead the three of them on an epic journey across the country and make them question what it means to truly be alive. Or undead.

Eat, Brains, Love is a heartwarming and bloody blend of romance, deadpan humor, and suspense that fans of Isaac Marion’s Warm Bodies will devour. With its irresistibly dry and authentic teen voice, as well as a zombie apocalypse worthy of AMC’s The Walking Dead, this irreverent paperback original will leave readers dying for the sequel that’s coming in Summer 2014.

Sixteen-year-old Boy’s never left home. When you’re the son of Frankenstein’s monster and the Bride, it’s tough to go out in public, unless you want to draw the attention of a torch-wielding mob. And since Boy and his family live in a secret enclave of monsters hidden under Times Square, it’s important they maintain a low profile.

Boy’s only interactions with the world are through the Internet, where he’s a hacker extraordinaire who can hide his hulking body and stitched-together face behind a layer of code. When conflict erupts at home, Boy runs away and embarks on a cross-country road trip with the granddaughters of Jekyll and Hyde, who introduce him to malls and diners, love and heartbreak. But no matter how far Boy runs, he can’t escape his demons—both literal and figurative—until he faces his family once more.

This hilarious, romantic, and wildly imaginative tale redefines what it means to be a monster—and a man.

Once again it seems that I have eight books pre-ordered, but as I plan on buying ALLURE by Lea Nolan, HEREAFTER by Kate Brian and HIDEOUS LOVE by Stephanie Hemphill, it’s really more like eleven.

While I have read ENDLESS KNIGHT and WILD CARDS and will be finished reading STIR ME UP, there are still a ton of new releases that will be added to the TBR pile in my collection. I wish I could read faster, be less distracted by the various blogs, have more time in the day to read and review books just a bit quicker than I do.

But someday – hopefully soon – I’ll get the chance to read them all. I also hope I didn’t forget any titles like I did last week.

Last week I had an additional book download on Monday Midnight that wasn’t a YA book so I completely missed its release date. It was a total surprise. And that book was…

Vicious

VICIOUS by V.E. Schwab
Pub. Date: September 24, 2013
Publisher: Tor Books
Formats: Hardcover, audio, eBook
Find it: AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE

Description:

A masterful, twisted tale of ambition, jealousy, betrayal, and superpowers, set in a near-future world.

Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong.

Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will. Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?

In Vicious, V. E. Schwab brings to life a gritty comic-book-style world in vivid prose: a world where gaining superpowers doesn’t automatically lead to heroism, and a time when allegiances are called into question.

***

This book sounds totally awesome – hence the pre-order – so I hope I’ll be able to find some time to read it, or get the chance to shove a few books off the pile in order to do so, really, really soon.

Anyway… Once again this post is super long – and has taken me over eight hours to pull together – so I’ll stop my rambling now. But I hope that there are a few awesome books releasing this week that end up topping your TBR pile and I hope that if you do read ENDLESS KNIGHT the ending won’t make you as desperate for the next installment in the series as it did me.

Dying. Abso-freaking-lutely dying.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #95

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of October 23rd-October 29th that I have pre-ordered.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin releases in the U.S. today, October 23, 2012, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 544 pages.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer is the second book in author Michelle Hodkin’s Mara Dyer series. The third book in the series, The Retribution of Mara Dyer is due out in 2013.

***

I am totally enamored of this series. I was intrigued prior to the release of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and I’m even more excited for it now with the release of The Evolution of Mara Dyer, although I still haven’t been able to add book one to my reading pile.

A situation I definitely plan to remedy this fall. But I just had to pre-order this second book in the series so that when I do get the chance to dive in, I will have both books to read.

I did take a peek at the description – I know, I know, I really shouldn’t be doing that – but I am so curious to see what will happen in this second book. And it sounds even more intriguing than the first. Because I love when synopses are written in the format this one’s written in, which totally teases the story without revealing too much.

It makes me want to know why Mara Dyer can’t run from her past. It makes me curious as to just what problems she’s having. It makes me desperate to know why the boy she loves is still keeping secrets. And it makes me anxious about just what choices “prove deadly.”

And with the title of the third book in the series, The Retribution of Mara Dyer, I am very nervous about just where this series is headed. Though I can’t wait to find out.

The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa releases in the U.S. today, October 23, 2012, in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 400 pages.

The Lost Prince is the first book in author Julie Kagawa’s The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten spin-off series. The second book in the series, The Traitor Son, is slated for release in September 2013.

***

I am dying to read The Lost Prince. I have been dying to read it for a couple of months now, actually. But I still haven’t read The Iron Knight due to my aversion to ending the series I love. So I’ve had to wait.

But now that I have the finished copy on my Kindle just begging to be read, I think I will finally be able to read The Iron Knight so that I can start this book, which I’ve already heard is amazing.

I loved Meghan’s little brother Ethan in The Iron Fey series. And being able to read a series about him when he’s just a bit older and revisit this imaginative world the author created is so exciting.

Of course I am just slightly hesitant to start on it due to the description’s warning that I will be demanding book two when I’ve read it. Which I have no doubt will be the case. So, I should probably wait until closer to the release of The Traitor Son.

But somehow I don’t think that will happen. Not when the description mentions that “destiny comes for Ethan” and that “there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.”

Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick releases in the U.S. today, October 23, 2012, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 464 pages.

Finale is the fourth and final book in author Becca Fitpatrick’s Hush, Hush series.

***

I can’t believe this series is ending. Even if I didn’t allow myself to believe it, the title, Finale, sort of forces me to. When I heard of its upcoming release I stalked Amazon until it was finally made available for the Kindle so that I wouldn’t miss the chance to pre-order it. And it’s now officially in my collection.

I am still behind on the series – I haven’t read Silence – but I decided at some point after that book’s release that I would wait until the final book in the series released and start the series from the beginning. Because I loved Crescendo but had an iffy reading experience with Hush, Hush due to bad Kindle formatting and a horrendous plane ride.

So, I want to be able to re-experience the first two books, and then get the chance to move right into the final two books, so that I can follow Nora and Patch’s relationship from start to finish. I still can’t believe this series has ended!

I did take a peek at the description for this book, too. And I am very nervous about whether their love story will end happily or whether it will end with them as the enemies they’re meant to be. I am also very curious about which friend betrays them both.

I plan to start my series read in December and I don’t think it will take more than a week to devour all four books. I am hoping by reading all four books in a row that it will keep me so wrapped up in the world that I’ll forget the series has ended and that I couldn’t possibly let that happen by reading Finale.

Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl releases in the U.S. today, October 23, 2012, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 454 pages.

Beautiful Redemption is the fourth and final book in the authors Caster Chronicles.

***

I am heartbroken that this series is ending with Beautiful Redemption. But I am glad that I now have Ethan and Lena’s entire story, even though I am not caught up on the series.

Yes, another series that I love that I’ve fallen behind on. But with my new reading goals, and with the entire series now released, I will be reading Beautiful Chaos and Beautiful Redemption very soon.

The title for this last book in the series is my favorite, though Beautiful Chaos is a close second, and has me so very curious about just who will be redeemed. I am so very hopeful that their love story will end happily and that they will be able to “rewrite their fate.” Though I’m very nervous that won’t happen.

As I’ve nattered on and on in my Book Watch post the other week, I will only say that I am keeping my fingers crossed that Lena’s vow to “do whatever it takes” to get Ethan back won’t be the very thing that keeps them apart.

Sacrifice by Cayla Kluver releases in the U.S. today, October 23, 2012, in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 448 pages.

Sacrifice is the third book in author Cayla Kluver’s Legacy series.

***

I have yet to read the books in the Legacy series but I just had to add Sacrifice to my collection this week. I own the first two books in the series – Legacy and Allegiance – and I couldn’t resist the chance to add this third book.

Because this series sounds unbelievably epic. Battling Kingdoms. Dark legacies. Magic. An ill-fated love story. And now two main characters whose stories intertwine.

I am just so curious to meet Alera and Shaselle. I want to know just what they are conspiring and if it will lead them to freedom. The description hints that in order for them to succeed they must each sacrifice something. And I am eager to find out just what that is.

I hope to add this entire series to my reading pile this winter as there’s nothing quite like an epic and magical story to make me forget how short the days are.

Wolf Pact (Part Two) by Melissa de la Cruz releases in the U.S. today, October 23, 2012, in eBook format only and is available to order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Disney Hyperion, the print length is 43 pages.

Wolf Pact (Part Two) is the second of four installments that comprise the author’s full-length novel, Wolf Pact, the first in this spin-off series.

***

As I’m a fan of eBooks, and because the print and eBook editions of the complete book were unavailable to pre-order, I’ve pre-ordered each installment in Wolf Pact. Though I don’t plan on reading them until they’ve all been released.

I am super excited that this series is finally being released. I feel like I’ve waited forever to read Bliss Llewellyn’s story. While Jack and Schuyler will always be my favorite characters from Blue Bloods, I can’t help but be curious about Bliss’s story.

And I am very curious to see just what happens when she finds the Hounds of Hell and meets Lawson.

Foundation by Ann Aguirre releases in the U.S. today, October 23, 2012, in eBook format only and is available to order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Tor Books, the print length is 18 pages.

Foundation is a short novella in the author’s Razorland series.

***

Ann Aguirre’s Razorland series is one I just know I will love. I own both eBooks and have Outpost in audiobook format, so I just had to buy this short novella, Foundation. Especially since it tells the story of why humans were forced below ground.

But, I’m also definitely curious about just whose point of view the story is told from, since the description mentions it’s someone with “influence over the fate of many.”

I will be reading – and listening to – this series in November, though I will have to try and resist the urge to read this story first.

With five full-length books and two shorter eBooks being added to my collection this week, I have quite a bit of reading to do if I want my TBR pile not to get too out of control… or any more OOC than it already is.

But there are some seriously amazing books releasing this week, with two series I love coming to an end. As I am behind on each and every one of them I have a lot of catching up to do. But as every one of those series is on my must reads list I have no doubt I will be reading them soon.

I’m sure I’m missing some wicked awesome books as I haven’t had the chance to scope out the publishers’ catalogs as of late. So if there are any books I’ve missed that are a must, I would love it if you let me know.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!
