Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of December 25th-December 31st that I have pre-ordered.

NEVERFALL by Brodi Ashton will be released in the U.S. on December 26, 2012 in eBook format only. It is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The eBook is published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins.

NEVERFALL is a novella set between EVERNEATH and EVERBOUND in the author’s Everneath series. EVERBOUND, the second book in the series, is set to release on January 22, 2013.

I have been delaying finishing my read of EVERBOUND so that I won’t have to wait so long for the third book in the series, but now that NEVERFALL is releasing I know I won’t be able to resist reading both the novella and the novel.

As soon as I heard that the author wrote a story all about Cole I could not wait for its release. And the second I heard it was available to pre-order, I did. And then I read the description.

Now I’m just dying for it to download. Which won’t be until the 26th due to the holiday. Because it explains Cole’s whereabouts. It sets him on a quest. And it may have some answers about just what his true feelings are.

I am so unbelievably excited to read this. And I’m really glad I didn’t finish reading EVERBOUND because now, when I read this, I think it might just change how I read the full-length novel.

This novella sounds incredibly exciting, packed full of information that I’m desperate to know, and I am super psyched for its release on Wednesday.

KISS ME AGAIN by Rachel Vail will be released in the U.S. on December 26, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

I have not yet started to read this series but it looked so cute and like so much fun that I bought book one and pre-ordered KISS ME AGAIN. I want to find out more about this “off-limit” love story.

The first book was released in 2005, so this follow-up has been a long time in the making. But I’m guessing by its title that Charlie and Kevin did kiss. Even though her best friend was in love with him and her mother and his father are dating.

But I am super curious to find out what happens in this follow-up. I did take a peek at the description – it’s why I decided to pre-order this book in the first place – and the first line is a little bit swoon-worthy.

As the description for this sequel is totally spoiler-y for the first book, I won’t talk too much about it. But, I will say that the obstacles in this sequel seem much, much, much more challenging.

And I can’t wait to read both books. Hopefully this will happen in early February.

I am definitely excited for this sequel to DARKNESS BEFORE DAWN. I very much enjoyed reading that book and can’t wait to find out what’s happening next in BLOOD-KISSED SKY. I pre-ordered it back in August, and I’m so glad that it will be downloading this week. Though I am going to wait until January to read it so I can list it among my 2013 reads.

As I already spotlighted this for my Book Watch post, I will keep this brief. But things ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and I’m curious to find out just what happened next.

I love the idea of Day Walkers and the fact that they’re out and about “terrorizing the city” has me even more excited for this sequel. I am also super interested in finding out just why things are so much worse with Victor in charge.

I will definitely be reading this one very soon and taking the journey with Dawn across the wastelands. I just hope the ending isn’t too torturous, even though the wait for the next book isn’t too long.

ANNABEL by Lauren Oliver will be released on December 26, 2012 in eBook format only. It is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

ANNABEL is a prequel novella in author Lauren Oliver’s Delirium series. The third book in the series, REQUIEM, is set to release on March 5, 2013.

I am so behind on this series, but it was totally on purpose. Because I was told that PANDEMONIUM had an even more torturous ending than DELIRIUM. And so I’ve been waiting for the final book’s release before I continue reading.

But I am so thrilled that ANNABEL is releasing this week. And I plan on reading it over the holidays. Because it is a prequel story, unlike HANA, it won’t – I hope – tease me too much about what is to come in books two and three, since REQUIEM isn’t releasing until March.

I can’t wait to find out more about Annabel and “discover her secrets.” I love that this story will reveal parts of her past and will tell of her “daring escape.”

Lauren Oliver is an amazing writer and she always, always, always manages to pull me into the stories she creates. I find her writing to be absolutely hauntingly beautiful and I cannot wait to finally get the chance to read another book in this series. Even if it is a short one.

FULL MOON KISSES by Ellen Schreiber will be released in the U.S. on December 26, 2012 in hardcover and eBook format. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

I own both books in the Full Moon series, though I only read the first one. So I have some catching up to do once FULL MOON KISSES downloads this week. Although I probably won’t be able to catch up on the series until late spring, as part of the 2013 TBR Pile Reading Challenge.

I’m such a fan of author Ellen Schreiber’s Vampire Kisses series. And while I wasn’t as in love with Celeste in the first book in this series as I was with Raven in her series, I’ve always planned on reading the rest of the series to find out just how things end.

I totally took a peek at the description, though I probably shouldn’t have as I haven’t read book two. But I couldn’t help myself. It reveals that someone wants to turn Celeste into a werewolf. Which does not sound like a good thing.

The description talks of cures and dilemmas and promises “danger,” “mystery,” and romance. And as this series is slated to end this year I’m so very curious to see who Celeste chooses and to find out how it all wraps up.

Oh my gosh NEVERFALL is releasing this week! I cannot wait to dive in. I wish it was releasing on Tuesday instead of Wednesday as I’d totally have stay up late reading it on Monday night. But I have to go to work on Wednesday so I won’t get to read it until Wednesday night! That’s an ENTIRE day with Cole’s story just begging to be read and me not being able to read it.

Yes the problems I face are ginormous. (Not even close.) But still. It’s COLE. And I am TEAM COLE. So….

But I’m just as tempted by ANNABEL, even though I have the feeling it will only make me that much more tempted to start PANDEMONIUM. Ugh. The temptations I face!

Anyway, there are five great books releasing this week that I’m more than happy to add to my collection. I’m just getting really, really scared about the fact that next week – and I think the week thereafter – have books in the double digits that I have pre-ordered.

Must. Read. Faster. Must. Avoid. Tumblr.

There are so many amazing books and novellas releasing the week of December 25th – I am absolutely dying to read Cole’s story in NEVERFALL – but I chose BLOOD-KISSED SKY as the book to watch this week as it is also a story I’m dying to continue, and it is a full-length book.

To say the ending was a cliffhanger is a bit of an understatement. It was a ginormous cliff, and I was definitely left hanging. So I have been super anxious to continue the story in this second book in the series. Which has an absolutely gorgeous cover. (Though, oh my gosh I love the cover for AFTER DAYBREAK.)

The first lines of the description are a total tease – “There’s nowhere left to hide.” – and I’m so excited to find out if that’s true. The situation in Dawn’s world seems to have gotten even more dire and now Victor is potentially in danger…. along with all of vampire and humankind.

This second book in the series involves a journey across the wastelands. I love, love, love going on quests with the characters and I can’t wait to see if Dawn finds the answers she needs to save the ones she loves and… well… everyone.

I hope that she, at the very least, finds what she needs to in order to save Victor from the Thirst. But I don’t think I’ll mind, at all, reading about the Day Walkers terrorizing the city. I love the idea of vampires as Day Walkers.

This sequel sounds even more exciting than the first book in the trilogy and I can’t wait until its release to continue Dawn’s quest. And yes, while I’m totally excited for each and every one of the books I’ve listed below that are releasing this week, I chose BLOOD-KISSED SKY to put in the spotlight because I just have to know what happens next.

I am so excited that Dreamless is releasing this week. I have got to get a hard copy and somehow find a way to get it signed to match my signed copy of Starcrossed. I absolutely adore this series. And I ended up reading Dreamless super early because I just couldn’t wait.

But I’m dying to read it again. Because I read it ages ago. And I miss Helen and Lucas. Though…. Oh no. I probably shouldn’t talk about Helen and Lucas because of what happened. But, I love the mythology in this sequel. And Helen’s trips into the Underworld are absolutely fascinating. And of course I’m terribly worried about Orion.

Even still, I am excited that Dreamless is releasing this week, because that means it’s that much closer to the release of the next book in the series so I can find out what happens. Because the way things ended is completely and totally torturous.

Between the Furies, Hades, the difficult situation that Helen and Lucas find themselves in, all those things that were left up in the air at the end of Starcrossed, and now with this new complication, Orion, this sequel is definitely one I can’t wait to have on my Kindle this week.

I have had Darkness Before Dawn pre-ordered for my Kindle for ages and I can’t believe it’s finally releasing this week. I was fortunate to receive an ARC through a trade so I did manage to read and review it already, but I want to have this eBook for my collection.

I love the idea of a dystopian society in which vampires are in control. And this first book in the new trilogy is a quick and entertaining read that offers a peek at this dark and exciting future.

With a yummy character like Victor and a build-up to a ending that will definitely leave readers hanging off a cliff, Darkness Before Dawn is a great addition to the genre and one I’m super stoked to own this week.

Dark Frost by Jennifer Estep will be released in the U.S. on May 29, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

I have not yet read this series but own the first two books and have this third book pre-ordered to download this week. I have wanted to meet Gwen Frost for what seems like forever and find out just what goes on at Mythos Academy. And I really hope to catch up on the series this summer.

I heard the Mythos Academy series is awesome and Gwen’s magical ability sounds totally wicked. And while I haven’t read the previous books, I did take a peek at the description. I just couldn’t resist.

And Dark Frost sounds just as action-packed as the earlier books. It seems the Reapers are after a dagger that Gwen’s mom hid. A dagger that they think she knows the location of, but they’re wrong. And she won’t be able to track it down using her ability, which makes things really dangerous for her.

I can’t wait to find out whether she is able to win the fight against the Reapers, or at least find the dagger they’re looking for. And I’m curious to see if things are still going well for her and Logan Quinn by this story’s end. The title for the next book in the series makes me just a little nervous about how things end and I hope to find out soon.

Keep Holding On by Susane Colasanti will be released in the U.S. on May 31, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

I can’t believe I almost missed the chance to pre-order Keep Holding On. I wanted to pre-order it for my Kindle back in February, but it wasn’t available. But thanks to Giselle of Xpresso Reads who tweeted her Fresh Batch post on Friday, I saw that it was releasing this week and immediately headed over to Amazon to order it.

I have three of the author’s books already on my Kindle, one I read prior to becoming a blogger, and have been keeping an eye on the author’s new releases ever since.

This story sounds absolutely heartrending and I can’t wait to read it and meet Noelle. The description reveals it’s a story about bullying and neglect and survival. Yet it promises to be “romantic and empowering.” It’s been quite some time since I read a contemporary story about real-to-life issues and this one sounds like it has the potential for a happy ending even if there may be some heartbreak and tears along the way.

I very much enjoyed the author’s When It Happens and I can’t wait to check out her newest offering. I definitely plan to read it this summer. Though, hopefully I’ll be able to read it next week.

Yet another week with only four new books being added to my permanent collection. And fortunately only two of those books will be on the TBR pile as I’ve read Dreamless and Darkness Before Dawn already. Although I really want to read Dreamless again….

I’ve been trying to cut back on my book buying, but it hasn’t been successful. Especially since I’ve been going off pile for my reads and buying up already released non-YA book series that I hadn’t had in my collection. Like the remaining books in the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost and all the books in Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series.

And with a ton of new releases in YA coming out this summer, I’m definitely afraid of hitting that one thousand book milestone on my Kindle. Although, I actually think I might be past that number, as I may have a few in the archives that I haven’t downloaded just so that I don’t have to face that reality quite yet.

Anyway….

There are some awesome new releases coming out this week and I can’t wait to officially call them mine when they download on Monday night. I also can’t wait for my Kindle downloads of Shadow Bound, Dark Kiss and The Girl in the Clockwork Collar to download on June 1st.

So, yes, this is definitely a great week for my Kindle. But I hope I’m not the only one and that you have some amazing books scheduled to download to your eReader on Monday or arrive at your doorstep on Tuesday!

In Darkness Before Dawn the authors combined a dystopian world with the paranormal to create a story with an edge that sets itself apart from many of the stories in this genre. The vampires are reminiscent of the cold-hearted, blood-thirsty vampires depicted in horror stories versus love stories, with the exception of a few whose natures appear slightly more humane and one, in particular, who appears almost human.

The story has a nice, even pace that picks up at its end along with the action and suspense. But at times there were some issues with the flow. Much of the story moved along easily and flowed naturally, with writing that was engaging, wonderfully descriptive and often beautiful, but there were moments when there was an awkwardness to the writing and where the characters didn’t behave as expected. Even with these bumps, however, the interesting characters and intriguing world are more than enough to keep readers connected to the story.

A first book in this new series, Darkness Before Dawn gives readers a little bit of everything. A dark, dystopian future, humanity on the verge of extinction, numerous deadly enemies, unrest among the humans and among the vampires, secrets, lies and betrayals, a love triangle, an ill-fated love story and a cliffhanger ending. Add in action, mystery and tension and this is one story that will captivate fans of the genre.

On a personal note:

What drew me to this story was the premise. I loved the idea of a world where vampires ruled. Where they weren’t about living in harmony with humans. Where humans were simply their blood supply.

I loved the world the authors created. It was dark. It was violent. It was most definitely grim, practically hopeless and extremely isolated. I was easily and immediately transported into the world and I could imagine its crumbling buildings, its fearful citizens, it’s daring and rebellious residents who were just itching for a taste of freedom.

And I absolutely adored Victor. He was my favorite character in this book. He was charming. He was brave. He was incredibly fast and strong and smart. And he was a hero. A virtual knight in shining armor at times.

While I wasn’t initially a Dawn fan, she did grow on me. And her character did grow over the course of the story, which I always love to see. She was incredibly sympathetic for all she had lost. But for someone who was brave much of the time, she seemed to be a bit of a pushover at others.

There were a few twists and turns, one pretty big one, though I wasn’t caught by surprise when it came to light. But it was still an awesome change in direction nonetheless and one that totally made the ending incredibly exciting.

I definitely want to know more about the world outside of Denver. I want to know more about the night train. I want to know more about what it means to be a delegate. I want to know more about the lesser vampires and just how things got as bad as they did. I want to know more about the vampires in charge.

And I want to know what happens next for Dawn and Victor. As that was one giant cliffhanger the authors left me with.

What pulled me out of the story at various times during the read was some of the writing and character development. I thought much of the writing was absolutely beautiful. There were gorgeously written and incredibly meaningful passages. But they often sat side-by-side with some that were more awkwardly written with unusual ways of describing things.

At times I felt very connected to the writing and the story and at other times I didn’t. Perhaps it’s because there were two writers involved and their styles didn’t quite blend as smoothly as I might have liked in order to keep me connected. Or perhaps it was simply that I was able to connect to one writer’s style versus another.

I was also somewhat surprised by the change in direction with Michael’s character. The picture painted of him was that for years he was the best friend and practically perfect. And all of a sudden he becomes pushy, argumentative, demanding and selfish. With no real explanation given and no lead up to the change.

There were a couple instances where Dawn’s actions and reactions felt out of character, too. Even though she’d been through a lot, she was still brave, she still fought for what she thought was right and she took on the responsibility of being a delegate after the deaths of her parents. And yet she allowed herself to be persuaded against her better judgment to attend a party in a dangerous area and go for a wall walk and risk leaving the city because her friends wanted to.

But neither were enough to make me want to set this book aside. I did devour it in one sitting. I found myself always wanting to know more. And I couldn’t help but be most curious about Victor and his past.

While this wasn’t a brand new idea, the authors did make it their own. I found the world to be intriguing and by the end of the story incredibly exciting. I found characters to love, hate or be exceedingly frustrated with, all of whom I think played an important role and contributed to making this story pretty great.

I actually had quite a few favorite passages. Some were sort of beautiful, some were thoughtful, and some left me a little breathless. But I thought I’d include the one that just made me smile.

“I like you, Dawn. I’ve seen a lot of humans, from far away and up close. I’ve never met one like you. I think you’re the closest thing to a sunrise I’ll ever see.”

There are so many amazing books out there – released or soon-to-be-released – that have certain passages that just captivate.

Here are just a few of those that caught my attention in the past few months.

I had quite a few favorite passages that I bookmarked in Forgiven. Many of them were sarcastic, because I always love the sarcastic quotes, but some were of the breathtaking, heart-stopping variety.

I shared one of my favorite passages in my review, but this passage is such a tease I couldn’t resist….

Sweet Evil is one of my absolute favorite reads of 2012. There was so much sweetness and a whole heck of a lot of evil. Wickedly delicious this book was. Oh, yes.

While I refrained from revealing anything too torturous in my review, I couldn’t help but post one of the more delectable passages in this edition of The Extras.

As the series ending book, Destined had so many amazingly tease-worthy passages. I chose a much less teaser-y passage for my review, but thought I could get away with being just a little bit more revealing here.

Besides, Destined is on shelves now, so it’s not like anyone couldn’t just grab a copy and devour all the amazing passages.

A Temptation of Angels was absolutely gorgeous. The writing was gorgeous. The story was gorgeous. Which meant that there were so many passages to choose from.

In my review I chose one that was just hot enough to get your pule racing. Well this is the passage right before that one. And with all that it implies, it is rather full of promise. Oh yes, totally tantalizing. But that’s okay, because this is the teaser post after all….

There were just so many awesome, horrific, chilling, amazing passages in Fugitives. Which didn’t make choosing a passage easy. Not by a long shot.

But I happened to have two favorite non-spoiler-y ones. One I included with my review. And the other I’m keeping all to myself. Because I just couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by to include one of the more chilling passages instead.

The writing in Masque of the Red Death was beautiful and haunting. I could eat it up with a spoon it was so yummy. The words just melted, dissolved and became air that just drifted away.

I did include a favorite passage of mine with my review, but it wasn’t the only amazing passage in this book. There were still so many breathtaking passages to choose from that picking just one wasn’t easy. And I almost chose one that was a bit more revealing, but to keep the air of mystery I ultimately chose this one….

Oh, if I could quote ninety percent of this book I would. There were just so many seriously awesome passages to choose from in Insurgent. I had a hard enough time narrowing down my favorites for my review post, so I chose two. But that by no means implies that they were the only passages I loved.

And as I had just as difficult a time choosing one for this post, I caved and chose two more. What can I say? I love this book.

Besides, they’re both short. It’s not like I chose the passage that starts, “His mouth moves against mine….” Now, that would have been a longer, way more intense teaser.

And….

My most recent read is Darkness Before Dawn and so I haven’t chosen a favorite passage for my review just yet. Which means that I get to tease a passage here first, revealing one a little more tantalizing than I might otherwise include in my review.

And I just couldn’t resist teasing a little bit more from this same scene, just moments later….

Well, I suppose that’s all. Eight teased books are more than enough for just one post. Though I am so tempted to tease a couple passages from Embers & Echoes and Shadow Bound.
