As a huge fan of trailers I was totally stoked to be invited to be a part of the trailer reveals for GRAVITY and LUMINOSITY. Now, not only do I have cover love, I think both trailers are super cool. Which makes the wait for both books even harder.
Fortunately both GRAVITY and LUMINOSITY will be releasing in just a few weeks, so the wait isn’t too bad….
Anyway… below are both trailers and some info about the books and authors. And there’s also an eBook giveaway hosted by the publisher. So be sure to check them out!
I love this trailer! It’s dark and edgy, not at all what I’d expected for this title, but I think it’s awesome. I want to meet this enemy that might be the only one Ari can trust. I so can’t wait!
Title:GRAVITY (The Taking #1) Author: Melissa West Pages: 400 Publisher: Entangled Teen Release Date: October 30, 2012
In the future, only one rule will matter:
Don’t. Ever. Peek.
Seventeen-year-old Ari Alexander just broke that rule and saw the last person she expected hovering above her bed — arrogant Jackson Locke, the most popular boy in her school. She expects instant execution or some kind of freak alien punishment, but instead, Jackson issues a challenge: help him, or everyone on Earth will die.
Ari knows she should report him, but everything about Jackson makes her question what she’s been taught about his kind. And against her instincts, she’s falling for him. But Ari isn’t just any girl, and Jackson wants more than her attention. She’s a military legacy who’s been trained by her father and exposed to war strategies and societal information no one can know — especially an alien spy, like Jackson. Giving Jackson the information he needs will betray her father and her country, but keeping silent will start a war.
Melissa lives in a tiny suburb of Atlanta, GA with her husband and daughter. She pretends to like yoga, actually likes shoes, and could not live without coffee. Her writing heroes include greats like Jane Austen and Madeleine L’Engle.
She holds a B.A. in Communication Studies and an M.S. in Graphic Communication, both from Clemson University. Yeah, her blood runs orange.
Okay, I think I’ve fallen for the enemy in this trailer too! I really hope Beatrice can be the protector she needs to be. And I really love the song, though I may have gotten caught up in the lyrics on my first or second viewing before I read through all those teasers about the book. But this is so another book I can’t wait for!
Title:LUMINOSITY (Raven Chronicles #1) Author:Stephanie Thomas Pages:400 Publisher:Entangled Teen Release Date:November 6, 2012
My name is Beatrice. When I was born, I was blessed with the Sight. I was immediately removed from my parents and enrolled in the Institution. At the age of twelve, I had my first true vision, earning my raven’s wings. And when I turned seventeen, one of my visions came true. Things haven’t been the same since.
The Institution depends on me to keep the City safe from our enemy, the Dreamcatchers, but I’m finding it harder to do while keeping a secret from everyone, including my best friend Gabe. It is a secret that could put us all in danger. A secret that could kill me and everyone close to me.
But the enemy has been coming to me in my dreams, and I think I’m falling in love with him. He says they’re coming. He says they’re angry. And I think I’ve already helped them win.
Stephanie Thomas has been writing ever since she could put letters together to form words. When she was a small child, she would present her mother and father with self-made newspapers filled up with make believe stories and pictures. Her love for writing followed her all throughout her schooling, where she entered and won writing contests of all sorts.
Stephanie decided to become an English teacher and completed her B.A. at The Pennsylvania State University. While teaching, she later went on to get her Master’s in writing from The Johns Hopkins University. She completed her very first manuscript during her graduate studies, and by the end of the program, she had completed two more.
Stephanie is quick to tell anyone that she’s a born and raised Philadelphian, and her heart will always belong there. She moved to Baltimore with her husband, and they’ve been living there for the last five years with their doggie, Sailor, and their rabbit, Buns (aka “T Sizzle).
I am such a huge fan of this series, the author and Daemon Black. So when I was invited by Entangled Publishing to be a part of this cover reveal I had to drop everything to get this post ready. Because there was no way that I was going to miss being able to share this cover on the blog.
I love how well this cover fits in with the rest of the series yet is just a bit different, not only with the clarity of the image, but the placement of the book title. I also love that it doesn’t contain all the additional text on its face, allowing the image to take center stage.
This tagline has me the most intrigued of them all. It begs the question – What exactly is it that they are going to have to risk?
And I absolutely love the color. And I love the tone. It’s still dark like the covers for OBSIDIAN and ONYX, but there is a brightness to it that I like, similar to the cover for SHADOWS, which brings a nice balance to the series when you look at all four covers together.
I also like that on this cover Katy has a sweet, almost vulnerable look to her, versus the previous cover where she had a harder edge. Of course I wish Daemon Black was facing forward so I could see both of his eyes, but he looks pretty amazing, so I’m not going to complain too much.
About the Book
No one is like Daemon Black.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
The Authors Are Rockstars Tour has officially ended. While we would have loved to have this continue year-round, it’s time to let those authors go back to writing the books we love so very much.
We are all so amazed, overwhelmed and surprised at the response we got from authors, bloggers and readers alike. We had no idea when we started out that it would get as much attention and support. So we are eternally grateful.
In the end, we had 102 authors and 96 blogs (including our own) participating in this event. And without each and every one of them, this would not have been the success it was. And even though there were just a couple hiccups along the way, for an event as large as this one was, we definitely consider it a win.
If you haven’t had a chance to catch up with all 102 stops on the tour, CLICK HERE, for an updated tour schedule with links that go to each and every stop on the tour. While most of the giveaways will have ended, the posts are so much fun to read and you won’t want to miss them.
We tried to make this event entertaining and showcase some phenomenal authors that we love. We hope we achieved that goal.
We tried to match authors with bloggers who considered them their rockstars and tried to include a variety of authors and bloggers on this tour. We hope we succeeded in that too.
While all the authors on the tour were ones we considered rockstars, it was by no means all inclusive of the authors we think rock! Some authors were unable to participate, some authors may not have received our invitation – apparently SPAM was not our friend – and some authors we may not have reached out to because we couldn’t locate their information or because we had such an overwhelming response to our outreach.
We had hoped for 31 authors, not expecting nearly that many, so hosting 102 was a dream come true!
We hope you learned something new about your rockstar authors, hope that you found a few new authors to call rockstars and hope you had a good time following the tour around this August!
While this was intended as a once-in-a-lifetime event, who knows what may change in a year….
Oh, and before we forget….
As this tour wraps up, we are also wrapping up the mega giveaway we included as part of this month-long event. Stay tuned for the winners’ announcement post next week.
To all of those we owe thanks to….
First and foremost we have to thank every single author for generously volunteering their time and agreeing to be a part of our event. Without them this wouldn’t have been even close to the huge success it was. Their posts were the perfect mix of fun, entertaining, informative and exciting to read. With a tour that consisted of top ten lists, vlogs, interviews, character interviews, excerpts, teasers and more, visiting all the stops on tour provided hours of enjoyment.
And it put some amazing books and authors with upcoming titles on our radars.
We also want to thank them for their generous donations of books and swag and even a character naming. The authors’ time was all we asked for, so their volunteering to give away these prizes was above and beyond our wildest expectations. This event was meant to showcase them not to have them reach into their pockets.
And of course we have to thank the generosity of Harlequin TEEN for supporting each of their authors by donating books and spreading the word about our event and Entangled Publishing for their eBook donations. Both publishers’ support of their authors was an amazing surprise and one we are so incredibly appreciative of.
But they weren’t the only publishers we have to thank for their support. HarperTeen, Macmillan Children’s Books and SimonTEEN were incredibly supportive for spreading the word throughout the month about not only their authors on tour, but the tour as a whole.
And then there are the bloggers. Without their passion and love for the authors they call rockstars we wouldn’t have had an event either. It was their glowing and gushing words of support for the authors they hosted that made visiting each stop on this tour awesome.
We cannot thank them enough for signing up for the event, for writing such rockin’ posts for their authors, for donating their time and efforts to help support this event and even for donating prizes in support of their authors. They, too, are the rockstars of this event and we couldn’t have done it without them!
Last, but not least, we have to thank those readers who visited the stops, who left comments, who discovered new authors, who fell more in love with the authors they did know, and who also supported our event by just being there.
And from one tour host to another, I would like to thank both Jaime and Patricia for co-hosting this event with me.
Jaime, thank you so very much for making this event even possible. Without your support, this never would have happened. Without your courage to reach out to the authors on tour, I never would have had the courage to do the same.
Without your tireless efforts we never could have kept up with all the back and forth with the authors and bloggers not only prior to the start of the event but throughout. And without your connections with many of the authors on this tour, I know this would have been a much smaller tour than it was.
Patricia, thank you so much for your help in making this event a success. Your assistance in matching authors and bloggers and your research into finding matches for the new author adds was invaluable. And thank you so very much for spreading the word about the event and visiting the stops on the tour each day.
Well, we guess that’s about it. If there is anyone we forgot to include in our thanks we are so very sorry. It’s been a whirlwind but we hope that we included you all!
Stay tuned for next week’s prize announcement posts on both blogs. But for now….
I am thrilled to be a part of the cover reveal for Naturals by Tiffany Truitt. I absolutely loved the cover for the first book in the series, Chosen Ones, and was super excited to find out just what the cover to book two would look like.
While I may have gotten a peek at it earlier this weekend, I couldn’t wait to take a longer look when I received it from Entangled Publishing on Sunday. And I think I love this second book’s cover even more.
This cover is so beautiful. But not too perfect. It fits the title so well as there is just something very natural about it.
I love the warmer tones in this second book’s cover, which is in contrast to the cooler tones in the first cover. And I love the look of serenity on the model’s face. Which, interestingly, is also the opposite of the model’s expression on the first book’s cover. Yet I loved both the cooler colors and the model’s fierce expression on the earlier cover, too.
I like how the font and the placement of the author’s name, title, series title and tagline are all in same order and roughly the same placement as they were on the cover for Chosen Ones. And, as with the first cover, I love just how beautiful and distinctive the fonts are for this series.
And I love how the earth beneath the model in repose is also cracked. It is yet another element that establishes continuity between the two. But I love that for this cover, the shot is a closer one, allowing the model’s expression to be the focus.
This cover is just so stunning that I may just have to break my rule against buying print books just so I can see what it looks like in real life. Too bad release date is so very far away.
About the Book
Tess is finally safe from the reach of the Council, now that she is living in the Middlelands with the rebel Isolationists. With James having returned to Templeton, she easily falls back into her friendship with Henry, though her newfound knowledge of Robert’s chosen one status still stings.
Even surrounded by people, Tess has never felt more alone. So she’s thrilled when James returns to the settlement, demanding to see Tess — until she finds out that it’s because her sister, Louisa, has been recruited into Tess’s old position at Templeton, and that the dangerously sadistic chosen one George has taken an interest in her.
NATURALS is the second book in The Lost Souls trilogy, and follows the dystopian hit CHOSEN ONES.
Tiffany Truitt was born in Peoria, Illinois. A self-proclaimed Navy brat, Tiffany spent most of her childhood living in Virginia, but don’t call her a Southerner. She also spent a few years living in Cuba. Since her time on the island of one McDonald’s and Banana Rats (don’t ask) she has been obsessed with traveling. Tiffany recently added China to her list of travels (hello inspiration for a new book).
Besides traveling, Tiffany has always been an avid reader. The earliest books she remembers reading belong to The Little House on the Prairie Series. First book she read in one day? Little Woman(5th grade). First author she fell in love with? Jane Austen in middle school. Tiffany spent most of her high school and college career as a literary snob. She refused to read anything considered “low brow” or outside the “classics.”
Tiffany began teaching middle school in 2006. Her students introduced her to the wide, wonderful world of Young Adult literature. Today, Tiffany embraces popular Young Adult literature and uses it in her classroom. She currently teaches the following novels: The Outsiders, Speak, Night, Dystopian Literature Circles: The Hunger Games, The Giver, The Uglies, and Matched.
Here’s a peek at both covers for the series side-by-side. Aren’t they gorgeous? So similar and yet so very different. One fierce, one calm. One cool, one warm. One with eyes open, one with them closed. One at a distance, one up close. And yet both work in harmony.
If you’d like to add both books to your Goodreads TBR pile, just click the image below.
I am so thrilled to be participating in Entangled Teen’s blog tour for author Tara Fuller’s book INBETWEEN. As some of you may already know, I am a huge fan of reapers of the non-grim variety – though I don’t mind the grim ones either – and Finn is definitely not grim. Neither is Easton….
Anyway… I thought it would be a lot of fun to have the author stop by for a “Top Ten” type of post and she decided to share some of her favorite not-too-spoiler-y moments from INBETWEEN. And I also get to post a short excerpt from the book.
But first, here’s just a little bit about the book and the author. Just in case you haven’t met either of them yet.
About the Book
Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky — and unending — lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.
It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left…his soul.
Tara Fuller writes novels. Some about grim reapers. Some about witches. All of course are delightfully full of teen angst and kissing.
Tara grew up in a one stop light town in Oklahoma where once upon a time she stayed up with a flashlight reading RL Stine novels and only dreamed of becoming a writer. She has a slight obsession with music and a shameless addiction for zombie fiction, Mystery Science Theater, and black and white mochas.
Tara no longer lives in a one stop light town. Now she lives with her family in a slightly larger town in North Carolina where they have at least three stoplights.
Well, now that you’ve had the chance to get to know just what the book is about and to learn some rather interesting facts about the author – like her passion for Mystery Science Theater – here’s your chance to learn even more.
The author shares seven of her favorite scenes. And while they are revealing, they tease but don’t spoil. So prepare to be teased. Prepared to be tantalized. And prepare to be just a tiny bit shocked.
Tara’s Favorite INBETWEEN Moments
#1) Our introduction to Easton! I love Easton and I love his entrance into this scene.
I looked up from the edge of Emma’s bed just as Easton melted up from the polished hardwood floor beneath the window. Like an oil slick coming to life, he unfolded his long, shadowy legs until he was just an inkblot in front of the splash of lamplight on her wall. His violet eyes pinned me like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
Which I kind of was.
“Nothing,” I lied.
“Yeah, looked like nothing.” He strolled across the room accompanied by a wave of sulfur and smoke, the black serpent tattoo on his neck glinting.
“Jesus, Easton.” I scrunched up my nose and climbed to my feet. “Don’t they have a shower somewhere between here and the afterlife?”
“Screw you. You didn’t just have to tow somebody’s grandpa to Hell.” He brushed something chalky and gray off his long coat, and a shudder worked its way down my spine.
God only knows what—or who—it had belonged to. “Besides, I wasn’t the one about to feel up a sleeping human.”
Fiktshun: Oooh, I liked this scene. Easton just so happens to be my favorite character and it was this scene in particular that drew me to him.
#2) The first time Finn shows himself to Emma. I love the thoughts running through his head in this moment. It’s when everything changes for him.
With a deafening crash, the sign behind us skidded across the concrete steps, splintering into sparks and blades. I lay there for a few seconds, stunned by the feel of Emma’s solid warmth beneath me, the hectic swell of her lungs pumping against my chest. I was…touching her. Her sapphire-blue eyes stared back into mine. Our noses nearly touched. Her peppermint breath clung to my lips.
“You can see me,” I said, breathless.
“Of course I can see you.” Emma glanced over my shoulder, but she didn’t make a move. “Your face is practically touching my face. It would be kind of hard not to see you.”
Fiktshun: I loved that he seemed so surprised that she could see him. After being what he was for so many years it must have been rather amazing to really be seen. And by this particular girl, too.
#3) This is the scene when Finn comes clean to Emma and has to convince her that she’s not crazy. This is one of my favorite moments between them.
I ran an iridescent finger down her arm to her wrist, watched it scatter like stars across her skin. Her breath hitched in her throat. Her heart beat so hard the sound rippled through me like a shock wave. When her eyes met mine, the amount of want in them nearly brought me to my knees. Even through the fear and anger she had to be feeling, I knew she felt what I felt. The connection. The warmth. The rightness of this moment.
“Tell me you feel it,” I whispered.
She released the breath she’d been holding. “Yes.”
I let my thumbs brush down her arms and she gasped. Fireworks ignited across the places that I touched. Emma’s eyes opened. Glistening with wonder. Wide with fear.
“Trust me,” I said. “You’re that girl.”
Fiktshun: Well now, this is just a tease isn’t it.
#4) Sigh…This entire scene made me fall in love with Finn.
I could feel the thought coming before it even formed. It started in that sad, hollow space in my chest, then worked its way up my aching throat. I could feel it behind my lips, fighting to be heard. Burning me up inside. But I couldn’t say that to her. I didn’t have a right to. So instead I let it run loose in my head. Three words that wouldn’t stop.
I love you.
I couldn’t stay still any longer. I crossed the room until I was standing over her, this girl I loved. She stopped swaying and looked up at me. I reached out my hand. “Dance with me.”
Fiktshun: *swoon* … *swoon* … Soooo romantic.
#5) Maeve is the villain in this story. I love her breaking in this scene. It’s when the reader really gets to see her emotional motivation for all of the chaos she’s been creating.
I glanced at her hand. It was wrapped around a blade. My blade. My scythe. It looked so awkward in her white fist. Mine felt so incredibly empty without it.
“Maeve…” I held my hand up and tried to ease up. “Don’t do—”
She swung out. The blade sliced through my thigh, and all that existed was pain. I clutched at my thigh and groaned. Black oozed from between my fingers, glittering like stars in the night.
“Oh, does that hurt? Poor little reaper. Maybe you should have picked someone else’s life to ruin. I could be happy right now! I could be alive. I could be in love. I didn’t get the chance to have any of that my first life. And you made sure I’d never have it again. You call me a bad person, Finn? What about you? You walk around like there’s a halo on your goddamned head, but you’re just as bad as me and we both know it.”
Fiktshun: She is the villain. But her story is definitely tragic. I was sympathetic toward her…. Well, maybe only just a teensy bit.
#6) I love every intimate moment with Cash and Emma, because these are the times we see how close they really are. And I love his vulnerability in this scene, showing how much he cares about her when he thinks he’s going to lose her.
“Don’t you dare die, Em.” Cash’s voice sounded like he’d been wrapped in cotton. “I mean it. I’ll follow you to the grave and kick your ghostly ass if you don’t stay with me.”
My eyes rolled around behind my eyelids. I couldn’t open them. Couldn’t make my lips move to tell him not to worry.
“Sir, we’re going to need you to back up,” a woman’s voice said. I felt pressure against my neck. So much pressure. A prick in my wrist. A plastic mask around my mouth. Then warm, familiar fingers laced through mine. Cash.
Fiktshun: Ah, Cash. Always with the sense of humor. That was my favorite quality about him. Though I loved his T-shirts, too!
#7) This was by far the hardest scene for me to write in the entire book. But it’s also one of my favorites.
Everyone’s version of Hell is different. Or so Easton tells me. Some burn in fire. Some die in ice. Most drown in their nightmares, or choke on twisted fears and mangled memories. Only one thing is certain here—whatever your poison, it’s sure to last an eternity.
Fiktshun: Oh wow. So awesome that your toughest scene is your favorite!
Thank you so very much for agreeing to stop by the blog to share seven of your favorite moments from your book INBETWEEN. A few of those were my favorite moments. And that intro to Easton topped my list, too.
They were the perfect teasers to make everyone want to find out just a little bit more. Like, just what happens to Emma? Will Cash have to follow her to the grave to kick her a** or is she okay? And when Maeve attacks Finn, is he the victor in that battle? And even if he is, will he be sent “south” for the part he played in what happened to Maeve?
Well, my lips are sealed. I, for one, will never tell. You’ll have to read it to find out. And to help you out with your burning curiosity, here’s that short excerpt I promised. It’s the scene where Anaya sees Cash for the very first time. And even this heavenly reaper isn’t immune to his charms.
I leaned my forehead against the brick. No. I couldn’t think like that. Thoughts like that were going to get me in trouble. Again.
The energy of another reaper sparked against my skin. I spun around. Along the side of the house, a glow sliced through the shadows. Anaya. A streak of moonlight caught her hair and tangled with her braids, making them shine.
I half expected her to blow around the house with the force of an atom bomb, ready to rip into me for being here. But she didn’t. She wasn’t even watching me. She was watching…Cash.
He waved to the car that had just dropped him off and stumbled around the house, tripping through the shadows. Anaya’s eyes followed him, almost longingly, until he climbed through his bedroom window and closed the blinds.
I stepped out of the shadows. “Anaya?”
She jerked her gaze from Cash’s window and blinked, as if she was waking up from a dream. “What?”
“Everything okay?” I asked hesitantly, watching the way her eyes flitted to Cash’s house again.
“Y-yes.” She sounded flustered. “Why wouldn’t it be? I was just…”
I waited, hoping with everything in me that I was wrong about what I’d just seen.
She scowled at me. “Don’t give me that look, Finn. You’re the one lurking around the human girl’s house in the middle of the night.”
“I’d hardly call it lurking.”
“Then what are you doing here?” She folded her arms across her chest. “I’m not stupid. You’re up to something.”
I glanced back at Emma’s house. At the flickering glow from the candles in her window. “I’m trying to remind myself why it’s a bad idea to go in there and talk to her. Why it’s a bad idea to go in there and do more than talk to her.”
“I’m not going to stand here and lecture you. I’m not Easton, and you don’t need a babysitter. You already know why it’s a bad idea.”
I knew it was a bad idea. But now that I’d gotten a taste of what touching and talking to Emma felt like, I didn’t know how much longer I could do this. Stay away from her. Pretend everything inside me wasn’t burning with the need for her to really know me. I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of my decision warm all of the hollow places inside. When I opened my eyes again, Anaya was shaking her head.
“You’re going to do it anyway, aren’t you?”
“Probably, but you were never here.” I said. “And if you were never here, then I didn’t see you looking at Cash like you wanted to doodle his name in your diary.”
I raised a brow and she stopped. She looked over her shoulder at Cash’s house and bit her lip. “His name is Cash?”
“Yeah,” I said. “And I don’t have to tell you why it’s a bad idea. Right?”
Anaya glanced down to the scythe beginning to glitter and glow in her leather belt. She wrapped her fingers around it and nodded. “Right.”
Fiktshun: All I can say is, “Hehe, poor Anaya!”
