Book Watch: Releasing This Week #116

Mar 17

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of March 19th-March 25th that I have pre-ordered.

Clockwork Princess

addtogoodreads

CLOCKWORK PRINCESS by Cassandra Clare will be released in the U.S. on March 19, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Margaret K. McElderry Books, the print edition is 592 pages.

CLOCKWORK PRINCESS is the third and final book in the author’s The Infernal Devices series.

Line_001

I am so unbelievably excited and incredibly sad that CLOCKWORK PRINCESS is releasing this week. I wish this series was a six-book series like The Mortal Instruments as I absolutely adore Tessa, Jem and Will and I don’t want their story to end so quickly.

But I cannot wait to find out just how it ends. Even if I will be utterly heartbroken when I reach that final page. I am just so curious as to what the dangers they’ll face will be, just who will survive and just who will be left with a broken heart.

I am also so curious to find out if my theory is correct, if what I’ve suspected is in fact true, and what it means for the characters if it is.

With all the “Will” name-drops in CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS and CITY OF LOST SOULS, I am more anxious than ever to see what his fate is. I am just so glad I don’t have much longer to wait.

And while I could go on and on about this amazing series, as I did spotlight it for my Book Watch post I will stop now. But I am so very tempted to click the link in that post to the chapter one excerpt which was recently revealed.

I suppose if my Kindle copy doesn’t download at Monday Midnight I will give in and click it. Because I really don’t think I’ll be able to wait much longer than that to start reading.

17 and Gone

addtogoodreads

17 & GONE by Nova Ren Suma will be released in the U.S. on March 21, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Dutton Juvenile, the print edition is 320 pages.

Line_001

I am so very excited to read 17 & GONE by Nova Ren Suma when it releases later this week. I absolutely loved her book IMAGINARY GIRLS and I cannot wait to read this story about the missing girls.

If it’s even half as haunting as that other book by the author, or written just as beautifully, I know I’ll be wowed.

I cannot wait to meet Lauren and find out why the missing girls are speaking to her. I cannot wait to discover just how she can help them. And I am hopeful that she is not next in line to go missing.

The description calls this book complex and rich and I am so glad to finally be able to dive into another one of this author’s amazing stories. One that I will definitely be taking a peek at when it downloads on Thursday and one I hope to be able to read very soon thereafter.

Pretty Girl 13

addtogoodreads

PRETTY GIRL-13 by Liz Coley will be released in the U.S. on March 19, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 352 pages.

Line_001

I traded for an early copy of PRETTY GIRL-13 but hadn’t had the chance to read it. But I am so thrilled that it’s releasing this week and I’ll have it happily residing on my Kindle on Tuesday.

I was intrigued by the title but was sold by the description which called this book “a disturbing and powerful psychological mystery.” I am very interested in meeting Angie and learning about how she uncovers the truth behind those missing three years of her life.

And I’m curious to find out whether she does accept the truth or tries to keep it buried, hidden by her “alters.”

While this book does sound incredibly dark and emotionally difficult, the description does talk of “courage, hope, and love” so I am eager to find out just how Angie copes with, and possibly overcomes, the horrors she’s had to endure.

I only have three books pre-ordered this week, at least I think I do. I suppose I’ll find out for sure on Tuesday like I did last week.

And the three books that are releasing this week are ones I’m so stoked to finally have in my hands. Well, technically, on my eReader, though I’m so very tempted to buy CLOCKWORK PRINCESS in print as that cover is all sorts of amazing.

While I don’t have FOX FOREVER pre-ordered I will be buying it eventually as I have the first two books in the series on my Kindle and I know I’ll want to complete my collection someday. Someday soon.

I’m just glad that these past two weeks have not put a huge dent in my wallet as I know that in the next couple of weeks I have more than a few books on order. And I’m trying so very, very hard not to overspend. But books are my greatest weakness.

Anyway…

I hope you are just as excited as I am for the final book in The Infernal Devices series. And if you have any other awesome books you’re dying to add to your collection this week that I don’t have listed I’d love to know.

Happy book buying and reading!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

My Reading Pile #105

Mar 16

As expected, I didn’t receive any new books in the mail this week. Well, at least as of Thursday, as I didn’t end up checking for Friday’s mail due to the terrible weather and the fact that I was much more interested in reading my current read than checking a mailbox which was likely very, very empty.

nobooks

Though I did receive the three SIGNED copies of A TOUCH MENACING by Leah Clifford that I had ordered back in February. But as I never share personally inscribed book pics here online I didn’t include a photo with this post.

And as the other two copies are for some very good blogger friends – Jaime of Two Chicks on Books and Alba of BookPics – I didn’t want to post images of their personally signed copies without consent. So no snaps.

Anyway, I’d already read A TOUCH MENACING and hope to post my review on Wednesday. If I can manage to redact all spoiler-y WTH just happened comments by then. That remains TBD.

And while I am behind on reading and reviews, I couldn’t resist adding a couple of new reads to the pile and so…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.
(March 17, 2013 – March 23, 2013)

05

The Eternity Cure

addtogoodreads

First up on the pile is THE ETERNITY CURE by Julie Kagawa. I kind of went off-pile this past week and finally read THE IMMORTAL RULES and I just had to read this next book in the series. I just had to continue Allie’s story. I just had to know what was going to happen with Kanin. And I’m so glad I have an eGalley from NetGalley courtesy of Harlequin Teen so that I don’t have to wait.

Even if reading it early means I’ll have to suffer a super long wait for the next book in the series… that is, if there is a next book in the series. I’m too terrified to find out this is only a duology and not a longer series.

But I cannot wait to read on and discover what this new strain of Red Lung virus means for both the humans and the vamps. And I am anxious to find out just what heartbreak Allie will have to face.

I am totally not ready to leave this gritty and seriously, seriously awesome world the author created. And as devastated as I know I’m going to be when this second book in the series comes to an end, I cannot resist adding it to the top of the pile this week.

Allison Sekemoto has vowed to rescue her creator, Kanin, who is being held hostage and tortured by the psychotic vampire Sarren. The call of blood leads her back to the beginning—New Covington and the Fringe, and a vampire prince who wants her dead yet may become her wary ally.

Even as Allie faces shocking revelations and heartbreak like she’s never known, a new strain of the Red Lung virus that decimated humanity is rising to threaten human and vampire alike.

Clockwork Princess
addtogoodreads

Next up on the pile is CLOCKWORK PRINCESS by Cassandra Clare. While it hasn’t released yet, as it is releasing on Tuesday, I will be ready and waiting for it to download so I can dive in and find out how the author concludes this amazing trilogy.

After having just read the most recent two books in the author’s The Mortal Instruments series, I am even more excited about diving into this series’ final book and finding out exactly what happens with Tessa, Jem and most especially Will Herondale.

The description mentions that “danger intensifies” and that there is a ticking clock and that “everyone must choose.” And it has left me utterly terrified about how these characters’ stories will end.

Even though I know I’m going to have my heart broken, even though I know it will be well over a year before the author’s other series will release its next and final story, I just have to know right now how The Infernal Devices will conclude. I have to discover it for myself. Before I happen upon any spoilers. Which means that I will be reading this just as soon after Midnight on Monday as it downloads to my Kindle.

Danger intensifies for the Shadowhunters as the New York Timesbestselling Infernal Devices trilogy comes to a close.

If the only way to save the world was to destroy what you loved most, would you do it?

The clock is ticking. Everyone must choose.

Passion. Power. Secrets. Enchantment.

Danger closes in around the Shadowhunters in the final installment of the bestselling Infernal Devices trilogy.

Line_001

Wishful Thinking Reads:

I don’t really have any wishful thinking reads except for all those books that had previously been left behind that I’m still dying to read. Books like UNBREAKABLE by Elizabeth Norris and INFATUATE by Aimee Agresti.

I am ever so hopeful I will be able to read them during my vacation-slash-staycation. But I suppose it all depends on just how lured in I am by those other books on the TBR pile.

Line_001

Those Left Behind:

Once again I went off pile for my reads… well, my one read… this past week. As I was still caught up in my “Supernatural” television marathon, I didn’t get much reading done. So the two books from last week are getting shifted to later this week after I’ve devoured the two books listed above. Which will not be left behind.

In last week’s reading pile post I mentioned just how tempted I was by THE IMMORTAL RULES. Well, I caved. I gave in to temptation. And I devoured that book last weekend. Yes, it was a long book. But it didn’t feel long. I blazed through it. Which is why THE ETERNITY CURE is at the top of the pile this week.

And as I’m completely caught up with “Supernatural” I have no reason not to read or write those long-overdue reviews for SPELLCASTER, MILA 2.0 and A TOUCH MENACING. At least two of which I hope to post this week. I’m just relieved that I finally finished and posted my review for PIVOT POINT, a book I read and love, love, loved, back in February.

Talk about a review dry spell.

And while I anticipate finishing at least three of the four books I plan on reading this week, depending on how much CLOCKWORK PRINCESS makes me sob, I have no idea how many of those books I’ll be reviewing this week.

That, as always, remains TBD.

Line_001

NetGalley Pile Adds & Finds:

When searching on NetGalley I fell in love with the cover for THE ROSE THRONE by Mette Ivie Harrison. And when I saw that it was a “Read Now” title, I just had to click that button to add it to my eReview pile.

The Rose Throne

THE ROSE THRONE by Mette Ivie Harrison (Egmont USA, May 14, 2013)

I actually did read the description and it does sound fascinating. But it was cover love that drew me to this title. And I am so excited to check it out some time next month to see if the story is as amazing as its cover.

Line_001

And while I didn’t find too many books on NetGalley this week, the ones I did find all look awesome…

THE DEEPEST NIGHT by Shana Abe (Random House, Aug 13, 2013)

DEAR CASSIE by Lisa Burstein (Entangled Teen, Mar 5, 2013)

SOME QUIET PLACE by Kelsey Sutton (Flux Books, Jul 8, 2013)

I really didn’t mean to add another title to my NetGalley review pile. Which is why I resisted the urge to request Shana Abe’s THE DEEPEST NIGHT. I still have the first book in that series on my TBR pile and so I didn’t want to get greedy by requesting book two before getting the chance to read book one. Besides, it is listed as one of the most requested titles on NetGalley so I’m not entirely hopeful I’d have been approved.

Even though DEAR CASSIE released on March 5th, it’s showing as recently added to NetGalley, so I included it here just in case.

And oh my gosh the cover for SOME QUIET PLACE is stunning and the description sounds wicked awesome. I just wish I was farther along with my eGalley review pile or I totally would have requested it this week.

04

I definitely am on track with the number of books read. In fact, I may be slightly ahead, even with my huge obsession with “Supernatural” getting in the way of my reading schedule. I just need to get a few more of those read books reviewed to be on track for 25 reads and reviews by the end of March. Try nine more reviews. Never gonna happen.

At the very least I hope to get close to that number. We shall see.

There are so many amazing books releasing week after week and so many titles that sound like they will be amazing that I have waiting for me to read. I just wish I had the kind of time to even tackle a small fraction of them. That is not my life.

Anyway…

I really want to dive into THE ETERNITY CURE and not wait for Sunday to start on this week’s pile. Maybe, just maybe, if I read that on Saturday I can sneak in that read of UNBREAKABLE before CLOCKWORK PRINCESS releases on Tuesday.

As always, I am ever hopeful. And as always, happy reading!

Book Watch: Clockwork Princess

Feb 27

Clockwork Princess

CLOCKWORK PRINCESS by Cassandra Clare will be released in the U.S. on March 19, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Margaret K. McElderry Books, the print edition is 592 pages.

CLOCKWORK PRINCESS is the third and final book in Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices series.

***

I originally thought it was going to be nearly impossible to choose the book to watch this week because there were two books slated for release on March 19th that I was dying to read. But it seems that release date – or at least availability – for one of the two has changed to the week of March 26th.

And since WITH ALL MY SOUL by Rachel Vincent will now be available one week later, there is absolutely no question in my mind that CLOCKWORK PRINCESS by Cassandra Clare is the book to watch for the week of March 19, 2013.

As heartbreaking as it will be for this spinoff series to come to an end, I cannot wait to see just what happens in this final installment. After having very recently read the previous two The Mortal Instruments books, in which Will Herondale’s name was dropped on at least a few occasions, I have been more excited than ever to read this next, and final, book in The Infernal Devices series.

I cannot wait to learn what’s really going on with Tessa and find out what happens to her at the end of this series. I cannot wait to see just how things end with the love triangle. And I cannot wait to revisit this world which is so elaborate, so gorgeous and so easy to fall in love with.

The description only provides the most torturous of hints at what can be expected. The only word that keeps jumping out at me is “danger.” So, of course I’m anxious about what will happen to some of my most favorite characters in YA. I’m nervous about just who might have to be destroyed to save the world. And I’m most definitely not ready for this series to end.

Especially with more than a year before the next installment in the author’s other series will be released.

With not a single clue about what will happen in CLOCKWORK PRINCESS, I can only imagine that at nearly six hundred pages it will be epic. I can only guess that I will get so swept up in this world that I won’t be able to put this book down until I reach the end. And I can only hope that I won’t be left in tears over the loss of a favorite character. Though I’m pretty sure no matter how this series ends, I will be in tears.

While there are a few books releasing the week of March 19th that I’m excited to read, I just had to put the spotlight on CLOCKWORK PRINCESS, a book that I’ve been dying to read since I got the chance to read CLOCKWORK PRINCE just a bit early last year.

And while I will be reading this book the day it releases, I just know it will be terribly hard to say goodbye to Will and Jem and Tessa when the story, and series, comes to a close.

I haven’t yet read it… I’ve been way too nervous to actually start reading it… but I will be taking a peek at the first chapter of CLOCKWORK PRINCESS which was just “unlocked” today.

Giveaway: City of Lost Souls Signed

May 11

I thought that the cover for City of Lost Souls looked amazing online, but the online picture did not do justice to it. It’s absolutely gorgeous IRL. The best cover yet.

And while this year Barnes & Noble didn’t seem to have the exclusive edition available to order signed, the author was signing a few copies at Books of Wonder in New York. So I just had to order a couple from them.

They also tossed in this swag pack – though only just the one – which may be pictures or postcards of the Shadow Hunters Family Rings. As I haven’t opened the sealed package, I can’t tell if they are postcards or just pictures. But instead of keeping them for myself, I’m giving them away along with the copy of this book shown above.

So anyway, onto the giveaway….

What’s up for grabs:

A hardcover copy of City of Lost Souls SIGNED by Cassandra Clare plus the unsigned swag shown above.

The deets:

1. One entry per person.

2. There will be ONE winner.

3. You must be 13 or older.

4. Giveaway is International.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #71

May 06

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of May 8th-May 14th that I have pre-ordered.

***

Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock will be released in the U.S. on May 8, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 416 pages.

Hemlock is the first book in a new trilogy by author Kahthleen Peacock. The second book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2013.

***

I can’t wait to read Hemlock. I haven’t read too many books about werewolves but this one sounds awesome. I love the idea that the author calls this a “syndrome” and that it’s as if it’s an epidemic that’s “on the rise.” And I absolutely love the fact that there is a murder mystery combined with the paranormal in this book.

I am dying to find out what secrets Mac uncovers in her quest to find Amy’s killer. I am curious to see who is responsible and if it’s a friend that was responsible or someone else.

While I instantly fell in love with the cover, it was the book’s mention of a “maelstrom of violence and betrayal” that made this a must read for me. While I did receive an early copy through a trade, I wasn’t able to add it to the pile before release date, but I will definitely be reading this in a couple of weeks, and most likely it will be the finished copy on my Kindle.

Until I Die by Amy Plum will be released in the U.S. on May 8, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both formats.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 368 pages.

Until I Die is the second book in the Revenants series by author Amy Plum. The third book in the series, If I Should Die, is slated for publication in 2013.

***

I have been dying to read Until I Die for weeks now. I can’t believe release date is on Tuesday and I’ll have the finished copy on my Kindle. I hope to have read – or at least started – it before then, though, because I’m so curious to find out what happens with the Revenants in this book.

Although, I hear that there’s a cliffhanger ending….

I am nervous about Kate and Vincent. I hope that their love story continues even though Vincent’s responsibilities are making that seem impossible. And I am even more nervous about this new enemy that the description mentions. I can’t imagine who it could be and what they could possibly do to jeopardize Vincent’s immortality.

I also can’t wait to catch up with Jules who is one of my favorite characters in this series. I miss his charming, flirtatious behavior and hope he hasn’t changed at all in this sequel.

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare will be released in the U.S. on May 8, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Margaret K. McElderry Books, the print edition is 544 pages.

City of Lost Souls is the fifth book in The Mortal Instruments series by author Cassandra Clare. The sixth book in the series, City of Heavenly Fire is slated for release in 2014.

***

Of all the books in this series, City of Lost Souls has my favorite cover. And the title has me unbelievably curious about where this series is headed. I can’t believe it’s May already and that my Kindle copy will be downloading on Tuesday and my signed copy will be arriving this week.

While I haven’t finished reading City of Fallen Angels, I am still excited for this book’s release. Although I may wait a bit to read it, as there will be a nearly two-and-a-half year wait for the next book in the series. Which I’m guessing is because of the film’s release.

As I’ve already spotlighted City of Lost Souls for my Book Watch post, I’ll keep this brief. But the characters the author created in this series are some of my very favorites. And I miss knowing just what has been happening with Clary and Jace, although I did accidentally read a spoiler in CoLS’ description so I know some of what happened. But not firsthand.

I have not read the entire description because I don’t want to have any more of CoFA spoiled, but I hope that things don’t get much worse in this fifth book in the series for Jace, or Clary for that matter.

First Comes Love by Katie Kacvinsky will be released in the U.S. on May 8, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, the print edition is 208 pages.

***

I read Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky last year and it was amazing. So when I heard that she had a new release title coming out I just had to pre-order a copy.

This story sounds like it will either be bittersweet or heartbreaking. And it sounds like it will be a very realistic love story and not one that has been glamorized, romanticized or dramatized.

I love the character’s names – Gray and Dylan – and I love that they are opposites and that their love wasn’t insta-love and that their relationship is hard work. Of course I hope for a happy ending for them, but I think I’d be just as satisfied if it doesn’t end happily. But I can’t wait to find out…. And possibly shed a few tears.

Endure by Carrie Jones will be released in the U.S. on May 8, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Bloomsbury USA Children’s Books, the print edition is 272 pages.

Endure is the fourth and final book in Carrie Jones’ Need series.

***

I have Endure on my reading pile this week and I can’t wait to read it. Sort of. I love, love, love this series and I’m heartbroken it’s ending. But the description does say the “romantic finale” will be “utterly satisfying” so I hope I’ll be left with a smile.

I already miss Zara and Nick. I’m so curious to see whether she can lead an army against the evil pixies to defend Bedford. I’m hopeful the battle will be successful. I’m dying to find out what the surprise revelation is and I really want to know what happens with the pixie king.

I wanted to read this earlier, but I’d just read Destined and so I didn’t want to suffer two series-ending books in such close proximity. But I think I’m ready now. And for this one there may be tears.

I have the entire series on my Kindle and I can’t wait for this final book to download on Monday Midnight so that I can complete my collection.

***

UPDATE: I can’t believe I didn’t list one of my MOST anticipated reads I was just talking about last night!

Last Rite by Lisa Desrochers will be released in the U.S. on May 8, 2012 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Tor Teen, the print edition is 368 pages.

Last Rite is the third and final book in the Personal Demons series by author Lisa Desrochers.

***

I am so devastated that I didn’t have Last Rite pre-ordered until now and didn’t list it in this post. It was only thanks to a tweet from Pam at Bookalicious that I was made aware of its release this week. I had been checking on it for ages, but it hadn’t been available in eBook format until more recently and I’ve just been too busy to check for new releases.

I am so excited for this book’s release. Excited and sad. I can’t wait to see what happens with Frannie and Luc and Gabe. I am hoping things end happily. But when demons are involved I am never confident of that happening. But I am sad to see this series end. I could definitely have used a few more books about these characters and this world.

I don’t know which side Frannie will choose, so that of course makes me nervous. And I don’t know what happens with Frannie’s powers. According to the description they go “horribly awry.” Which makes me even more nervous. As the term “apocalyptic” is used, I can only imagine that things go epically wrong.

But what makes me the most nervous is that apparently someone won’t be able to trust the ones they love. And I really, really am hoping that it’s not Luc that gets hurt in the process. I think I know who might be untrustworthy, but I won’t guess here as it’s a spoiler for Original Sin.

I will definitely be reading this book next week if I don’t get a chance to read it sooner. While I know I’ll miss the characters, there’s no way I can wait to find out what happens.

Okay. This wasn’t such a bad week. I believe I only have five books pre-ordered to download. That’s half the books from last week. Though I haven’t read any of the books this week, so they’re all going straight to the TBR.

I’m glad that things will be slowing down a bit over the next month – I think – so that I can try to catch up on just a few “must read” titles. And I’m still thinking of a book buying ban, though I’m having a tough time imagining saying “no.”

Anyway, I hope I didn’t miss any release titles that I have ordered or ones I should have had ordered. I guess I’ll find out on Tuesday. Happy book buying!
