The Extras: August

Yes we’re back with this month’s “Extras” post. As some of you may already know…

Whenever I find either a legal free download, an excerpt or sneak peek of a book online, I try to link to it in a related post or include the link in my sidebar (to your right).

But once a month I’ll pop them into a post for a “one-stop shop” with a brief description. You may have previously seen some of these in my sidebar and one or two may still be lingering, well here they are once more in case you missed them. (My sidebar tends to have a LOT of info.)

We have a few peeks at upcoming releases, just released books and some of them are just items that have been offered for free for awhile but you might have missed.

And yes, I know it’s not August yet, but it’s a monthly post that I do around this time each month in anticipation. Besides, wouldn’t you rather read the excerpts before the books are released? I know I would.

***

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake will be released in the U.S. on August 30, 2011.

This story sounds just as cool and creepy as its cover. A boy who hunts and kills the dead ends up in a town where a ghost, Anna Dressed in Blood, has been murdering everyone who enters her home, except him.

Anna was murdered and still wears the dress she was killed in, but now it’s covered in blood. Definitely creepy.

The publisher, Tor, is giving readers a look inside, HERE.

Hades by Alexandra Adornetto will be released in the U.S. on August 30, 2011.

Hades is the sequel to Halo which was released last year and it continues Gabriel, Ivy and Bethany’s story. In this installment, Bethany gets tricked into taking a motorcycle ride into Hell and if she wants to be freed she has to agree to a bargain that may just not be worth it.

The description is very mysterious and cryptic, but perhaps the excerpt can shed some light as to what we can expect.

The publisher, Feiwel and Friends, a division of Macmillan, is giving readers a long look, HERE.

Twisted by Gena Showalter will be released in the U.S. on August 30, 2011.

Twisted is the third book in the Intertwined series. And from the description things just keep getting worse for Aden Stone. With everything that has happened to him over the course of the past two books he now has a darkness within him that just keeps growing.

It doesn’t sound like things are going to end on a happy note at this book’s conclusion.

The author is giving readers a peek at Twisted on her website, HERE.

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead will be released in the U.S. on August 23, 2011.

This book, set in the same world as the Vampire Academy series, is about Sydney – yay – and Jill Dragomir and takes place at a human school in Palm Springs, California.

And according to the description some of the characters we’ve known from the series will make an appearance in this book.

Penguin Young Readers is offering a look at the first chapter of Bloodlines, via Scribd, HERE.

Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011.

The description promises flirting and fun for Elise and sounds like it might be a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice. Set at a prep school in Los Angeles, Elise is the principal’s daughter, the hot boy is Derek Edwards, and to round out this love triangle is the sexy outcast, Webster Grant.

Epic Fail sounds like it just might be an win.

HarperTeen is giving readers a nice long look inside, HERE.

Never Have I Ever by Sara Shepard will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011.

It is the second book in The Lying Game series. Emma is still trying to solve her twin sister’s murder. The sister she never knew she had. She is living as her sister while trying to uncover who the killer could be. In this sequel there are even more suspects and Emma is in even more danger.

HarperTeen is giving readers a super long look inside, HERE.

Eternal by Gillian Shields will be released in the U.S. on August 2, 2011.

Eternal is the third book in the Immortals series. This installment is about Sarah Fitzalan who is fighting to keep the sisterhood together and prepare for an attack by the dark coven. Everything is up in the air as Evie and Helen aren’t as dedicated to the sisterhood as they once were, possibly leaving Sarah on her own to fight for them all.

HarperTeen is giving readers a peek at Eternal, HERE.

Supernaturally by Kiersten White will be released in the U.S. on July 26, 2011.

Supernaturally is the second book in the Paranormalcy series. Evie is trying to fit into the normal world with limited success. She decides to do some work with IPCA, but things keep going wrong. And no matter how hard she tries, she can’t seem to avoid Reth, who tells her something about her past that is completely shocking.

Once again HarperTeen is giving readers a long look, HERE.

And for one more chance to take a peek, here are a few books that are available now.

Nightspell by Leah Cypess was released in the U.S. on May 31, 2011.

It is a standalone companion book to Mistwood. Darri heads to Ghostland to rescue her sister but in order to do so she must face a number of obstacles, including a “handsome ghost prince.” And she will be forced to make a decision that will threaten the “balance of power between the living and the dead.” Sounds like a pretty epic journey.

Yet another peek inside by the awesome HarperTeen, HERE.

Dead Rules by Randy Russell was released in the U.S. on June 21, 2011.

Jana Webster thought she’d be with Michael Haynes forever. But when she turns up in Dead School alone and it doesn’t seem Michael’s in any rush to join her, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Because if they can’t be together in life, they may as well be together in death. It’s what Romeo and Juliet did, after all.

HarperTeen is giving readers a peek inside, HERE. This is definitely a book worth checking out. But, as I’ve said before, be warned because once you start reading you will won’t be satisfied with just the excerpt.

Immortal by Gillian Shields was released in the U.S. on August 4, 2009.

Evie Johnson is forced to attend the Wyldcliffe Abbey School for Young Ladies. She is lonely and having a difficult time fitting into life at the school until she meets Sebastian. But he is keeping secrets about his past, and as the story unfolds she learns things about Sebastian and about herself that she never could have imagined.

HarperTeen is giving readers a chance to take a look at the entire book in anticipation of Eternal’s release, HERE.

I haven’t read all of these books, but I have read a few of them. And I managed to stay strong and not check out any of the excerpts. I plan on buying all of the upcoming books without a peek, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to take a long look inside before making a purchase.

So, I’ve included them here for your reading pleasure. Happy reading!
