Book Watch: Releasing This Week #127

Jun 04

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of June 4th-June 10th that I have pre-ordered.

Elegy

addtogoodreads

ELEGY by Tara Hudson releases in the U.S. today, June 4, 2013, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 400 pages.

ELEGY is the third and final book in author Tara Hudson’s Hereafter trilogy.

Line_001

I’m both happy and sad that ELEGY is releasing this week. I have been waiting for its release to get caught up on the series. But now that it has, I’m not sure I’m ready for it to end.

I did end up reading the description – I couldn’t help myself – and it makes me nervous that maybe Amelia and Joshua won’t get their happily ever afterlife after all. The description mentions “impossible choices” and fighting back, so I’m still going to hold out hope for them both.

I adored the first book in this series, I thought there was a sweetness to it, an innocence, and I cannot wait to find out how this series ends… well, just as soon as I’m able to make myself say goodbye, that is.

Phoenix

addtogoodreads

PHOENIX by Elizabeth Richards releases in the U.S. today, June 4, 2013, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition is 368 pages.

PHOENIX is the second book in author Elizabeth Richards’ Black City trilogy. The third and final book, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2014.

Line_001

I only recently read BLACK CITY and I loved the world the author created with the Darklings and Purian Rose. And I loved that the story switched POVs between Ash and Natalie.

I’d hoped to read PHOENIX before its release, but wasn’t able to, but I will definitely be reading it this week. Because I really want to know what happens after that shocking finish to book one.

The description promises an even darker book than the first. And things in the United Sentry States definitely seem to have gotten more chaotic. But what makes me the most anxious is that it talks of a heartbreaking love story.

So, of course, I cannot wait to read this middle book in the trilogy.

div1

The Elementals

addtogoodreads

THE ELEMENTALS by Saundra Mitchell releases in the U.S. today, June 4, 2013, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harcourt Children’s Books, the print edition is 304 pages.

THE ELEMENTALS is the third book in author Saundra Mitchell’s The Vespertine series.

Line_001

I loved Saundra Mitchell’s THE VESPERTINE. And while I am not quite caught up on this series there is no way I wouldn’t add THE ELEMENTALS to my collection this week.

I love how each book in this series involves a new main character. And I cannot wait to meet Kate Witherspoon in this book… and Julian Birch.

I’m curious to see exactly what their powers entail and how they manage to “triumph over death, and over time.” And I’m even more curious to find out what price they’ll have to pay.

div1

The Testing

addtogoodreads

THE TESTING by Joelle Charbonneau releases in the U.S. today, June 4, 2013, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, the print edition is 352 pages.

THE TESTING is the first book in author Joelle Charbonneau’s new series of the same name. The second book in the series, INDEPENDENT STUDY, is slated for release on January 7, 2014. A prequel novella, THE TESTING GUIDE, was released in April.

Line_001

I hadn’t heard of THE TESTING until Jaime of Two Chicks on Books told me I had to read it and that it was a must read book. As I hadn’t had an early copy I took her advice and pre-ordered it without actually having read the description.

But now that I have I’m super excited to own it and even more excited to read it. I love the idea that in this future friends could just as easily be enemies and that the planet is a “charred wasteland.”

I love that there are a “chosen few” who must pass a test in order to have the chance at a promising future but that this test might have a darker side. And I can’t wait to meet Cia and Tomas and find out whether Cia chooses “love without truth or life without trust.”

I am now so intrigued by this description I might just have to try and sneak it in later this week.

div1

Siege and Storm

addtogoodreads

SIEGE AND STORM by Leigh Bardugo releases in the U.S. today, June 4, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Henry Holt and Co. Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 448 pages.

SIEGE AND STORM is the second full-length book in author Leigh Bardugo’s The Grisha series. The third book, RUIN AND RISING, is slated for release in 2014. There are currently three novellas in this series: THE WITCH OF DUVA, THE TAILOR and THE TOO-CLEVER FOX.

Line_001

I have heard nothing but amazing things about this series. I even had my hands on an early copy of SIEGE AND STORM due to a trade but passed it on when I knew I wouldn’t get to read the first book in the series before its release.

But I definitely plan on reading this series – I own book one already – so I just had to purchase this second book in the series for when I do get the chance to dive in.

This series sounds epic and a bit different from many of the books I typically read. But I am so very curious to meet Alina and Mal and see what being a Sun Summoner means and just what Alina’s destiny is.

The description mentions a choice between country, power and love and I can’t wait to find out which one Alina chooses in this second book.

div1

Tidal

addtogoodreads

TIDAL by Amanda Hocking releases in the U.S. today, June 4, 2013, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 352 pages.

TIDAL is the third book in author Amanda Hocking’s Watersong series. The fourth and final full-length book, ELEGY, is slated for release on August 6, 2013.

Line_001

I am super stoked that TIDAL releases today. I had it pre-ordered for my Kindle but I can’t wait for the print edition to be delivered so that it can join the first two books on my book towers.

I already rambled on quite a bit in my Book Watch post the other week, so I won’t go on and on here. This post is long enough already. But I will just say it sounds like things for Gemma are getting even more dangerous and dire so I can’t wait to find out what happens.

Though I may read it closer to the release of ELEGY this August, so I won’t have to suffer from a potential cliffhanger ending.

And I just have to add that this is my favorite cover of the series so far. It seems so much darker than its predecessors, which makes me just a little bit nervous about the direction of this third book.

div1

The Keep

addtogoodreads

THE KEEP by Veronica Wolff releases in the U.S. today, June 4, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by NAL Trade, the print edition is 336 pages.

THE KEEP is the fourth book in author Veronica Wolff’s The Watchers series.

Line_001

I only recently learned that THE KEEP was releasing this week so I ran to Amazon to pre-order it for my Kindle. I am majorly behind on this series but I own every single book and definitely plan on reading them all in a marathon read one of these days.

While I’m not caught up on this series I have read each and every one of the descriptions – I just couldn’t help myself – and I can’t wait to read this installment. It talks of vengeance, deceits and a castle from which the living don’t return.

It also mentions that there may be someone else out for revenge other than Drew. Someone after her.

div1

Abandon

addtogoodreads

ABANDON by Elana Johnson releases in the U.S. today, June 4, 2013, in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 464 pages.

ABANDON is the third book in author Elana Johnson’s Possession series.

Line_001

I have not yet met Vi, Jag and Zenn but I own all the books in this series and I’m so excited to meet them all now that ABANDON has released. And having read the description for this third book in the series, I think it may be the most exciting one yet.

I’m so very curious who the traitor is and if his choices bring about the “total destruction” of what Vi has fought for. And I’m super curious to see if Vi, Jag and Zenn are able to work together to help the Resistance.

I seriously love the first three lines of the description. If I hadn’t been sold on this series already, they would have won me over. And they make me even more anxious to read each book and find out whether Vi, Jag and Zenn are successful or if their efforts end in failure.

div1

Soul Taken

addtogoodreads

SOUL TAKEN by Katlyn Duncan releases in the U.S. today, June 4, 2013, in eBook format only. It is currently available to order online in eBook format at AMAZON.

The eBook is published by Carina.

SOUL TAKEN is the first book in author Katlyn Duncan’s The Life After trilogy.

Line_001

I very recently learned of SOUL TAKEN by Katlyn Duncan. But with its amazing cover and interesting premise I just had to pre-order it for my Kindle. And I’m super excited to read it.

Even though it’s the first book in the series, because it’s releasing in eBook format only, I won’t have to wait ages for the next installment. Which makes me very, very happy. Because I do not love waiting.

However, I do love the idea that Maggie is a Soul Collector who gets caught in the body of a “mean girl.” I am super curious to see just what life will be like for her in the human world, whether she’ll be able to save the girl’s soul and whether she’ll be able to free her own.

This week is more than insane with the number of books releasing. I am not going to say much here as I think I’ve already said more than enough already. But I’m super excited to read Richelle Mead’s new novel and check out Susan Dennard’s eNovella, both of which I pre-ordered.

And I’m likely going to end up purchasing Sarah Dessen’s THE MOON AND MORE, Avery Williams’ THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF TOMORROW and Jennifer Castle’s YOU LOOK DIFFERENT IN REAL LIFE.

Though I’m glad I didn’t pre-order them or I would never have finished putting together this post. And I’m not sure my Kindle could have handled all the downloads if I had. It was struggling enough when my books started downloading last night. But I’m one second away from clicking the links to buy those titles right now.

I am hopeful I didn’t miss anything releasing this week. Amazon has been a little sketchy lately and I’m not sure I caught every title. But I didn’t forget any of the ones I had pre-ordered… at least I think I didn’t.

But if there are a few awesome books releasing this week that I missed or ones that I did find that you can’t wait to read, I’d love know.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Tidal

WatchBOOK-2

TIDAL by Amanda Hocking will be released in the U.S. on June 4, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats.

It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 352 pages.

TIDAL is the third book in author Amanda Hocking’s Watersong series. The fourth and final full-length book, ELEGY, is slated for release on August 6, 2013.

div1

There are so many super awesome books releasing the week of June 4th. Quite a few of them are ones I’ve been just dying to read for ages. Others are part of a series that I’m just desperate to start… or get caught up on. But when I saw that TIDAL by Amanda Hocking was releasing, there was no doubt in my mind which book I wanted to put in the spotlight this week.

I love the imaginative way Amanda Hocking tells a story. I love the way her series don’t tend to follow convention. And I love that she always manages to find a different way of approaching the paranormal elements in her stories, whether they’re about vampires, zombies, trolls or sirens.

While I have a bit of catching up to do in the Watersong series – I’ve only read the first book in the series – falling behind was very much intentional. I wanted to be able to continue the story and not have to wait for each subsequent book’s release.

But after having read the description for TIDAL – yes I caved – I don’t think I’ll be able to wait for ELEGY’s release in August before I dive in. I want to uncover Gemma’s enemies dark secrets. And I want to see whether she’ll be able to break the curse.

The description mentions that she’s in “grave danger,” which makes me very nervous. And the fact that this cover is much darker and edgier than the previous covers gives me every reason to believe this third book in the series will take a very dark turn.

So while I am excited for the release of each of the books I’ve listed below, there is no book I’m more anxious for the release of the week of June 4th than TIDAL, this third of four installments in the author’s Watersong series.

Giveaway: Wake + Lullaby SIGNED & a pre-order of Tidal

giveaway

As one or two of you may already know, I am a huge fan of author Amanda Hocking. She’s been such an inspiration to not only self-published authors but to me. If it weren’t for her taking a chance on me way back in 2010 I wouldn’t be blogging today.

That’s right, she is the sole reason Fiktshun became a book blog. If it weren’t for the opportunity to beta read her book TORN, I wouldn’t be the happy blogger I am today. But I owe her so much more than just that. I spent countless hours caught up the worlds she created in her stories long before I became a blogger. And her stories gave me a much needed escape from a bunch of real life stuff that was taking me down.

They always say there’s a catalyst. Well she was mine. And she changed my life. And I cannot thank her enough.

So as you might guess, I am so unbelievably excited to be able to host a giveaway for signed copies of the first two books in her Watersong Series - WAKE and LULLABY + a pre-order of the third book in this awesome series, TIDAL.

Not only do I have one set of these books for giveaway, I have FIVE thanks to this very amazing author who sent me all these lovely signed books to share with my blog’s readers. And as TIDAL, is releasing on June 4th, I decided to add in pre-order for that book, too. Though it will be unsigned.

Yes, there are ten sets of WAKE and LULLABY in both paperback and hardcover format. But as I’m not greedy… okay, not that greedy… I decided to share the giveaway love with a few of my favorite bloggers – Jaime of Two Chicks on Books, Rachel of Parajunkee’s View and Mindy of Magical Urban Fantasy Reads – who will each be hosting a giveaway at some point in the near future for five sets of the books on their blogs.

So be sure to stop by each of their blogs in the next couple of weeks for more chances to win.

Wake Cover

About WAKE (Watersong #1)

Fall under the spell of Wake—the first book in an achingly beautiful new series by celebrated author Amanda Hocking—and lose yourself to the Watersong.

Gorgeous. Fearless. Dangerous. They’re the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Lexi and Thea have caught everyone’s attention—but it’s Gemma who’s attracted theirs. She’s the one they’ve chosen to be part of their group.

Gemma seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door. He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now there’s no going back. Then one night, Gemma’s ordinary life changes forever. She’s taking a late night swim under the stars when she finds Penn, Lexi and Thea partying on the cove. They invite her to join them, and the next morning she wakes up on the beach feeling groggy and sick, knowing something is different.

Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

Lullaby

About LULLABY (Watersong #2)

Harper only wanted a safe, normal life. But when her younger sister Gemma runs off with a dangerous clique of beautiful girls, Penn, Thea, and Lexi, everything changes. Vowing to get her sister back no matter what the cost, Harper must face dangers unlike any she’s ever experienced. Fortunately, she has Daniel by her side, a gorgeous guy who’s devoted to helping her find her sister—and who’s immune to the girls’ dark powers.

While Harper searches for her sister, Gemma struggles to adjust to her new life. Gemma’s powers are growing by the day, and the longer she lives with her new “sisters,” the harder it is to resist entering their magical world. It’s a realm both dark and beautiful, and where she’s plagued by strange hungers and unspeakable needs. Just as she’s drifting far away from her old life, Harper and Daniel find her…but no one can deny how much she’s changed. All she wants is to return to her family and the mortal world, but how can she do that when she’s become something else entirely—and will they still love her once they learn the truth?

Prepare to fall under the spell of Lullaby, the second book in the Watersong series from New York Times bestselling author Amanda Hocking.

The topic for today is…

Best Book Covers of 2012

This time I’m glad it’s only for books released in 2012, because there are some amazing 2013 covers that I love, love, love including…

Mary Lindsey’s ASHES ON THE WAVES, Amanda Hocking’s TIDAL, Karsten Knight’s AFTERGLOW, Bethany Griffin’s DANCE OF THE RED DEATH, Brodi Ashton’s EVERBOUND, Courtney Allison Moulton’s SHADOWS IN THE SILENCE, Scott Tracey’s PHANTOM EYES, Kimberly Derting’s THE ESSENCE, A.G. Howard’s SPLINTERED, Cassandra Clare’s CLOCKWORK PRINCESS…

Yeah, 2013 is going to be impossible… unless that IS my 2013 list….

Last year I had the most challenging time choosing just ten covers for my Top 10 Book Covers of 2011. This year it was even worse, so I did include a small gallery of other favorites. But seriously, that’s not cheating!

Once again my favorite covers seem to be those with ladies in them. But this year it’s not all about the dress.

MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH has just the most gorgeous colors, textures and fonts.

VESSEL is just stunning. I have no other words.

BORN WICKED has just this warm old-fashioned elegance.

ARISE has wonderfully rich, dark and beautiful colors.

TIMEPIECE is so creative and different and eye-catching.

ILLUMINATE has wings and a gilded elegance.

GRAVE MERCY has a crossbow which I didn’t see the first hundred times I looked at the cover.

And LULLABY has such vivid and lively colors.

So what if I’m totally enchanted by SOUL SCREAMERS VOLUME TWO and EVERNEATH because of the dresses and the wispy delicate feel to those dresses. They’re beautiful.

Tomorrow’s topic is YOUR CHOICE. Whether it be villains or love triangles or books with your favorite quotes, it’s up to you. And while I totally wanted to pick villains again, many of my villains have turned into book boyfriends… don’t ask… please.

I also would have loved to do a post of books with my favorite passages, but many of those books are 2013 reads or secret books. So I chose … nope, I won’t reveal that here. You’ll have to tune in tomorrow to find out what MY CHOICE will be.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #100

Nov 25

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of November 27th-December 3rd that I have pre-ordered.

Before I start rambling about the three amazing books I have on order this week, I just want to say that I can’t believe this is the 100th Releasing This Week post I’ve done. While I’ve done quite a few more “Book Watch” posts than that, they haven’t been numbered, so I can pretend there were just a few.

But being in the triple digits here on the blog is a bit of a shock. Because I can’t imagine the number of books I’d have to have purchased if this were to ever reach the 1,000th Book Watch RTW post. Or the number of other posts and reviews I’ll have to have done to reach that mile-marker. Yikes!

Anyway….

THE LUCKY ONES by Anna Godbersen will be released in the U.S. on November 27, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 384 pages.

THE LUCKY ONES is the third book in the author’s Bright Young Things series.

***

I have not yet read the first book in the series and yet I just had to pre-order THE LUCKY ONES. I love the 1920s setting for this series and I’m just dying to finally pick each book up and get lost in the Roaring Twenties.

In this latest installment, the new “it girl” is Cordelia Grey, the daughter of a bootlegger. And according to the description her romance with “celebrity pilot” Max Darby seems to be quite the scandal.

Both Letty Larkspur and Astrid Donal are also major players in this book. But I don’t want to read that part of the description that talks about just what has happened with them since I haven’t read the first two books in this series.

I love this time period in American history and I can’t wait to see what life is like in the author’s version of this era. I can only imagine that life in White Cove will be intriguing, scandalous and decadent. But I’ll have to move all three books to the top of the pile to be sure.

With the upcoming version of the film The Great Gatsby soon-ish to hit the big screen, I am more tempted than ever to dive into these books and see just what life is like for these Bright Young Things.

LULLABY by Amanda Hocking will be released in the U.S. on November 27, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 304 pages.

LULLABY is the second book in author Amanda Hocking’s Watersong quadrilogy. The third book, TIDAL, is slated for release on April 16, 2013 and the fourth and final book in the series, ELEGY, is also scheduled for release in 2013.

I am so glad that the release date for LULLABY is finally right around the corner. While the wait hasn’t been as long as it is for some books, I have been dying to find out just what happens to Gemma in this next installment in the series.

As I have already gone on… and on… and on… in my Book Watch post earlier this month, I will try to keep things brief and spoiler-free, but I am so curious as to what is going to happen next. Especially after the way things ended.

When I first sat down to read WAKE I did not expect there to be multiple POVs, but I loved getting to see things from Harper’s perspective. And I’m even more curious about what she’ll have to face in this second book. The description mentions “dangers unlike any she’s ever experienced” which makes me rather anxious for her safety.

Whenever I read anything by author Amanda Hocking I am always prepared for the unexpected. Well, as prepared as I can be, anyway. So I’m excited to see what kind of surprises she has in store for me in this book with its gorgeous cover.

I can’t wait to read more about these “dark powers” that are hinted at, and to be spellbound as the description promises. I hope that things do not end on too much of a cliff since the next book in the series won’t be out until April. But I’m sure I’ll find out in the next couple of weeks when I get this book on top of the pile.

ELIXIR by Jennifer L. Armentrout will be released in the U.S. on November 27, 2012 in paperback format. (The eBook edition was released on November 22, 2012.) The paperback is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble and the eBook is available to purchase now.

Published by Spencer Hill Press, the print edition is 80 pages.

ELIXIR is a novella in the Covenant series that  falls between books three and four. The fourth book in the series, APOLLYON, is slated for release on April 9, 2013 and the fifth book, SENTINEL, will be coming in January 2014.

***

I am just a wee bit behind on this series. I’m not entirely sure how that happened. But with five books and this new novella, ELIXIR, planned, I have just a little bit of time to catch up.

Of course I bought the eBook of ELIXIR for my Kindle collection, but I’m thinking of purchasing the print edition as I have all its predecessors in print. And I really cannot wait to read this short installment. Especially because it’s told from Aiden St. Delphi’s perspective – one of my favorite heroes in YA fiction.

But it does mean I’ll have to catch up on the rest of the series first… and it might just mean a re-read of HALF-BLOOD and DAIMON, too. Which is totally fine by me. Because I am dying to get back into this world of half-bloods and the gods. And any world with Aiden St. Delphi is an absolutely wonderful world to be in.

Jennifer Armentrout is one of my favorite YA authors and I cannot wait to get the chance to move ELIXIR to the top of the pile.

It’s another relatively quiet week for YA releases, but I have a few non-YA books on order that I’m dying to read. So my TBR pile is definitely growing this week.

I only just learned of TOUCHED by Corrine Jackson yesterday, but I think that is also a book I’ll be purchasing this week. I did end up buying her previously released YA contemp when Jaime pointed it out to me and I definitely plan on reading that in the next month or two.

I hope some day soon to get caught up with the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne because that series looks wicked awesome. But in the meantime I think I will be reading SHADOW’S CLAIM by Kresley Cole as she’s become my latest addiction in After Dark fiction.

I am trying so very hard to stay away from too many impulse buy books. But with so many amazing books releasing each week, it’s really, really hard to do.

Anyway…

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
