Book Watch: Releasing This Week #106

Jan 06

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of January 8-January 14th that I have pre-ordered.

05

Just One Day

JUST ONE DAY by Gayle Forman will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Dutton Juvenile, the print edition is 320 pages.

JUST ONE DAY is the first book in author Gayle Forman’s new two-book series of the same name. The second and final book in the series, JUST ONE YEAR, is also slated for release in 2013.

***

It has been so long since I read a book by Gayle Foreman. As one of my most favorite contemporary authors I am so unbelievably thrilled that JUST ONE YEAR will be downloading to my Kindle this week.

I am both anxious and excited to meet Lulu, to go on that journey with her over the course of the year as she looks for answers about her life and looks to find her “almost-true-love.” The description calls this a “breathtaking journey” and promises to be “sweepingly romantic.” And I cannot wait.

I am hopeful this story, and two-book series, will be every bit as gorgeous and beautifully written as If I Stay and Where She Went. But I am also nervously hopeful that this will be more of a love story with a happy ending than the heartbreaking tragedy that befell the main character and her family in that other “duet of novels.”

I may end up taking a peek and then find that I will not be able to put this down a bit later this week. Because this author’s writing is just that impossible to step away from once you’ve begun reading. At least it is for me.

But if I don’t get the chance to take a look this week, then I will definitely be diving in next week. JUST ONE YEAR is not just a must read, but a must read now.

Through the Ever Night

THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT by Veronica Rossi will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 352 pages.

THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT is the second full-length book in author Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky series. The third book in the series, INTO THE STILL BLUE, is expected in 2014.

***

One of my saddest bookish moments of 2012 was the fact that I did not get to devour UNDER THE NEVER SKY. I will be reading it this year. In the very near future, actually. But I would have loved to have read it already so I could devour book two immediately upon its release.

While I haven’t yet read book one, I did buy the novella recently and THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT will be downloading on my Kindle on Tuesday. So, all three stories will be ready to read the moment I can squeeze them in this winter.

I did make the mistake of taking a peek at the description and now I’m trying desperately to forget what I read about Perry and Aria. Well, everything except for the fact that this book promises to be a “captivating love story” that is “as perilous as it is unforgettable.”

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can start reading the first book in the series at the end of this month so I can read this sequel immediately thereafter. I have heard nothing but amazing things about this author and this series and I cannot wait to finally discover that for myself.

Crash

CRASH by Lisa McMann will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 256 pages.

CRASH is the first book in Lisa McMann’s Visions series. The second book, BANG, is slated for release on October 8, 2013.

***

I cannot believe that Lisa McMann’s CRASH is releasing this week and will be living on my Kindle in just a matter of days. It seemed like only yesterday I was spotlighting it for my Book Watch post and in just a few days it will be mine, mine all  mine.

Mine to devour. Mine to love. Mine to have forever and ever.

And, as always, I won’t ramble on too much about this book – again – but I cannot wait to meet Jules and see just what she does to” keep her vision from becoming reality.” And I am so excited to finally have another series by this author to devour over the next few years.

The author’s WAKE trilogy is one that is still so memorable and CRYER’S CROSS is and will forever be a favorite. So I’m really hoping to sneak this one in next week, although I’m listening to DEAD TO YOU in audiobook format right now. So maybe this will have to wait just a bit longer…. or not.

Timekeeper

TIMEKEEPER by Alexandra Monir will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Delacorte Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 288 pages.

TIMEKEEPER is the second full-length book in Alexandra Monir’s Timeless series.

***

I own but still have yet to read TIMELESS. But I am super excited this sequel will be downloading on Tuesday to my Kindle. Because I think these books will be perfect to read back-to-back with no wait between them.

I totally took a peek at the description for TIMEKEEPER and while it does reveal some information of what happened before, it doesn’t feel spoiler-y. What it does do is make me want to read this sequel right now… and its predecessor.

I want to know why Philip has lost his memory and I want to learn more about this Time Society. I’m a bit anxious about why there’s a “vengeful Windsor ancestor” and why this more than century-old “rift” could have “life-or-death consequences.” And for whom.

The description promises a “breathtaking romance” that combines with “complex magic” and I cannot wait to be enchanted by this love story. As I’ve been very much in the mood as of late to read contemporary and historical YA romances I think this series that also involves time travel will be added to the pile very soon.

Paper Valentine

PAPER VALENTINE by Brenna Yovanoff will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Razorbill, the print edition is 368 pages.

***

I have yet to read a book by author Brenna Yovanoff and yet I own both THE REPLACEMENT and THE SPACE BETWEEN and now PAPER VALENTINE will be joining the collection this week.

I’d first noticed this book because of this cover which is definitely unique and yet I find it so incredibly unsettling. I’m not sure why, but as I look at it, I get a sense of unease.

And that’s not even having read the description. Which I only just did now that I’m creating this post.

I had no idea that this story was a ghost story and a murder mystery. But now that I do I’m even more thrilled to be adding this to my collection. This book of a “city in panic” and a world of “ghost girls and horrifying secrets” sounds absolutely enthralling.

I cannot wait to meet Hannah and find out if I can solve the mystery of who this Valentine Killer is or if I’ll be kept in the dark with only my suspicions.

And even though I have those two other books by the author on my pile, I think this one sounds like the perfect book to be introduced to her writing. And I hope to do so early this spring.

Rise

RISE by Andrea Cremer will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Philomel, the print edition is 416 pages.

RISE is the second book in author Andrea Cremer’s Nightshade Prequel series

***

Yes I own the first book in this prequel series and yes it’s still sitting on my TBR pile. But I just had to pre-order this second book in the series because I really, really want to read both books. Even though I haven’t read the final book int the author’s Nightshade series.

I want to dive into this series that is set before the events that took place in Nightshade. I want to meet Ember and Barrow. The description promises dark magic, “supernatural horrors,” mysterious characters and “shocking revelations.” How could I not want to dive in?

Andrea Cremer has a wonderful writing style and has created characters that I loved in that first series. While I’m still not ready to let that series end, I don’t see why I can’t read RIFT and RISE and meet these new characters and discover this new world.

And I really hope to do so in the next month. Especially as it’s dubbed as being “richly sensual” and “full of magic, action and danger.”

**UPDATE**

Blood Prophecy

BLOOD PROPHECY by Alyxandra Harvey released in the U.S. today, January 8, 2013, in hardcover and paperback formats. (The eBook had an earlier release date of December 24, 2012.)

It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Walker Childrens, the print edition is 496 pages.

BLOOD PROPHECY is the sixth and final book in the author’s Drake Chronicles.

***

As I’d already briefly mentioned BLOOD PROPHECY in my Book Watch post the week it was releasing in eBook format – and it was added to my collection – I completely forgot to mention it this week as I’d intended.

As release date is now upon us, and as I’ve had the eBook in my possession for over two weeks, I am just going to list it here in order to be thorough, rather than ramble on endlessly after-the-fact about how much I love this series, its characters and this author’s writing.

I do have to add – because I just can’t say nothing – that I cannot believe this series is ending and that I am so far behind on it. But I suppose that now that it has ended I will be able to catch up… though I’m not sure I’ll be ready to say goodbye when I do.

There are so many awesome books releasing this week and I’m trying so hard not to add the three “of note” books to my collection before their release date. But I’m one click away from hitting “pre-order” as I write this post.

I haven’t yet read any of the six books I have pre-ordered and in some case haven’t read the first book in the series. So there are a LOT of new books for the TBR pile this week. Which is a good and bad thing.

I am most excited for Gayle Forman and Lisa McMann’s books as I have been a huge fan of both authors for quite some time now. But I’m equally excited to finally “meet” Veronica Rossi, Brenna Yovanoff and Alexandra Monir’s characters.

I really hope to be able to sneak both JUST ONE DAY and CRASH onto my reading pile or go “off-pile” to read either or both of them in the next couple of weeks. Because I don’t want either book to get buried as the year moves forward.

So there are six new books for the pile with three potential adds on release date. I’m pretty sure next week is equally as packed-full, if not, I know that the weeks of the 22nd and 29th will be. So I’m really hoping to get a jump on some of my reading by then.

Anyway…

As always, I hope there are one or two titles you can finally scratch off your list of to be read with this week’s releases. And if there is anything I forgot to list… or buy… I would love a heads up.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #77

Jun 19

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of June 19th-June 25th that I have pre-ordered.

divider_2

This Is Not a Test by Courtney Summers was released today, June 19, 2012, in the U.S. in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 336 pages.

***

Finally! I am so excited that This Is Not a Test is out today. I’ve been dying to read this for weeks and weeks. I even tried to start reading it late last night after my pre-order downloaded, but sleep won out. I will definitely be reading it tonight, though. This is not a book that will sit on the pile.

As I spotlighted it – and all the reasons I wanted to read it – in my Book Watch post a few weeks back, I won’t do so again. Well, not too much anyway….

But I will just highlight the things I’m most excited for from the description. “It’s the end of the world.” The dead are “pounding on the doors.” All it takes is “one bite” to turn you into a monster. And of course the fact that there are “unpredictable and violent bids for life–and death.”

Yeah. Definitely exciting. And with that parting line – “When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?” – I couldn’t help but become hooked. There is no doubt that I will be reading this book tonight. I just hope I’ll be able to finish it tonight, too.

Blood Moon by Alyxandra Harvey was released today, June 19, 2012, in the U.S. in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Walker Childrens, the print edition is 320 pages.

Blood Moon is the fifth book in author Alyxandra Harvey’s Drake Chronicles. The sixth book, Blood Prophecy, is slated for release in January 2013.

***

I am such a huge fan of author Alyxandra Harvey. I have loved her Drake Chronicles for awhile and I loved Haunting Violet. And I am so excited that this series is continuing with another installment.

I pre-ordered it ages ago and I saw that the next book is available to order but not yet in eBook format, so I’ll have to wait for just a bit for that. Yes, I’m already excited for the next book and I haven’t even read this book. But I love the series, love the author’s writing and love, love, love the cover.

I have to catch up on this series as I haven’t read the previous book, but I’m super excited to hear that this book is told by Solange, Lucy and Nicholas’ point of views. Which is even more motivation for me to read. I love those characters and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. And I am super curious to learn all about the Blood Moon ceremony.

The book’s brief description promises a “mysterious stranger,” “secrets” and “forbidden magic” which are more than enough to have piqued my curiosity about this installment. So much so that I will definitely be reading Bleeding Hearts and Blood Moon in July.

Soulbound (Legacy of Tril #1) by Heather Brewer

Pub. Date: June 19, 2012

Published by: Dial

(Amazon, Barnes & Noble)

***

It is a quiet release week. At least in terms of books I’m adding to my collection. Though next week isn’t nearly as quiet, this week I only have two new books for the pile. But I am seriously tempted to buy Soulbound by Heather Brewer and make that number a three. I have an ARC that I received through a trade and wanted to check that out first before buying, but I think I may not be able to avoid making that one click purchase.

This Is Not a Test won’t be sitting on the TBR pile as I will be reading it tonight. And this latest installment of the Drake Chronicles also won’t be there for long because I miss the world and characters and don’t want to get any further behind on the series.

I really hope I didn’t miss any “must buy” books, and I will take a peek around to see if I have, but for now it’s just the two. But if you know of something and want to share….

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #55

Jan 16

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of January 17th-January 23rd that I have pre-ordered.

***

Truth by Julia Karr will be released in the U.S. on January 19, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Puffin, the print edition is 320 pages.

Truth is the sequel to XVI by author Julia Karr.

***

I am so excited that Truth will be be releasing this week. I have been waiting for this sequel since the moment I finished reading XVI last year and I pre-ordered it for my Kindle the second it was available. I happened to get my hands on an ARC of this book just a couple weeks ago, but due to my way too busy January, I wasn’t able to read it the second it landed in my mailbox.

I can’t wait to find out just what happened to the main character, Nina Oberon, since I last saw her. According to the description, the book picks up a few months down the road and Nina now has the tattoo she was forced to get, identifying her as a sixteen-year-old.

I loved the fact that Nina was such a strong heroine in the first book in the series and from the sound of things she gets even stronger in this sequel. I can’t wait to see how she fares in the Resistance and just what consequences come from having the truth revealed.

Tempest by Julie Cross will be released in the U.S. on January 17, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 352 pages.

Tempest is the first book in a new series by the author and is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

***

I missed some of the early buzz about Tempest by Julie Cross, but when I was checking it out for a trailer reveal I did here on the blog the other week, it sounded really interesting so I added to my list of pre-orders.

I love stories about time travel. And the idea that the main character, Jackson Meyer, travels back in time to save his girlfriend sounds incredibly romantic. And, of course, according to the description, things don’t go quite as planned and Jackson gets stuck in the past.

I am super curious about just what other abilities Jackson possesses and I want to see just what these “Enemies of Time” will do to Jackson if they find him.

As this is the first book in this new series, I can’t wait to meet the characters and to see if I’ll be left on a cliff for the sequel.

Fracture by Megan Miranda will be released in the U.S. on January 17, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Walker Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 272 pages.

Fracture  is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

***

I first heard about this book awhile back when I was offered a copy in a trade. It sounded definitely intriguing and potentially heartbreaking. Especially since the description mentions that it’s for fans of Before I Fall and If I Stay, which had me in tears. While I didn’t get to read the ARC, I did pre-order this for my Kindle and I can’t wait until it downloads.

Delany Maxwell is a medical miracle who came back from dying in a car accident. But it seems she’s developed some interesting, and potentially deadly, abilities. She meets someone with similar abilities but according to the description he may have ulterior motives.

I have no idea what to expect in Fracture, but I can’t wait to find out what Delany’s abilities really are and just what happened to her because of her brush with death.

Glitches by Marissa Meyer will be released in the U.S. on January 18, 2012 in eBook format only. It is currently available to pre-order from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The eBook is published by Tor Books.

Glitches is a short prequel story in The Lunar Chronicles by author Marissa Meyer.

***

I’m not sure how I stumbled on this eBook. I believe it was from the Tor email newsletter I receive. As soon as I found out there was a prequel short story, I headed over to Amazon to pre-order it for my Kindle.

I loved Cinder by Marissa Meyer. And I can’t wait to get another story about Cinder and to find out exactly what this “glitch” might be.

Try Not to Breathe by Jennifer R. Hubbard will be released in the U.S. on January 19, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Viking Juvenile, the print edition is 272 pages.

***

I haven’t heard much about Trying Not to Breathe, but I do own another book by the author, which is in my TBR pile. I love the title and I heard the author is amazing so I decided to pre-order this one solely based on the title.

But now that I’ve read the description, I’m so glad that I decided to order this book. This story sounds bittersweet and possibly heartbreaking. Ryan has attempted suicide and is now trying to figure out how to live since his attempt failed. He gains a friend in Nicki, who he feels comfortable sharing his secrets with. But according to the description things get complicated and their friendship is put to the test.

I can’t wait to met Ryan and I hope that things end on a positive note, as it seems that his life has not been an easy one. I hope I get a chance to discover this author’s writing very soon, but I’m happy to add this book to my collection in the meantime.

Hallowed by Cynthia Hand will be released in the U.S. on January 17, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 416 pages.

Hallowed is the sequel to author Cynthia Hand’s debut novel Unearthly.

***

I have had Hallowed pre-ordered for my Kindle for what seems like decades. While I received the ARC for review, I only just got a chance to start reading it yesterday. But what I’ve read so far is amazing.

I loved this series which I discovered in 2010 on NetGalley right when I started blogging. I’ve been a huge fan of angel stories and I loved the fact that the main character, Clara, was the angel in that series.

I have been dying ever since to read this next book, as there was a lot left up in the air about just what would happen with Clara, Tucker and Christian and what further problems might develop between the White Wings and the Dark Wings.

As I’ve already spotlighted this for my Book Watch post, I’ll stop rambling. Also, if I keep talking about Hallowed, I just might accidentally reveal what I already know. I hope to be able to finish this book tonight or tomorrow, but from the buzz I’ve already heard about this sequel, I will be blown away. And I might just pick up the print edition because the cover looks absolutely beautiful.

Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey will be released in the U.S. on January 17, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Walker Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 288 pages.

***

I am such a huge fan of author Alyxandra Harvey. I fell in love with her Drake Chronicles ages ago, and more recently loved her book Haunting Violet. When I heard she wrote a story about faeries I was thrilled to no end. And I immediately pre-ordered this book.

I ended up grabbing an ARC in a trade, but wasn’t able to read it prior to its release, but I will be reading the finished copy next month because I love faery stories and I absolutely love this author.

According to the description, Eloise is abducted by the King of Faery. Because he wants to remain in power, he needs to get rid of his wife and the way he figures he can do that is by using her niece, Eloise, as bait.

This story sounds super exciting. I can’t wait to meet Eloise and the yummy Lucas. And even the Faery King’s son Eldric who sounds like he’d be just the sort of bad boy that I love to read about.

***

There are so many amazing books releasing this week. I can’t imagine when I’ll have the time to read them all, but I hope really, really soon. And I can’t wait to see if I can sneak in Glitches since I just read Cinder and I really want to go back to the world that author Marissa Meyer created.

I’m probably going to be buying the Megan Bostic book because I’ve had that on my radar for some time, but I’m trying to not have too many books pre-ordered this year. I don’t know how successful I’ll be given the fact that I already have 60 books in the queue.

As much as I love all of these books releasing this week, and I hope to read them in the very near future, I’m getting so excited for a certain book releasing next week. You have no idea… Okay maybe you do. But if you don’t, I’ll just say COLE.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #51

Dec 19

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of December 20th-December 26th that I have pre-ordered.

***

Bleeding Hearts by Alyxandra Harvey will be released in the U.S. on December 20, 2011 in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in all formats.

Published by Walker Books for Young readers, the print edition is 304 pages.

Bleeding Hearts is the fourth book in the Drake Chronicles by author Alyxandra Harvey.

***

I love the Drake Chronicles series by author Alyxandra Harvey. I fell in love with it before I started blogging so it has an extra special place in my heart because I discovered it on my own.

And I love this cover for Bleeding Hearts, though apparently Amazon downloaded the other – possibly UK – version for me back in October. I’ve been trying to get this version to pre-order but it won’t let me as it says I already own it. I am going to keep trying.

I can’t wait to read this installment about Connor Drake and Christabel – Lucy’s cousin. In Bleeding Hearts, Christabel is taken by the Hel Blar who mistake her for Lucy and is infected by them.

I really hope that Connor is able to save her, even if her new existence is as a vampire and not a human. And I hope we get a peek at Lucy and Solange and all the rest of the yummy Drake boys in this next book.

To read an excerpt and for a link to download the full prologue from the publisher, CLICK HERE.

Still Waters by Emma Carlson Berne will be released in the U.S. on December 20, 2011 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 240 pages.

***

Still Waters sounds like an eerie book and one I can’t wait to read. I had heard about it a month or so ago when I was offered it in a trade, but as I knew I wouldn’t get to read it before release, I pre-ordered the finished copy for my Kindle.

Any book with a description that has the phrase “what lies beneath” always gives me the heebie-jeebies. But this just sounds so unbelievably awesome. I wish I had heard about it sooner so I could have requested a review copy, as this sounds like a perfect book for me.

Hannah and Colin head off to a remote lake house for a romantic weekend before he goes to college. And of course things take a turn for the worse almost immediately. According to the description the town doesn’t appear on any map, the house looks lived in yet it’s supposed to have been unoccupied and Colin starts acting weird.

I can’t wait to find out about Colin’s dark side and just what ends up haunting Hannah. I hope to squeeze this book in among my packed schedule for January reads because this is one that I won’t want to miss.

On a Dark Wing by Jordan Dane will be released in the U.S. on December 20, 2011 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 320 pages.

The official release date for On a Dark Wing is December 27th, 2011, but it will be available for purchase on the 20th. I’ve included it in this week’s Book Watch post as I’ll be receiving my copy on the 20th.

***

I can’t wait to see the finished copy of On a Dark Wing both electronically and in print. I have the eARC courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley and I’m dying to find out whether each new chapter has an increasing number of ravens like the eARC does.

My Kindle version downloads on the 20th, so I’ll be checking that out, but I have got to get my hands on the print edition to see if it differs in any way. I just think it’s a really cool touch. Especially as the ravens are important to the story.

I have almost finished reading On a Dark Wing, so I have no need to guess what this story is about, but I still don’t have the first clue how it will all end. It’s a complete mystery. Which is a good thing.

As I don’t want to say too much here about what I already know, I’ll just stick with what is revealed in the description.

Abbey Chandler nearly died in a car accident that she was in with her mother. While her mom died, she survived. But Death became fascinated with her. And because of this, Death stalks a boy Abbey has been crushing on – Nate Holden.

With Death and his ravens having set their sights on Nate, his life is now at risk. And Abbey must figure out what she can do to save him.

I really can’t wait to get back to reading this book so that I can find out exactly how everything ends. While I know some more about the story than what’s been revealed, I don’t know what happens to Abbey or Nate at the story’s end.

To read an excerpt from the prologue on the author’s website, CLICK HERE.

Zombie Tag by Hannah Moskowitz will be released in the U.S. on December 20, 2011 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both formats.

Published by Roaring Book Press, the print edition is 240 pages.

Zombie Tag is a Middle Grade book by author Hannah Moskowitz for children age 9 and older.

I decided I had to read Zombie Tag the second I heard about it during its cover reveal a few months ago. It just sounded so odd and quirky and yet heartbreaking. And, as soon as I was able, I pre-ordered it for my Kindle.

I don’t read a lot of middle grade books, but this one just seems so interesting. Funny and sad, but definitely interesting. Plus, the author has such a wild imagination and after reading Invincible Summer I had to check out something from her that is aimed at a younger audience.

The story is about a young boy named Wil Lowenstein whose older brother died. To cope with his loss he plays a game with his friends called Zombie Tag. Which is clearly a big influence on him – he wishes his brother could come back from the dead, even if it means he comes back as a zombie. Well, Wil’s wish somehow comes true.

And, of course, Wil’s brother is not the same.

I have a feeling that this book will make me laugh and cry and my heart will break just a little bit for young Wil. But as this book is meant for a middle grade audience, I hope there will be more smiles than tears.

It seems like forever ago when I first heard about Zombie Tag and I can’t wait to finally get the chance to read it.

I am so happy – you have no idea – that I’ll be getting four new books this week. And I’m seriously adding the Vampire Academy: The Ultimate Guide to my holiday gift list, and if I love it in print I will definitely be buying it for the Kindle.

I also wish I could get Torn by Cat Clarke because it looks amazing, but I’m not risking The Book Depository during the holidays so it will definitely have to wait.

It felt like the world tipped on its axis last week when there was not one traditionally published book available for download. But I’m so glad to have new books to add to my collection this week.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

The Extras: Teasers #6

Jul 10

There are so many amazing books out there – released or soon-to-be-released – that have certain passages that just captivate.

Here are just a few of those that caught my attention in the past month.

***

I have five favorite passages in this book. One which is a total spoiler and is tied for my favorite. It is so hard not to reveal it right here and now because there is nothing I want to talk about more.

The other one in the tie is slightly less revealing, but could potentially be seen as a spoiler. I may reveal parts of that in my defense of Tod when he goes up in the tournament against Archer Cross, but we’ll see.

My third favorite passage I might just add to the teasers next month. That’s still TBD. So here is my fourth favorite. And no, I will not tell you who said it or who is being talked about.

Anonymous – sorry, but this is a teaser after all:

“He feels…addictive.” She hugged her own stomach, and her backpack swung to one side, but she didn’t seem to notice. “When he looks at you, you feel really, really good. Like an afterglow that’s not…after. You want things, and you know he can give them to you, and when he looks away, it feels like the spotlight left you to shine on someone else, and you’ll do anything to bring it back. To feel that heat.”

(As this quote is from an ARC, when the finished book is released I will check it against that source for accuracy.)

There are actually quite a few hot and steamy passages in this book. Some that would easily rate above a PG-13. But while they were some of my favorites, they didn’t tease me nearly as much as this one did.

And although I read this book twice, and have thought about what exactly this passage might mean, I still have no idea. So, this is as much a teaser for me as it might be to those who haven’t yet read this book.

King Lucifer to Luc:

“I know what she is, and I’m going to have her, Lucifer. She was mine in the Beginning and she’ll be mine again. There’s nothing you can do to stop me.”

It was fairly difficult to choose a teaser for this book. There were a few rather beautiful passages in this story and several entertaining ones, but I always tend to favor those about love.

I wanted to include the entire interaction to give a complete picture – cutting it off short would have been too cruel. But in order not to give too much away, I decided to leave the name of the boy who kissed Violet a mystery.

Violet and…(well now, to find out you’ll just have to read it) :

He just stepped closer to me, right on my shadow, which had been the only thing between us. His eyes were angry and conflicted but his hands were gentle on my face, wrapping around the back of my neck. He pulled slightly and I stumbled forward. His mouth closed over mine, the kiss sending warmth shooting all the way from my belly down to my knees. His tongue was bold, sliding over mine as if I were strawberry ice cream. I felt devoured, delicious, decadent.

He stopped abruptly, pulling back, his breath ragged.

“I’m not good enough for you either.”

I really thought about teasing some of the funnier lines in the story, and there are so many humorous and twisted passages. Those passages, and they were many, were my favorites.

But as they really need to be discovered in context with the rest of the story, and would also spoil some of the enjoyment in reading this book if I revealed them here, I decided on one that gives just a little insight into Jana’s thoughts about Michael.

In her eyes, he really was her one true love, her soul mate, her Romeo.

Jana’s thoughts about Michael:

She thought of the times she’d danced with Michael. When they danced, they became one person. They gave themselves to each other. Just like when they kissed. His lips were hers. Her lips were his. When she and Michael kissed, they owned each other, but not themselves. Two people becoming one person was the way Jana had always imagined true love.

I know I already included a short quote with my review, but there were a number of passages that I loved in this book. So, as this is the teaser post, I thought I’d include a longer one here.

It’s still not my favorite quote, as that one is filled with much innuendo and is definitely above the PG-13 rating I’m trying to keep here on the blog, so sadly (or not so sadly) that one can only be discovered by reading the book for yourself.

Wolfe to Rogan:

He cocked his eyebrow. “At first I thought imposed isolation would make you miss me-”

“Why you arro-”

“-But then I realised that it’s being near me you can’t resist. And there are only so many kisses you’ll take before you give in to me completely, Rogan.”

I already included one of my favorite passages in my review, but there were a few more gems in this book. Sin was such a sarcastic main character and couldn’t help some of the hilarious things she said, so I almost included one of her best lines as the teaser.

But, as is to be expected, I decided instead to include something much more swoon-worthy.

Cynthia and…if you can even believe it…Alan:

He was gorgeous by moonlight, hair and skin turned a hazy golden color, his eyes starlit-night blue and so sweet, so deep, pools you could drop your heart into and lose it forever.

“Cynthia,” he murmured, fingers still brushing her cheek, making her shiver. “I’m not lying.”

I included my very favorite passage in my review, but this one is also so completely awesome. It is from the same scene as the one I chose before, which goes on for a few pages and has so many amazing passages.

This scene alone, which is just about mid-way through the book, makes this story worth a read.

Amelia and Joshua:

…We leaned into each other and pressed our lips together.

The kiss crashed over me, wave upon wave of fire. The ache exploded across my chest like an atom bomb, incinerating everything in its path. I let it burn me; I let it consume me.

Almost every single passage in this story had such a beautiful flow. I included the one I thought was the most powerful – and didn’t contain any spoilers – in my review.

This was another passage that I thought was absolutely amazing, but I’ve only included a portion – enough to tease but not reveal too much.

Chloe’s thoughts:

They forgot who she was:

Something fantastic we could never explain. Someone better and bolder than every one of us. Someone to paint murals and build bridges for. Someone worth every ounce of our love.

Someone powerful, but in the end not powerful enough.

Last month I decided not to post a teaser from If I Die by Rachel Vincent. But as Tod just won his first match (but hopefully not his last) in the YA Crush Tourney, I thought I’d post a small teaser here. I’ll save the slightly bigger one until either my next match in the tourney or next month’s teasers post.

And although I read and reviewed Supernaturally, I completely forgot to write down my favorite passages and have since given away both copies of the book. So any teasers I have for it will have to be included in the post next month. Sorry!
