Star Cursed Cover

addtogoodreads

I am so unbelievably excited that today is the release day for STAR CURSED by Jessica Spotswood. I was only just recently introduced to the series and its characters, but it is now one of my very most favorites. I already cannot wait for the third book in this series to be released. And as I have no idea when it’s slated for release, the wait is going to be torturous.

I absolutely adore Cate Cahill and her sister Tess. I’m in love with the world. And I more than a little bit fond of Finn. The writing is gorgeous, the story is magical and the ending is…. Oops, I think I’ve said enough about that.

As I thought this book was more than amazing - I gave it my off-the-menu rating in my review - I wanted to offer up a couple copies for giveaway. And so that’s what I’m doing.

For those who haven’t yet read the description for this second book in the Cahill Witch Chronicles, I’ve included it below. Though, if you haven’t read BORN WICKED, you may want to skip right to the giveaway as it does contain some mild spoilers for that book.

STAR CURSED Description…

With the Brotherhood persecuting witches like never before, a divided Sisterhood desperately needs Cate to come into her Prophesied powers. And after Cate’s friend Sachi is arrested for using magic, a war-thirsty Sister offers to help her find answers—if Cate is willing to endanger everyone she loves.

Cate doesn’t want to be a weapon, and she doesn’t want to involve her friends and Finn in the Sisterhood’s schemes. But when Maura and Tess join the Sisterhood, Maura makes it clear that she’ll do whatever it takes to lead the witches to victory. Even if it means sacrifices. Even if it means overthrowing Cate. Even if it means all-out war.

In the highly anticipated sequel to Born Wicked, the Cahill Witch Chronicles continue Cate, Maura and Tess’s quest to find love, protect family, and explore their magic against all odds in an alternate history of New England.

Poison Blog Tour Banner

I am so excited to be a part of the blog tour for POISON by Molly Cochran hosted by Readergirl Reviews a Teen Book and A Life Bound By Books.

When I took a look at the description for this second book in the series and saw that the story was a mix of Arthurian Legend and witchcraft I couldn’t wait to be a part of the tour. And I couldn’t wait to add both LEGACY and POISON to my collection.

This second book in the series promises magic, mystery and romance. And with a boarding school setting where magic is forbidden, this sequel sound every bit as exciting as the first.

But if you haven’t yet met Katy, you’ll get to learn just a little bit about her as she interviews her author, Molly Cochran, for today’s stop on the tour. And if you already know you want to meet her, be sure to enter the giveaway below for a chance to win a copy of the first two books in this series as well as an advance copy of the upcoming third book.

And if you haven’t yet met Author Molly Cochran, you’ll learn quite a bit about her in the interview, such as whether she’s been burned at the stake, is able to fling 500 pound tables and just how she feels about writing “the end.” Oh, and there’s also a bio and links to places you can find her online if you want to know just a little bit more.

While I love my post for the tour, I’m not the only stop on the tour today with an awesome post. So be sure to check out all today’s stops to learn more about Molly Cochran and her awesome Legacy series.

About the Book

Poison

POISON (Legacy #2) by Molly Cochran

About POISON

Arthurian legend mixes with modern-day witchcraft in this haunting sequel to Legacy, which Publishers Weekly said “should please the legions of paranormal fans looking for a sophisticated supernatural thriller.”

After the riveting—and romantic—events of Legacy, Katy has won Peter’s heart and is nowclaiming her place in the magical world. Though half the students at her boarding school come from witching lines, the use of magic is expressly forbidden at Ainsworth, so as to keep the witching world hidden from the blue-blooded preppies, aka Muffies, who also walk the halls.

But the Muffies have at least a notion of magic, because Katy catches them staging a made-up ritual—and to her astonishment, the girls collapse at Katy’s feet and fall into comas. When Katy is blamed, she becomes desperate to clear her name and finds herself battling all odds to harness her growing magical powers in order to save the Muffies and dispel the Darkness once more.

The Guest Post

Katy interviews Molly Cochran

Katy: Hi, Molly.

Molly: Hi, Katy.

Katy: This is the first time we’ve talked.

Molly: I didn’t think you knew I existed.

Katy: I didn’t. Well, sometimes I got the feeling that I was being watched.

Molly: I’m not just watching you. I created you.

Katy: Whoa, creep alert!

Molly: Sorry. So what did you want to ask me? Anything. I’ll answer.

Katy: Okay. What makes you think you know me?

Molly: I am you. That is to say, I’ve been through all the things you go through—

Katy: Hah! I suppose you’ve almost been burned at the stake!

Molly: No, but at times I’ve felt like everyone was against me… that no matter what I said, I couldn’t get anyone to understand me. Wasn’t that what the burning-at-the-stake business was really about?

Katy: I’ll bet you never flung a five-hundred-pound table at anyone, either.

Molly: Correct. But I’ve wanted to. You were the vehicle I used to get even with all the nasty people I’ve ever wanted to lash out at but was too powerless to try.

Katy: What a loser.

Molly: Maybe. Everybody feels like a loser sometimes. But if you think about why you feel like a loser, that changes everything. You go from being a loser to being a thinker. All writers start out as thinkers.

Katy: Whatever. Let me look at my notes. Oh, right. If you were an insect, what would you be?

Molly: A Katydid!

Katy: God, just how lame are you?

Molly: If you’re calling me God, I am. I’m your god. I can do anything I want with your life.

Katy: Is that why you write? To feel power?

Molly: No. I write because I have to. When I don’t write I begin to feel weird. Trapped.

Katy: Trapped?

Molly: This is how it is with me: Basically I feel like I was born in a cinderblock cell with no windows or doors. It’s gray and cold and the air is stale. All I have with me is a bottle of bubble juice.

So I blow a bubble, and . . . voila, I can see a universe inside! The bubble grows bigger and bigger, until it’s big enough for me to walk into it. And when I do, I find that suddenly I’m in Camelot. Or a monastery in Tibet. Or Atlantis . . .

Katy: Or Whitfield, Massachusetts, home to more witches than any other town in America?

Molly: Exactly. I get to live there for months, and sometimes years, getting to know the people who belong there and having adventures with them.

Katy: And then it’s over.

Molly: Alas. Those words “The End” are always the hardest goodbye. That’s when the bubble fades and vanishes, and everything inside it goes away.

Katy: Except for the book.

Molly: Yes. That’s my record of having been there. My souvenir.

Katy: So why did you choose this life? Why be a writer?

Molly: Because it’s the only way I can get inside that bubble.

Katy: Wow. And I live there all the time!

Molly: Lucky you.

Katy (checks notes again): If you died and got reincarnated, what would you like to come back as?

Molly: A fictional character. Preferably a major one who doesn’t get killed off in the early chapters.

Katy: A witch, maybe?

Molly: Definitely a witch, Katy.

Spies and Prejudice Blog Tour: ‘Scene from Tanner’s POV’ Guest Post & Giveaway

Jun 14

spies_and_prejudice

I am such a huge fan of author Talia Vance. I absolutely love her Bandia series and I am super excited to be able to be a part of the tour to celebrate the release of her book SPIES AND PREJUDICE.

If you think the book sounds awesome from having read the description, just wait until you read the dance scene from Tanner’s point of view that I have for my stop on the tour today. It will make you want to pick up the book so that you can meet Tanner and Berry. And it will make you want to read the scene from Berry’s POV to see just what she thought of their dance.

Of course reading the scene from Tanner’s perspective makes me want to read the entire book from his POV too….

Anyway… while I think I have the best stop on the tour, there are some other amazing stops you’ll definitely want check out – fab reviews and super fun guest posts including a dream cast, things a spy girl shouldn’t leave home without, character comparisons, a playlist and more.

The tour schedule is included at the bottom of this post with direct links to all the stops on the tour through today’s stop.

But before you head off to check those out, there is a giveaway for some awesome prizes that follows below the book’s description and places to find it online, the seriously amazing guest post and some information about the author and places to find her online.

Author Talia Vance is a fantastic writer who can make you swoon over her characters one moment and get all twisty-turny because of something that happened to them the next. And I’m so thrilled to have her on the blog today to share this scene that does just a little bit of both.

About the Book

Spies and Prejudice

About SPIES AND PREJUDICE

Fields’ Rule #1: Don’t fall for the enemy.

Berry Fields is not looking for a boyfriend. She’s busy trailing cheaters and liars in her job as a private investigator, collecting evidence of the affairs she’s sure all men commit. And thanks to a pepper spray incident during an eighth grade game of spin the bottle, the guys at her school are not exactly lining up to date her, either.

So when arrogant—and gorgeous—Tanner Halston rolls into town and calls her “nothing amazing,” it’s no loss for Berry. She’ll forget him in no time. She’s more concerned with the questions surfacing about her mother’s death.

But why does Tanner seem to pop up everywhere in her investigation, always getting in her way? Is he trying to stop her from discovering the truth, or protecting her from an unknown threat? And why can’t Berry remember to hate him when he looks into her eyes?

With a playful nod to Jane Austen, Spies and Prejudice will captivate readers as love and espionage collide.

SPIES AND PREJUDICE released on June 11, 2013 and is available in hardcover and eBook formats.

Guest Post

The Dance Scene from Tanner’s Point of View

Five minutes.  That’s how long it takes for Ryan to get Mary Chris on the dance floor and act like a complete fool, bumping and grinding like an idiot with a ridiculous smile on his face.  I would drag him outside and knock some sense into him if I didn’t suspect that the girl next to me would tackle me to the ground before I got within three feet of Mary Chris.   Even that dress wouldn’t stop Berry from protecting her friend.

That dress.

I steal another sideways glance.

Damn.  It would be so worth getting tackled by her.

No.  It would be a disaster.

I stare back out at Ryan and Mary Chris, doing my best to pull myself together.  Is it hot in here?  It’s definitely hot in here.

“Do you want to dance?” Berry asks.

She can’t be serious.  There’s no way that Berry Fields actually wants to dance with me.  Unless she’s somehow discovered that I suck at dancing and is hoping to embarrass me in front of half the school.  I stare at the floor, because if I look at her, I might do something stupid.  Like say yes.  “I don’t dance.”

“It’s called the Homecoming Dance.  Not the Homecoming hide-in-the-corner-and-brood.”  She gestures toward Ryan and Mary Chris.  “Must be a shock for you.  All this merriment.”

Ryan spreads his fingers and drags his palms over his eyes in a poor imitation of John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.  I should put a stop to this whole thing while he still has a tiny piece of self-respect intact.

While I do.

“Why are you even here?”  Berry’s eyes bore into me.

I let myself look at her, and instantly regret it.  My mouth goes dry and I have to remember to breathe.  Was she always so beautiful?  It’s more than just the dress.  I can’t look at her lips without remembering how they feel against mine.  Without wanting to feel them again.

I step closer, backing her closer to the wall.  “Maybe I like brooding in corners with pretty girls in fancy dresses who take my breath away.”

Her eyes widen and her lips part.  For a second I think she might be thinking of kissing me too, but then she pushes past me. “You’ll have to brood alone for a while.”  She stops a few feet away and glances over her shoulder.  “I came here to dance.”

Damn it.

She did want to dance with me.

It shouldn’t matter.  I should be over it already.  How many times do I need to be insulted, brushed off or completely shot down?

At least one more apparently.

I push through the crowd, following the gold threads of her dress as they reflect off the lights overhead.  I nearly knock over a couple making out in the middle of the dance floor, but I don’t lose sight of Berry as she retreats across the room.

She’s almost to the other side when I reach for her elbow.  She spins around at the contact, her fists raised in a fighting stance that would be scary if it weren’t so damn sexy.  “Are you following me again?”

“It appears that way.”

“Why?”

I inhale, sucking it up.  “I changed my mind.”  As bad ideas go, this is the worst.  A slow song plays, and touching her is not going to help me get over this.

She drops her fists, but her eyes are still hard, untrusting.  “You changed your mind?”

“This is stupid.”  I wasn’t kidding when I said I don’t dance.  “I don’t know what I’m doing here.”

“Are you asking me to dance?  Cause here’s a tip.  You might want to edit out the commentary about it being stupid.”  She shakes her head, her blonde curls brushing her bare shoulders in a way that makes me wish I could follow suit.

I hold out my hand to her, ignoring her comment.  If she dances with me, she’ll figure out exactly how stupid of an idea this is, but right now I don’t care.  I just want to touch her.

She gives me her hand in silent answer to my prayer.  “I thought you didn’t dance,” she says.

“I might be terrible.”

“Stop the presses.  Tanner Halston is terrible at something?”  Is she smiling?

“It happens.”  More than I want to admit.  Hell, Berry Fields is exhibit A in the case against me for all my failures.

I reach for her waist with my other hand, and pull her close enough that I can smell the strawberries in her hair.  Her lips tasted like strawberries, and I can’t help but think that if I leaned forward and kissed the bare skin on her neck, that the rest of her would taste like strawberries too.  I pull her against me, savoring the jolt of heat that fills me at the contact.  Why did I ever think dancing sucked?

“You are kind of terrible,” she says. “Keep your feet still.”

Reality check.  I freeze, afraid that one wrong move will send her scurrying away in horror.  She doesn’t move either.  We just stand in the middle of the dance floor, holding each other.

“This isn’t dancing,” I say.  It’s a billion times better.

“We’ll get there.  One thing at a time.  Start with your hips.”  She slides her hands along my waist, lower.  “Here.”  She presses her hips into mine, swaying to the side, urging me to move with her.

I’m pretty sure I stopped breathing about two sways ago, but I follow her lead, biting my lip to keep from gasping.

“Good,” she says, and I smile wildly at the compliment.   “Now, step slowly.  That’s it.  And turn slightly as you step.”

I lift my foot and turn.

“Ow!” She pulls her foot out from underneath mine, but she’s laughing, and she keeps her hips pressed to me.  “Okay, forget the stepping for now.” She brings both her hands to my shoulders, letting them slide behind my neck until my face is buried in her hair and my lips brush against her neck, the scent of strawberries tangling with something richer.

I can’t stop smiling.  “I told you I didn’t dance.”

“You’re doing fine.”

I’m doing better than fine.  That’s the problem.  Touching her is addicting.  She pulls me closer and my hands move from her waist to her back, to the smooth skin on her shoulders.  I push a long strand of hair away from her neck and bring my lips closer, so tempted to see if she tastes as good as she smells.

The song ends before I’m ready, as if I ever could be, but Berry doesn’t pull away.  If anything, she pulls me closer.

“Berry,” I say, my lips brushing softly against her neck.  Damn.  She does taste like strawberries.

“Hmm?”

It’s an effort to keep from kissing her right there in the middle of the dance floor.

“The song’s over.”

She opens her eyes and startles.  Pushing me away from her, she stands up straight and brushes her skirt over her thighs with her hands.   “This is the part where you’re supposed to thank me for the dance.”

“Thank you.”  I can’t take my eyes off her.

Which is exactly why I need to get the hell out of here.

I turn around and walk away without looking back.  This cannot be happening.  It can’t happen.

I am so screwed.

Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge – Month Five

Jun 14

DONTbanner

If you’re just visiting here now and have no idea what this challenge is about, CLICK HERE for the post with all the details. It’s not too late to sign up! Though this is the final month of the challenge.

Line_001

Well, it’s the final month of the challenge. And for those of you who have managed to read at least one series-ending book during each month of the challenge, you are totally amazing.

CONGRATULATIONS!

As this is the last month, if there are those lingering books you want to read, now’s the time. Of course you could read them after the challenge. But if you’re anything like me you’ll end up putting it off “for later.” And if you are like me, “later” never seems to roll around.

This past month no book was a clear winner like in previous months of the challenge. But BOUNDLESS seems to have been a popular read… one I really should be reading this month, now that I’m reading the novella, RADIANT, that is set just before this final book.

During the fourth month of the challenge it was Aleksandra of Aleksandra’s Corner that totally killed the challenge with four series-ending books read and reviewed. Wow. That is amazing!

I, on the other hand, did terribly. I only read one series-ending book. Just one. This past month the only series-ending book I read was:

DANCE OF THE RED DEATH (Masque of the Red Death #2) by Bethany Griffin

And I can’t even link it to my review because it’s not posted yet. Neither is my review for GODDESS which I read last month.

But they will be posted on the blog this week. And I will definitely be reading IF I SHOULD DIE this month. After just having finished the novella, DIE FOR HER, I am desperate to read that final book right now.

And I think it’s finally time to take the plunge and read DARKEST MERCY. It’s been a long time coming and I’m still not certain I’m ready to find out how that series ends… but I must. It’s one of the first books I thought of when I decided to start this challenge.

So, I think that means I’m going to have to wait just a little bit longer to say goodbye to CLOCKWORK PRINCESS. Because I refuse to say goodbye to both of these books this month.

While I am just a little bit disappointed that I haven’t read many series-ending books this month, it seems that I actually didn’t read very many books at all. So I don’t feel quite as bad for only reading one series-ending book. Though I feel terrible for only reading four books in the last month.

I am ever hopeful that will change during this last month of the challenge.

But what books are you “hoping” to read this last month of the challenge? I’d love to know!

florals_001

Just a reminder of what to do….

When you’ve read the book and shared your thoughts online – whether on Goodreads, Facebook or your blog – stop back and leave a link in the Linky. As this is the final month of the challenge, however, the giveaway will be just a little bit different.

At the end of the challenge, I will be adding up all the linked reviews from the entire challenge. Each review link will count as one entry into this end-of-challenge giveaway. And there will be two winners. The second place winner will get one book of their choice, not to exceed $25 US. The first place winner will get $50 (US) in books of their choice.

And they do not have to be series-ending books.

So, if you haven’t read that many books for the challenge yet, there’s still time to earn a few more entries into the challenge-ending giveaway. But more importantly it’s not too late to say farewell to a series you wanted to say goodbye to ages ago.

florals_001

Winner_FKT

The winner for this month’s Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge Book of Your Choice is….

Aleksandra @ Aleksandra’s Corner

Congratulations! You’ve won a series-ending books of your choice. Please email me – or fill out my contact form – with your book of choice and your address and I’ll order it from Amazon or The Book Depository – or pre-order it if it’s not yet released.

florals_001

As the Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge nears its end, I wish you the very best of luck in saying your goodbyes. I hope that saying goodbye has gotten easier and that you’ve managed to say goodbye to a few series that you’ve been wanting to say goodbye to for months or years.

While this past month wasn’t the most successful for me in terms of the number of books I had to say goodbye to, it wasn’t hard to pick up the series-ending book I did read and dive in. Though when I reached the story’s end I was incredibly sad that there would be no further books to anticipate. I just hope that won’t be the case for the two books I plan to read this month.

The challenge ends on July 13th at 11:59 p.m. Pacific and the Wrap Up post will go up on July 14th and will announce the two challenge winners. Even though saying goodbye to stories and characters we love is always a bit sad, I at least hope that this challenge has been just a little bit fun.

The Sound of Letting Go Cover

THE SOUND OF LETTING GO by Stasia Ward Kehoe

Coming February 1, 2014

Line_001

My Thoughts

I don’t usually participate in cover reveals sight unseen. Try almost never. But I just knew that the cover for THE SOUND OF LETTING GO was going to be beautiful. And I was right!

I love this cover. I don’t even know where to begin… it’s just so pretty. From the color choices to the background image to the fonts. There is not one thing I don’t love about this cover.

I love that the cover let’s the title speak for it. It’s an amazing title. It broke my heart before I even read the description. And I think the choices for fonts while clean and simple aren’t plain and boring. They have just a bit of whimsy to them. And with the blur that almost mimics the lens flare circles, it adds a layer of depth.

I love that the author’s name is left justified like the title instead of centered at the bottom. And I love that it’s all caps which contrasts with the all lowercase of the title. I also love the color choices for both the title and the author’s name.

And I just love, love, love the “wish” in the background. It, too, fits in so well with the title and the idea of letting go.

Of course it’s not just the cover that’s amazing, but the book. Just check out the description, which follows below, and see for yourself. I know that I cannot wait to read it when it releases next winter.

Possession Series Blog Tour Scavenger Hunt: Guest Post with Elana Johnson + Giveaway

Jun 12

Elanas-Button_Abandon

I’m totally stoked to be one of today’s stops on the Possession series scavenger hunt! I’ve been following along with the event so far and it’s been awesome. There are a lot of super fun posts – excerpts, interviews, guest posts – that give new and existing readers a chance to learn more about the characters, the books and the author. So be sure to check them all out.

And with daily giveaways you won’t want to miss a single stop.

For my stop today, I have a wicked cool guest post by author Elana Johnson in which she talks about some of my favorite characters in fiction – villains. A story just isn’t quite the same without a character to despise. In the Possession series there just so happens to be more than one and the author shares a little bit about each of her villains in her post, which follows below.

But first let me share just a little bit of information about ABANDON, the third and final book in her series, which released last week on June 4th.

Vi, Jag, and Zenn must set their problems aside for the Resistance to have any hope of ending the Thinkers’ reign. Their success means everything…and their failure means death.

Guest Post

Some of the most exciting characters to read about are those we love to hate. The villains. And the Possession series has several… Or does it?

Let’s examine.

ThayneFinalFirst, Thane Myers. Thane is Violet’s dad, and we spend most of the first book hating him. By the end of Possession, we’re downright livid at what he’s done. But in Surrender, we learn that there’s more to Thane than meets the eye.

I don’t want to give anything away, but Thane is one of my favorite characters for that very fact. I don’t know what he’ll do. As I wrote Surrender and Abandon, he kept surprising me. In the end, I decided if he was going to be a good guy or a bad guy, and I had to have him prove it. But yeah. Thane was a trip to write.

Van Hightower. Van is Raine’s father, and we first get introduced to him in Surrender. There’s no bones about who or what Director Hightower is. He’s a bad guy, through and through, and he proves it over and over in Surrender. He’s no better in ABANDON, so get ready.

General Director Ian Darke. Ian is new to the series in ABANDON, and he’s ruthless. He’ll impersonate who he needs to. He’ll get inside your head and make you see what’s not there. He makes promises he has no intention of keeping. His goal is as singular as Jag’s: Destroy the Resistance by whatever means necessary.

The thing is, most villains have a cause. Something they believe in as strongly as the main characters. And Ian Darke does. He wants his power, sure, but he also wants people to be able to continue living with clean water. Food. Safety. Shelter.

And there’s no one who questions which side is right more than Zenn. He’s not really a villain — depending on who you ask. Ha! He does spend some time in ABANDON wondering if what he’s been fighting for is worth it. And if not, then what should he do? We get to go with Zenn on a lot of missions in ABANDON, one of them to the city of Lakehead, where he questions and struggles with where his energies should be spent.

Zenn was both easy and hard to write. He’s a fully formed person in my head, and who among us doesn’t struggle with decisions? Who doesn’t wrestle over what’s the right thing to do? Are we not all villains then, to someone, somewhere?

That’s what I love about villains, though in the end, I don’t categorize Zenn among them.
