UNINVITED is the first book in a new series by Author Sophie Jordan. A release date has not been set for the sequel.

There are a ton of awesome books releasing the week of January 28th, quite a few of which I’ve been dying to read for a long while. But the book I just recently read, the book that so completely blew me away, the book that has been my favorite read so far this year, the book to watch this week is UNINVITED by Sophie Jordan.

I didn’t expect to be as wowed as I was when I first read this book’s description. It sounded interesting, it sounded a little different from what I usually read, I knew I enjoyed this author’s writing, so I expected to like it. But…

I didn’t think it would be as thought-provoking as it was. I didn’t anticipate it being as engaging or exciting or nerve-wracking or chilling. I didn’t think I’d love the main character as much as I did. I didn’t think I’d be racing through the pages, desperate to find out what happened next. I didn’t think I’d spend the entire read on the edge of my seat.

I didn’t anticipate loving it as much as I do.

As I have read this book just a little bit early and I know everything that happens in this first book in the series it was so easy for me to choose it as the book to spotlight this week. Because I don’t have to guess as to whether I’ll enjoy it – I do. I don’t have to guess at whether it will amaze me from start to finish – it did, it does.

And I don’t have to wonder whether it will live up to its promise of suspense, “gripping action” and “breathless romance” – it most definitely does.

UNINVITED surpassed my wildest expectations. It makes me want to ramble on and on and on about what happened with Davy. It makes me want to discuss whether it was the test results that created the criminals, that caused crime to rise, or if it would have happened anyway.

It makes me curious about whether the HTS label gave those who were marked license to behave the way they did, whether having nothing to lose altered their behavior more than being, but not knowing about being, an HTS carrier. It makes me curious about so many things.

I could go on and on about how fascinating this book was, how heartbreaking, how tension-filled. I could go on… and on… and on… about the very swoon-worthy Sean O’Rourke. I could talk about how crazy of an emotional roller coaster it was or how scary and shocking this not-so-distant future is. But I won’t.

Because this is all self-evident during the course of the read. And it’s so much better discovered in its pages.

Without a doubt, UNINVITED is not only the book to watch this week, it is a MUST, MUST, MUST READ book. And even in a week that’s as crowded with new and awesome releases as the week of January 28th, UNINVITED is a complete and total standout from the crowd. Stunning, brilliant, mind-blowing and absolutely re-read worthy.

About the Book

Goodreads description:

The Scarlet Letter meets Minority Report in bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s chilling new novel about a teenage girl who is ostracized when her genetic test proves she’s destined to become a murderer.

When Davy Hamilton’s tests come back positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome (HTS)-aka the kill gene-she loses everything. Her boyfriend ditches her, her parents are scared of her, and she can forget about her bright future at Juilliard. Davy doesn’t feel any different, but genes don’t lie. One day she will kill someone.

Only Sean, a fellow HTS carrier, can relate to her new life. Davy wants to trust him; maybe he’s not as dangerous as he seems. Or maybe Davy is just as deadly.

The first in a two-book series, Uninvited tackles intriguing questions about free will, identity, and human nature. Steeped in New York Times bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s trademark mix of gripping action and breathless romance, this suspenseful tale is perfect for fans of James Patterson, Michelle Hodkin, and Lisa McMann.

I’m definitely excited for this one. I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about it, even if I thought Jordan’s other book, Firelight, was just an okay read. As for the other books, I’ve already read and enjoyed Cruel Beauty and am currently reading The Unbound. 🙂 Great post Rachel!

  2. I LOVED and adored Uninvited!!! So so so good. I got it for review last year and since I finished it I keep thinking about it. Its one of my favourite books ever.

I hadn’t looked into this book. The summary didn’t grab me, and I know you said you weren’t expecting how you would react based on its synopsis. So, when I read that and then that you still loved it, I was definitely intrigued. I read Firelight by her, and I enjoyed it but didn’t continue on with the series.Hearing this praise from you made me want to pick up the story. I’m so excited to hear how much you enjoyed this book- I learned about the Immortal Circus series from you as well when you first posted about the first book. There are a lot of new releases you mentioned that I’m excited for as well- The Unbound, Her Dark Curiosity, and Into the Still Blue are all part of series I want to read and have the first book for. I’m currently reading the Incarnate series, and so I’m excited for Infinite as well. Thanks for posting these, I always find new books from the posts, and now I’m especially looking forward to picking up Uninvited!
