Wow! It’s already Day Five of the 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge created and hosted by April of Good Books and Good Wine. If you haven’t yet joined in, what are you waiting for? It’s not too late. There are still ten whole days left!
But if you’d like to know more about this challenge first, be sure to check out the “Let’s Get It Started” post.
And with such fun topics as “blogging quirks” and “deal breakers” coming up in the next ten days, you won’t want to miss out.
But for today, the challenge is….
Day 5: Recommend a tear-jerker
Let me just start this by saying that it doesn’t take much to jerk a tear from me. I cry when I even suspect something sad is going to happen. Yeah, I’m emotional like that.
So nearly every book I read in which someone is left broken-hearted will elicit the strong feels and most likely the tears. So, I suppose, for purposes of today’s challenge, I’ll have to think of a book that left me in tears long after the read… or one I cried throughout.
Ahhh… well I guess that answers that. I have my book.
IF I STAY by Gayle Forman was a book that made me cry from beginning to end. They weren’t the ugly tears. I didn’t sob. But I could not stop my eyes from leaking.
For the entire book. And oh my gosh, just thinking about this story right now is making me tear up.
It was just so sad. What happened to Mia. What happened to her family. The choice she had to make….
Okay, I’m officially crying right now. Oh my gosh this post is a challenge!
Just thinking about having to go on in a world after you’ve lost practically everyone who meant anything to you is crushing. Absolutely crushing. And having to decide whether to stay or go after seeing what you’d be leaving behind if you left, and seeing what you’d be left with if you stayed, is a choice I’d never want to have to make.
It is just so unbelievably heartbreaking.
And with lines like – “I realize now that dying is easy. Living is hard.” – that ring so very true, how could anyone not fall to pieces when they read this book?
The writing is just so incredibly beautiful. Which makes this story that much more moving. Even with all the tears, I still managed to find over fifty passages that affected me. Deeply.
One of my favorites…
“I can lose you like that if I don’t lose you today. I’ll let you go. If you stay.”
Okay, I’m done. I’m a wreck. I can’t talk about this book anymore or I won’t be able to finish this post.
So… while SHADOW KISS by Richelle Mead brought me to tears and the aforementioned IF I DIE by Rachel Vincent and HARD BITTEN by Chloe Neill shredded my heart before mending it, IF I STAY is the book that caused an ocean’s worth of tears to fall.
But what about you? Did IF I STAY bring you to tears? Or was there another book you read that left you a sobbing mess?
And do you choose to read books knowing they’ll make you cry all the tears? Or do you try to avoid these books at all costs?
I’d love to know!
