ARC Giveaway: Siege and Storm

Siege and Storm ARC

When I traded for a number of ARCs a few months ago – my final trade – I was in a full-on reading mode at the time, fully committed to devouring books above all else. Then a few things derailed me from my goals in the book blogosphere. So I got behind. Way behind.

I got myself back on track, somewhat. But very recently some real life things have gotten in the way. And so my reading time has been cut short. Way short. So I’m likely only going to be reading the review books I’ve promised to review along with one or two must reads for the various challenges I’m participating in, like CLOCKWORK PRINCESS, et cetera.

And while I won’t be giving away any of the ARCs I received as gifts or those received from publishers, I will be giving away the ARCs I received through that final trade I did.

I’m still hoping to find a blogger friend I can just pass them along to, rather than hosting giveaways. But as I’ve been living in a self-imposed social media cave for the past few weeks, I haven’t had the time to reach out. And I don’t want too many more release dates to pass before I share these last few ARCs.

So, unless or until I reach out to a blogger or two, for the next couple of weeks I’ll be passing along these ARCs in giveaways either here or on The Annex.

And first up is SIEGE AND STORM by Leigh Bardugo, a book I have pre-ordered, but as I haven’t yet read the first book in the author’s The Grisha series I want to pass along this ARC so that someone who has can get the chance to read it just a bit earlier than its June release date.

The ARC itself looks to be read, though not by me, so I can’t confirm if there are missing pages or if there is any other damage.

This giveaway is open internationally, but only to those who have read the first book in the series already. After all, I’m giving this away so that someone can read it prior to release.

And for those who need a reminder of what will be in store for the characters in this second book in the series, here’s the description from Goodreads.

Darkness never dies.

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

My favorite part of the book was the Darkling 🙂

  5. I loved Leigh’s world-building! And the Darkling was pretty hot, too. 😉

  6. Oh, gosh. It’s so hard to pick! I have to say, I love the intricate Grisha hierarchy and world-building!

  7. I loved the fantasy and magic aspect of Shadow and Bone. And I never saw the Darkling actually being dark. Talk about throwing me through a loop!

  8. dsales26 says:

Shadow and Bone was phenomenal! I loved everything from the eloquent writing to the action and big reveals! It was definitely one of my fav’s from 2012!!!

  9. SHADOW AND BONE was my absolute TOP read of 2012. The writing style is incredibly captivating. The world is fully realized and is expertly delivered so as not to drown you in backstory. The MC is torn between a boy she loves from her youth and the mysterious and intriguing Darkling. The magic of the world is more like magical realism than epic fantasy. And, the cultural references to Russia add a great layer to the story.

I am DYING to get my hands on SIEGE AND STORM and I’d love to read and review. I’ll even send it back if you do get a chance to read SHADOW AND BONE and realize you WANT this book.

I’ve even read the 25 page preview of S&S on the FB page, and it is ZOMG amazing!! I can tell Leigh kicked up the stakes with book two just by the way she describes things in those first pages. I’m not asking, I’m full on, groveling, begging to win this. No JOKE.

  10. Farah says:

I loved the fact that the Darkling was ambiguous you never really knew what he is truely feeling.

  11. Kristia says:

Well everything about it! It was one of my favorite books last year. The writing and the story were amazing! And of course The Darkling!! <3 Even after all we know about him and what he does I still love him! Lol

  12. bn100 says:

    the characters

  13. Von P. says:

The best part is the characters!

  14. starryeyedjen29 says:

The Darkling! I love villainous characters that have love interest appeal, too! I can’t wait to see more of this character…and, of course, Alina and Mal, too. 🙂

  15. Erika says:

I haven’t read these yet but hope to soon! Love the dark theme! Thanks!

  16. Smash Attack says:

THE WORLD-BUILDING! *flails* And the Darkling’s mysteriousness.

  17. Leigh has a beautiful way of describing things. I just love it.

  18. Erin says:

My favorite part was probably Mal’s love confession, though the whole book was amazing!

  19. Penny Pe says:

It has to be the autor’s writing and fantastic descriptions!

  20. Christine H. says:

It’s not often that I love a book like I loved Shadow and Bone. Alina was a fantastic heroine; the Darkling the kind of fully realized villains that few YA novelists can really pull off; and the entire world was gorgeously described. I didn’t want to live in Ravka (who would, really?) but I wanted to stay inside Alina’s head for as long as possible.
I would seriously cherish this ARC if I won. That is all.

  21. Kayla Beck says:

    I absolutely loved the world-building!

  22. Kathy L. says:

    The Darkling of course!!!!
