There are so very many books releasing the week of March 12th – so many, in fact, that I only listed about half of the ones I have my eye on at the bottom of this post – but there’s no book I’m looking forward to more than POISON by Bridget Zinn.
Ever since I first saw this cover and read the description on Parajunkee’s blog last year, I have wanted to read this book. And I cannot believe it’s releasing in just under three weeks.
The cover looks absolutely magical, totally enchanting and super adorable, and the description is equally as fairytale-like.
I can’t wait to meet Kyra and find out why her poison dart misses. I can’t wait to see whether she is able to get a second chance at defeating the princess. And I cannot wait to meet the swoon-worthy Fred… and this “too-cute pig” that travels with her.
I am so super psyched that I have an early copy to read – both in eBook format and in print – so that I don’t have to wait until it releases. But I do have it pre-ordered so that I will be adding it to my permanent collection. And because I’m so madly in love with this cover I will be buying it in print, too.
Reading this book will also be bittersweet for me, as I’d heard of the author’s passing when I went to add it to my Goodreads bookshelf awhile back. But I am happy that I’ll get the opportunity to discover this debut author’s voice, even if this will be her only novel.
POISON sounds like it will be an enchanting and epic adventure with characters that I will easily fall in love with. And for these reasons, during this packed-full week of book releases, it is the book to watch.
And be sure to check out the author’s website for information on how you can help spread the word about POISON during the book’s release week. CLICK HERE for details.
Bridget grew up in Wisconsin. She went to the county fair where she met the love of her life, Barrett Dowell. They got married right before she went in for exploratory surgery which revealed she had colon cancer. They christened that summer the “summer of love” and the two celebrated with several more weddings. Bridget continued to read and write until the day she died. Her last tweet was “Sunshine and a brand new book. Perfect.”
Bridget wanted to make people laugh and hoped readers would enjoy spending time with the characters she created. As a librarian/writer she loved books with strong young women with aspirations. She also felt teens needed more humorous reads. She really wanted to write a book with pockets of warmth and happiness and hoped that her readers’ copies would show the watermarks of many bath time reads.
Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction—which means she’s the only one who can save it. Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom’s future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend.
But, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart . . . misses.
Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king’s army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. At least she’s not alone. She’s armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can’t stop thinking about. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her?
Kyra is not your typical murderer, and she’s certainly no damsel-in-distress—she’s the lovable and quick-witted hero of this romantic novel that has all the right ingredients to make teen girls swoon
