My Reading Pile #95

It was another super quiet week at the mailbox. Or it might have been. But I won’t know until after this post goes live. There wasn’t any mail on Tuesday due to the holiday and I decided that I was only going to check my mailbox once or twice a week – Tuesdays and Saturdays – unless I was expecting something.

So at the time of this post – which I have created early for a change – I had an empty mailbox. Again. But that’s okay. Because if you kept an eye on the new releases for January 1, 2013 you will have seen just how many awesome books released this past week, many of which are living on my Kindle just begging to be read.

nobooks

So while I don’t have any new physical books in my hands to devour, I have plenty on my shelves and eShelves. A couple that I will be devouring this week.

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.
(January 6, 2013 – January 12, 2013)

Altered

I couldn’t resist the chance to add ALTERED by Jennifer Rush to the reading pile this week. It downloaded on Tuesday and I keep having to fight the urge to click it to read. Even though all I see is a tiny image of the cover on my Kindle, it still calls to me.

But, as I mentioned in my Book Watch post last weekend, it’s not just cover love. I want to meet Anna and find out how the Branch has been altering the boys – Nick, Cas, Trev and Sam.

And I really want to find out what happens when Anna and Sam escape. Do they make it to safety? Are they caught? Do they find out about Sam’s past? Anna’s?

This book sounds so awesome and the cover… well, you know how I feel about that. So I really cannot wait to dive into it this week.

Spell Bound

I am finally taking the plunge. At least I hope I am. I actually read the first thirty or so pages of SPELL BOUND by Rachel Hawkins the night it downloaded but I had a review book I had to finish. Then I decided that I just couldn’t let the series end. Not then.

But now that there is a spin-off series, I just have to finish this one so I can start that one. And so I’m taking a deep breath and will dive in later this week. Because I really do have to find out just what happened with YKW after the ending in DEMONGLASS where YKW happened.

Nope, I still don’t know. And nope, distance has not made me any less desperate to find out just what did happen. Because I’m still super curious to get answers. Answers that the Goodreads description does not provide.

This would be the very first book I’d be reading for the 2103 TBR Pile Reading Challenge. And I really hope the fact that it is a series-ending book doesn’t dissuade me from reading it any longer.

Here’s to hoping I’ll be reading it later this week.

Wishful Thinking reads:

My Wishful Thinking read this week is a non-YA read. It’s one I’ve been wishing I could read for months and months. But I’ve been trying so very hard not to add it to the pile. Because I have no clue when the next book in the series is releasing and I’m afraid if I do catch up the wait will be too much to bear.

Oh, and if you haven’t guessed – how could you? – I’m talking about ONE GRAVE AT A TIME by Jeaniene Frost. That is the only book left in the series that is still to be read. A book I chose not to read until closer to the release of the next book in the series. But as I still can’t seem to find out when that is, it makes the waiting that much more challenging.

So, for right now I’m keeping this a book I wish I could read rather than moving it to the top of the pile. But I won’t be able to hold out much longer. I miss Cat and Bones!

Those left behind:

I got a little side-tracked this past week and did not end up reading SPELLCASTER. It was a holiday week and I found myself writing reviews, getting ahead on posts and finishing a couple books I should have finished reading ages ago – WHAT THE SPELL and INDIGO AWAKENING.

Plus I did finish THE DEAD AND BURIED – which I love, love, loved – and my review will be going up on Wednesday. And I did end up reading SUMMERSET ABBEY which was absolutely wonderful and scandalous and gorgeous. I just have to write that review. Which I hopefully will have time to do on Sunday.

But if I finish my review early enough on Sunday I’ll jump right into SPELLCASTER. Because that is a book I definitely don’t want to be a “back on the pile” read.

Oh, and I did write my review for NEVERFALL which will post on the blog this week. Though I posted it everywhere else already just in case I forget. I have that tendency when I schedule my reviews to post more than a few days out.

So it was a fairly productive week even though last week’s read was left behind. But hopefully that situation will be remedied tomorrow.

NetGalley Pile Adds:

I did get approved for two AWESOME titles that I desperately wanted to add to the pile this week – though I think both books will be on next week’s pile because… well, just because. They are…

Poison cover               Dance of Shadows cover

Amazing, right? I’m so excited. I never thought I’d get the chance to read either book early!

Anyway… as I am creating this post a couple days earlier than I normally would – and because it was a holiday week this week – there aren’t as many new adds on NetGalley. But here are a couple new reads I noticed. And it’s very likely they’ve been there for awhile.

Ilsa J. Bick’s THE SIN EATER’S CONFESSION (Carolrhoda Lab) looks interesting. As does Ruta Sepetys’ OUT OF THE EASY (Philomel).

And I’m kind of fascinated by the cover and description for Chelsea Pitcher’s THE S WORD (Gallery Books).

While I haven’t yet requested any of those titles I’m really tempted.

So no new books for me this week. No physical books, that is. The two I got approved for on NetGalley are so amazing and I can’t wait to devour them next week.

But this week I have a couple awesome books I am hoping to read. Fingers are still crossed. Of course after finishing this post all of a sudden I find myself in the mood to read THE ARCHIVED by Victoria Schwab. Hmmm…. Well that would be an awesome “off-pile” read.

I’ll let you know next week if I ended up diving into it instead of sticking to my planned reads.

As I’ve rambled on a little longer than I usually do, I’ll keep this last portion of the post brief. But I’m kind of excited to be just a little bit ahead with my posts and I’m really hoping this momentum lasts for awhile into the new year.

I totally blame the awesome design I have thanks to Parajunkee Design for helping me get ahead on my posts. It makes formatting and creating these posts a ton of fun. It’s like I have a whole new canvas to work with and a totally different color palette.

Though it does make it that much more difficult to dive back into those books when I’m just as happy playing around with my posts.

But with awesome books like ALTERED and SPELL BOUND to keep me company, I think I’ll manage to find a way to step away from the blog. For a short while anyway.

So….

That sign-off wasn’t quite as short as I had planned. But plans and I aren’t always the best of friends. Here’s to hoping I can finish this post in under a hundred words.

Anyway….

I hope you had a productive reading week this first week of the new year. I hope you have some awesome books on the pile this week. And I hope you haven’t fallen behind on your reading goals just yet.

As always, I would love to know what you’re planning on reading this week and if you’ve received any awesome books you are just dying to brag about. Feel free to leave a link so that I – or anyone stopping by – can check out your post.

Happy reading!

You are not alone- I too haven’t read Spell Bound. Even I’m surprised, seeing as how Demon Glass ended it what I call an epic cliffie. (Seriously. I thought something was wrong and the book got cut off.) I kinda forgot about it, so thanks for reminding me about it. :) I hope you do finish it though- and get to read The Indigo Spell and Spellcaster- they sound amazing, and I’m dying to read them both! And Dance of the Shadow’s cover- just wow. You’re so lucky to have been approved for it! :)

And your new design IS amazing. I don’t blame you for loving it one bit. ;) And on my reading pile this week is Iced by Karen Marie Moning. It’s a huge book, but I’m hoping I finish it soon and read The Golden Lily next. :D

  2. I still need to read Spellbound too!
    Love the new look!!!

I didn’t get any physical books this week either but I got a tonne of kindle books in the kindle sale so that’s good. I’m excited to read them all. You definitely should read the latest cat and bones, I’ve seen it could be December (!!) when the new one is out and you definitely deserve to read no.6 now ;)

    Cait x

  4. I loved Summerset Abbey! I still haven’t gotten to What the Spell yet either. I started it and then put it aside for books that seemed more appealing at the time. I have to get back to it ASAP. I have The S-Word and Sin Eaters Confession to read. Those both sound fantastic.

  5. I loved the Hexhall series and can’t wait to read School Spirits. I am also currently reading and trying to finish Indigo Awakening though put it down this week to read The NIght Circus which I am really enjoying and hope to finish today or tomorrow at the latest (At which point I will finish Indigo Awakening).

As for books I received this week, I had a pretty good mailbox week and the link to that is here: http://sapphireddragon.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/in-my-mailbox-47.html

PS Still very jealous you are getting to read Spellcaster early :-P

  6. Apologies if this posts twice but i think the interwebs ate my original comment :-(

I think I would have rather you had gotten TONS of books instead of torturing me by letting me know you’re -finally- reading the last book T_T
    Spell Bound T_T
I was happy of not having it because YOU hadn’t read it… It was all good in my world :’(

Now I’ve got to get it… Because well… Even though I KNOW I’ll BAWL my eyes out #TeamC
    :’(

On other news… You got approved for Poison… Is it… Lol A while ago I made a post about that book… Don’t know if you saw it… But when I first saw the book cover… I instantly knew I would have a little bit of a hard time reading it… -I know, lame, but book covers are *_* -
Anyway… It looks TOO much, for my comfort, like the Movie Poster of Snow White & The Huntsman…

    Anyway…
HAPPY READING!! IF you can get away of the gorgeousness of this blog…
As I said before *_* Makes me want to linger here, hence you receiving TONS of emails notifying you of my comments today :D
