2013 TBR PILE Reading Challenge

Welcome to 2013 TBR PILE Reading Challenge!!!

We all have those books. We buy them, win them, they’re gifted to us. Then we put them up on a bookshelf and there they stay, collecting dust, waiting for the time when we’ll finally decide to pick them up.

Join us on a quest to dust off your TBR Pile and read all the books you’ve been telling yourself you’ll read next time you’ll get a chance. This is your chance! And we’ve got PRIZES!!!

I am SO EXCITED to be participating in this year-long reading challenge. I have so many books from 2012 and earlier that are just begging to be read. And I can’t WAIT to get started. This challenge was the perfect excuse for me to do so!

Though I am going to try and be as realistic as possible and choose a “level” that won’t make me an instant failure. I’ve included the start of my list at the end of this post.

I HOPE you’ll decide to join in on the fun, because I’d love to see what books you’ve been dying to read but haven’t.

Challenge Guidelines…

***This challenge will run from Jan 1, 2013 – Dec 31, 2013***

+ Anyone can enter! You don’t have to be a blogger, as long as you review the book you’ve read! (On your blog, Amazon, Goodreads or Shelfari!)

+ Any genre, length or format of book counts, as long as it is a book that’s been sitting on your shelf for some time now. Only books released in 2012 or earlier! NO  2013 ARCs or 2013 fresh-off-the-press releases allowed!

+ You can list your books in advance or just put them in a wrap-up post. If you list them, feel free to change them as the mood suits you.

+ When you sign up in the linky, put the direct link to your post about joining the 2013 TBR PILE Reading Challenge.

+ You can move up levels, but no moving down.

+ Sign-ups will be open until Dec 15, 2013, so feel free to join at any time throughout the year.

+ On the 20th of each month one of the hosts will post a wrap-up. Every wrap-up will be a unique theme, and include a mini-challenge, a giveaway and place for you to link up your reviews from that monthFor each review you link up, you will get one entry in a drawing of one book of your choice from The Book Depository. It’s open to INTERNATIONALS. The giveaway will be open until the next wrap up post goes up! (i.e., the entire year).

+ If you miss a wrap-up post + giveaway, you can link up your reviews next month. Do not, however, try to link up one review twice – we will be checking.

+ December is a wrap-up for the whole year. All the book reviews you linked up January-November + the ones you’ll link up in December will be entered into a HUGE giveaway for a box of books.

You don’t have to follow all the hosts to join the challenge, but you do have to follow all of us to be entered in the giveaways!

My 2013 TBR PILE…

I am going to be ambitious, but not too ambitious and choose to start off at the “A Sweet Kiss” level. That’s right, I’m going to add 21-30 books from 2012 or earlier to my TBR PILE for this challenge.

While I haven’t decided on all the books I’ll be reading, here are just a few, in no particular order.

HOURGLASS by Myra McEntire

TIMEPIECE by Myra McEntire

UNDER THE NEVER SKY by Veronica Rossi

AFTERLIFE by Claudia Gray

DARKEST MERCY by Melissa Marr

THE GOLDEN LILY by Richelle Mead

SILENCE by Becca Fitzpatrick

FINALE by Becca Fitzpatrick

THE SAVAGE GRACE by Bree Despain

ENDURE by Carrie Jones

PURE by Jennifer L. Armentrout

DEITY by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Anyway… I should stop right now before I end up going totally off challenge pile during the challenge to read other releases from 2012 and earlier.

So, all that’s left to do is…

This sounds so amazing and is absolutely perfect! I’ll try to get my “joining the challenge” post up asap. I’ll probably go for the “A Friendly Hug” level, any more would definitely be unrealistic for me. 😉

    This is way cool!!! 😀

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Oh awesome Ina, so glad you’re joining in. It’s the perfect excuse to read those books caught on the TBR pile!

  2. I’m so in! I’ll keep it simple and go with A Friendly Hug, and see what goes from there.

  3. Daisy says:

YAY!!! This is exactly what I needed to read more of my own books!! Thanks so much for hosting 😀

    • Fiktshun009 says:

You’re so welcome and I’m so glad you’re on board Daisy! 🙂 It will be fun to see what books you decide to add to the list this year. There are just so many awesome books that get left behind. I’m hoping for the both of us that we finally get to read a few of them!

  4. I’m going to do this. This is the time that I’ll actually start and finish a challenge, I can feel it. I have a bunch of YA and non-YA books that are just begging to be read, so this is just what I need to get started on them. I love the idea of reading along with other people 🙂

    • I love your challenge banner btw, so…heavenly in a way 😀

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Oh good luck with starting and finishing a challenge! I’m hoping to do so too. When I was offered the chance to join in I had to say yes because I’m desperate to get those books on my shelves read. It’s my goal for this year so the challenge was perfect.

If those books of your are begging to be read then you totally should listen to them! It’s not easy to ignore begging books. 🙂 And yes it’ll be great fun knowing a bunch of us are all joining in and reading some amazing unread books from our shelves! So glad you decided to join!

  5. You just reminded me I need to add Timepiece to my list! I have sooo many unread books it is really sad. LOL I only completely 21 books for last years challenge when I was thinking I would read 50. New releases just look so good and take me away from the books on my shelf. I am locking myself down and really going to try to make a dent in the books I own and won because I hate to have great books just getting dusty on my shelves.

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Oh no, sorry to add yet another book to your list! New releases are tempting. Too tempting, LOL. I hope you get the chance to read a few more of those books you own. Fingers crossed!

  6. Lindsey says:

Excited I’m #59 on the list! I’m happy to get to participate this year!

  7. I really need to participate in this as I have a TON of books in my TBR pile…but I need to work on my books to list for this challenge–will post soon (Before Dec 15).
    Great post!

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Thanks! And it’s the perfect challenge for that. Evie is awesome to have come up with such a great idea. It’s so easy to get caught up on new releases and forget those older ones on the pile.

  8. Mary says:

Should these be books that we have already bought or are books from our Goodreads TBR list ok too?

    • Fiktshun009 says:

I think it will be just fine to choose a book that has been sitting on your TBR list whether you own it or not!

  9. Just Signed up!!
I so need to do this, and I’m going to try for A Sweet Kiss 😀

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Oh yay, welcome aboard! I can’t wait to check out your progress over the year. Good luck with the challenge!

  10. Chanpreet says:

I’ve signed up for the challenge and read my first book. I’m not sure where to post the link for my first review. I’m lost!

I’m being ambitious and going for the married with children level.

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Hi Chanpreet, wow you read and reviewed your book on the first day of the challenge? That was fast! And awesome. Yay for ambitious!

On the 20th of every month one of the blog hosts will be writing a wrap-up post where you can post any and all of the links to the books read and reviewed. The first month will be at Evie Bookish’s blog.

  11. Aly P says:

I have a Q: can books from other challenges count in this one as well? If so I am in!

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Absolutely! As long as it’s a book from 2012 or before and not an ARC for a book releasing this year, you are more than welcome to share review links for books you read and reviewed for multiple challenges!

      So glad you’re joining in!

  12. sabryy9ems says:

    Hello 🙂
I’m a romanian blogger and I really want to sign up. Is it all right if I write the reviews in romanian? Of course, just some of them, because I have a lot of review books from authors.

    • Fiktshun009 says:

I don’t see a problem with that and the main host didn’t specify that reviews must be in English. So I say yes! But perhaps when you link them just add (in Romanian) in parentheses next to your review so we know in advance if the review isn’t in English. Good luck with your 2013 reading challenge!

  13. Oh this sounds like fun! I’m definitely in! I have so many books on my TBR pile so I’d love to try this.

Oh and btw, I absolutely love your blog and the design. It’s so pretty!!!

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Hi Martina! And YAY! It will be a lot of fun I hope. I really must read a few of my books that have been sitting on the shelves. 🙂

And thank you so much. I love the new design too. Rachel at Parajunkee made me happy to start 2013 with the new look! 🙂

  14. Lindsey says:

I’m already signed up, but I wondered… do audiobooks count at all?

  15. Jennifer says:

Hi there! This was a goal of mine for this year, anyway. Now I have a bit more motivation to keep it going, lol!!! Do you have some form of the challenge banner I can add to my site, to show it’s one of the challenges I’m doing?

    • Jennifer says:

NEVER MIND, lol… apparently, I’m blind, lol 🙂

      • Fiktshun009 says:

Also if you head over to Evie Bookish (who is linked in the post) she had the more pinkish girl-y one that matches this post banner. Sadly I can’t include grab code in my wordpress posts like I can on my blogger posts. 🙁

  16. readerjamie says:

    I’m all signed up!

  17. Aly P says:

Is the January post up? 😀

    • Fiktshun009 says:

I finally heard back from Evie, the event creator, and she’s going to get it up ASAP on her blog! Sorry for the delay!
