A blog for all things fiction

Top 10 of 2012

I cannot believe that 2012 is almost over. I’m not entirely certain what happened to at least a few of the past eleven months… but I am super excited that it’s almost time for…

Top 10 of 2012: A Week of Looking Back….
                                  …and Looking Forward.

What is Top 10 of 2012? It’s a fun-filled week where we look back at some of the best of “all things books” of 2012 and what books we’re looking forward to in 2013.

***

Last year was a blast co-hosting the event with some of my favorite fellow bloggers – Lisa from A Life Bound By Books, Jessica from Confessions of a Bookaholic, Jaime from Two Chicks on Books - and this year were excited to have the awesome Mindy from Magical Urban Fantasy Reads join us in co-hosting the event.

The event runs for five consecutive days, the last week of the year. Five days of some of our favorite lists and we invite ALL of YOU to join in on the fun and share your lists with everyone too!

Each day of the event we hope you’ll visit one of the hosting blogs and share your list in the Linky that will be provided. Just be sure you follow which list goes on which day.

Speaking of… here’s what we’re doing for this years event -

MONDAY, DECEMBER 24th – Best Books I’ve Read in 2012 (Doesn’t have to be released in 2012, just a book you’ve read in 2012)

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 25th – Best Book Covers of 2012 (MUST be a book released in 2012. Would be best if it’s a book you’ve READ in 2012, but it’s not required)

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26th – Best ________ of 2012 (Reader’s/Blogger’s choice. Please fill in the blank with ONE of these topics – Villains, Contemporaries, Dual POV’s, Novellas, Adult titles, New Adult titles, Love Triangles, Couples, Bad Boys or Debuts. REMEMBER – this list MUST be from books you’ve READ in 2012)

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 27th – Best Book Boyfriends of 2012 (MUST be from a book released in 2012 and from a book you’ve READ in 2012)

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 28th - Top 10 Books I’m Looking Forward To in 2013 (This list should be comprised of books released ONLY in 2013)

How you do these posts/lists is totally up to you. What books, covers and characters you pick are all your own.

The only rules to follow are posting the topics on the dates we’ve provided.

Now, I know what you’re all thinking. That this will be hard to keep to 10. Some of you might like to break the lists up a bit. Working with a Top 10 for YA books and then a Top 10 for Adult titles. Feel free to add honorable mentions if you’re also having a hard time sticking to 10. However, with the honorable mentions, please try to keep it to a minimum or it kind of defeats the whole purpose of things.

{Oh my gosh, this new guideline about the “honorable mentions” is going to KILL ME! Last year I may have gone overboard in listing ALL the books I could remember off the top of my head that I’m looking for in 2012…. I wonder if this “rule” was added because of that….}

Our main focus of this event is for YOU to join in and share your lists with us all and for everyone to visit each other’s blogs and see what books have made it on THEIR lists.

The event is simple. Follow the dates and list topics as provided for your posts and fill out the linky below to sign up. This gives us an idea who will be joining us for the Top 10 Week.

THEN, be sure to come back to one of our blogs on each of the five days and link up your post for that specific day! Just remember, each day will have a Linky for THAT Top 10 topic.

Also, you don’t want to miss a day during the event. We just might have some giveaways up our sleeves, and joining in the event, keeping up with our and everyone’s lists just might help you enter to win! Additional giveaway details to follow, so keep checking back to find out what we’re giving away and when!

And don’t forget to snag our button – THE GRAB CODE IS BELOW THE BUTTON IN THE SIDEBAR – and to help spread the word for the event. We’d love to have anyone and everyone join us this year. The more the merrier!

NOTE: this is the SAME Linky on each of the Co-Hosts Blogs, so please only enter your Name, Blog Name and URL on one blog. Thanks!

Be sure to take the button provided for the event and display it on your blog and link it back to THIS POST so anyone who wants to find out more info about the event easily knows how to find us.

We hope everyone who reads this will be as excited for this event as we are and we can’t wait to check out all of your lists!

  1. I loved this event last year. I also have a really hard time sticking to only 10! LOL

I’m so glad I’m not the only one with a problem sticking with 10. I really do wonder if they added in that note because of my inability to get even close. LOL! I don’t set the best example. :( But it was so much fun last year and I was so thrilled Lisa and Jessica invited me back again this year! I can’t wait to check out your top “ten” lists at year end! :)

  2. I’m so excited about it. Probably makes sense seeing how I just recently asked you about the event and all, but anyways.. I’m *really* looking forward to all the posts and leaving comments and bloghopping, and seeing books I have to check out. /asdkjh

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Me too! :) And it does. I wasn’t sure, until you asked, if it was happening again this year or if I’d be in the group of hosts. So very excited. :) I love checking out everyone’s year-end lists and finding new ones, especially the upcoming 2013 books to check out.

I really should create my posts early… but I might read a new book between now and year-end that I’d want on the list, LOL.

  3. Yay! I’ve been thinking about this one recently as it was so much fun last year.

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Yay back! So glad you’re doing it again this year. It was a LOT of fun. I love these year-end events, it really does bring together the community of bloggers. :)

  4. Great, I’m in again, loved it last year :)

It will be so tough to choose only 10 best books, with all the amazing books I’ve read so far this year, but I’ll try to do it ;)

Thanks again for hosting, I know it will be lots of fun :D

    • Fiktshun009 says:

So glad you’re in again! :) They do allow honorable mentions if sticking with 10 is too hard. Of course I don’t know how I’ll be able to do it either. Good luck to you! And thank you for joining!

Hi, Rachel, just a quick question about the Book Boyfriends theme, I just noticed this, so does it have to be only from books published in 2012, last year I think it was from any book as long as we read it that year. It’s just that I already have enough trouble coming up with 10 guys, (I’m one of the minority who rarely crushes on the guys in books) so when I was compiling the list & noticed it said only for 2012 books, I have no idea where I’ll come up with them, so just wondering if it will be fine if I list less then 10, if they have to be 10 (I guess they’ll have to be since it’s Top 10 of 2012), I guess I’ll just fill it with guys I liked.

        • Fiktshun009 says:

Hey Aleksandra, I think the rules were pretty strict on it being from books read in 2012 AND from 2012 versus last year. That being said… Maybe you use the term more literally like your favorite male protags that are the boyfriends of the main character versus ones you crush on yourself? Like for example Dimitri is the perfect boyfriend for Rose… Or Tod versus Nash, Will versus Cadan, Adam versus Warner. Just someone you think is the perfect boyfriend for the MC? Otherwise you do not have to choose 10. And you can always say that you just don’t have 10 from 2012 and make it books you’ve read in 2012. Rules are made to be broken are they not?

          • Aleksandra says:

Ok, thanks Rachel :) I was actually thinking only on the guys I’m crushing myself, no matter their part in the book. I guess only a few of those on my list will be my reaI crushes, the rest will be just guys I really liked as characters or as you said I liked them as a couple with the MC :)
Too bad I won’t be able to use the guys I really crushed on this year, but at least I can still use Tod & Loki, so I’ve got 2 so far ;)
Thanks again, now to do my list & find the rest :)

    I love this top 10!
    thanks for the hosting.

  6. smiling_ina says:

I’ll definitely be participating, though I’m ashamed to admit, I’m not sure I’ll be able to come up with 10 books for each one. *blushes* I will try my very best though. :D

  7. Definitely in on this one! Now it’s time to start pulling those lists together ;)

  8. Okay I am excited and nervous all at once! Nervous because I know I will never be able to keep it to 10 or what if I can’t even think of 10 OMG! Okay I have time to think about it! Awesome should be fun! Thanks! :)

  9. I loved doing this last year, I’ve been thinking about my lists already!

  10. This is great. I can’t wait to share mine. And I agree with everyone else, this is going to be hard! 2012 was a great year for books gah!

    • Fiktshun009 says:

2012 was an amazing year for books and 2013 looks to be just as amazing. I’m not good to sticking to just 10 but I’m really going to try this year. Good luck!

  11. This sounds like a lot of fun – although I will also have a hard time sticking to 10! =) I think the honorable mentions are a great idea – that should help…in theory anyway. =) Can’t wait!

    • Fiktshun009 says:

I couldn’t imagine really sticking with Ten Favorites. I mean I have so many favorites, choosing just ten is almost always impossible. But I had a few too many honorable mentions last year, I think I’m going to have to mention just a few less. Good luck to you to keeping your ten to under fifty. :)

  12. Emilee says:

I can’t wait for this! Its going to be a blast! My only problem is going to be that the “boyfriends” list has to be of books released this year..Read this year is easy, Released….I don’t think i’ll be able to come up with 10!

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Ahh that will be tough. Though maybe if you’ve “met” a boy in an earlier book in a series that has a later book released this year you can add that boy even if you haven’t read the latest installment in the series. It did say released, not read.

  13. I’m a new blogger so I just discovered this but I’m so glad I did! It seems like it will be a great way to help sum up my year in reading and to let my new followers know what I like to read. Thanks for hosting this!
