Happy Halloween and a Giveaway

Oct 30

This year Halloween snuck up on me. One day it was early August, and the next it’s time for ghouls, goblins and ghosts. It’s time to stock up on the good candy so the trick-or-treaters don’t egg my front door. It’s time to move some of my favorite spooky reads to the top of my reading pile.

Because Halloween only comes once a year. And as it’s my favorite non-Holiday here in the U.S. it’s one that I like to celebrate. In my own way. By reading chilling tales of horror. And by watching movies through my caged fingers, because I couldn’t possibly watch them without that protective shield.

I also prefer when Halloween falls on a Sunday. Because that means I can sit through the hours-long movie marathon on AMC. But as tomorrow is a work day – yes I’m posting this just a few hours early – I won’t get the true screamfest experience I love.

But I shall not let that deter me from my enjoyment of the day. Who says I can’t be productive with the sounds of John Carpenter’s haunting Halloween score in the background? Who says I’ll be distracted by Jamie Lee Curtis’ blood-curdling screams? Definitely not I!

Of course, if Ichabod Crane were to meet up with the Headless Horseman then all bets are off. Because The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is still the most frightful tale I’ve ever read and one that’s given me more nightmares than any other story.

Anyway….

If you couldn’t tell that I was a fan of All Hallow’s Eve before now, you can probably guess by the way I’ve dressed up my blog. Or by this amazing custom graphic I purchased from Parajunkee Design.

And in the spirit of Halloween – yes there’s a spirit of Halloween – I thought I’d host a giveaway. I promise it’s no trick, just a treat.

And while these may not be the scariest of tales – I’m restricting this to young adult reads only – they are most definitely books that I call treats.

  1. I love reading on Halloween. I always walk around when the kids are out and about so that I can see all of the decorated houses and hear the different sounds of Halloween. I really wish that I lived on the east coast so that I could experience the crunchy leaves and different colors. Thanks for the giveaway! :)
