SWEET PERIL (The Sweet Evil Trilogy #2) by Wendy Higgins

Coming April 30, 2013

HarperTeen

I am so incredibly thrilled and excited and honored… and maybe just a little bit more excited to be a part of tonight’s cover reveal for author Wendy Higgins’ SWEET PERIL.

I have been madly in love with this series since the moment I saw the cover for SWEET EVIL, long before its release. And after I read the description for that first book in this series I was a goner.

When HarperTeen picked up this second book in the series I was over the moon. Because that meant there would definitely be another awesome cover coming soon.

Well, it’s finally here!

My Thoughts

I love this cover. It is definitely sexy. And looks absolutely gorgeous next to book one’s cover.

While it doesn’t have the same dark mystery that the first cover does, it is somehow even more ominous with the red tones in the sky. I love that the fog is still creeping up on the two cover models, but it’s not as prevalent as it was on the first book’s cover. And I love the contrast between the dark brush and the lighter sky, which really makes Kaidan and Anna stand out.

I love that they switched positions and now Kaidan’s on the left and Anna’s on the right, which really makes the covers look amazing when paired. I also love how on the first book’s cover Kaidan appeared to be brooding and Anna had a shy, sweet look, but on this cover it’s Kaidan who looks softer and Anna who looks more fierce. It makes me very curious as to just how things have changed in this sequel.

And if that’s not enough, I love how both models are now dressed in black, connecting them in a way they hadn’t been on the first cover. And how the blackness of the brush in the background swallows everything up, making it appear as if Kai and Anna are a part of the blackness.

Even though the placement of the tiles isn’t exactly the same for both covers, I love that they kept the continuity with the title font, graphic and byline.

While both covers are quite different, they complement each other very well. And I cannot wait to see what they look like side-by-side on my bookshelf.

But that’s what I think….

What do you think of SWEET PERIL‘s cover? Do you love it as much or more than the cover for SWEET EVIL? Do you think they’d look amazing side-by-side on your bookshelf?

Do you love that Anna and Kaidan are now both dressed in black? Does it make you a little worried about Anna’s future? Or are you more worried for Kaidan given the seriously fierce look on Anna’s face in this cover?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this cover for SWEET PERIL.

About the Book

Anna Whitt, daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a claim. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

  1. Still not done with the dresses I see. I do like it. Maybe even better than the first cover. Can’t wait to read it.

No they’re not. Not quite yet anyway. :)

But this dress is a bit more simple. Not quite as elaborate. Perhaps more realistic for a teen.

Besides, somehow I just don’t see the son of the Duke of Lust “lusting” after a girl in ratty jeans and a band T, though they can be just as sexy. :)

OMG, I LOVE IT!!!! I can’t wait for Sweet Peril! I had so much fun participating in the SE Read-Along. Now the waiting begins for this beauty! :D

Mindy’s read along was awesome! And the waiting is really, really going to be a torture! So glad that Harper picked this one up, though!

  3. That is exactly it! Now Anna is the one that looks fierce in this cover instead of Kaidan. And is it me, or does she also looked supper pissed? Not that I blame her…I love everything about this cover.

    • Fiktshun009 /

She does kind of look super pissed. I hope Kaidan didn’t do anything more “wrong” than he already did, but somehow I think he might just tick her off in this sequel. :)

  4. I definitely love it. Can’t wait to have Sweet Peril next to Sweet Evil on my bookshelf. :D

Harper did some amazing covers for these two books! And I like the name change to Peril versus Hope. Much more sinister and fits with Anna’s fierce expression.

  5. Pretty! :D It’ll look so good on my shelf :) I want to own that dress…

    • Fiktshun009 /

Oh my gosh yes! The other ruched dress would not have been ideal, but this one is SWEET! Of course I’d rather have the book on my shelf right about now!

  6. Somehow I like the first cover more, but I like your in depth description on the cover ;) Although, I can totally see the continuation in here. The first book compared with the second looks more mellow, as it’s the beginning, but in the second book the stakes are higher so the feel of the cover is a little more ominous and dangerous, it’s really thoughtful of the the designer to do that. What I like about the first book is that the red dress of the girl contrasts with the gray forest background really well. I really like the font though, I love this kind of style, and cursive ones too, as long as the font looks elegant, I am all for it ;)

  7. Can I sue whoever made this?
It’s too pretty to be real and too dangerous for people with weak hearts… JUST LIKE ;ME!!!
    T_T And my poor heart!!
I simply love love love, love everything! I even like this better than the first one… specially the dress!!!
