Days of Blood and Starlight is the sequel to Daughter of Smoke and Bone by author Laini Taylor. The third book in the series, as yet untitled, is slated for release in 2013.
While there is another book I’m anxiously awaiting, I had to choose DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT by Laini Taylor as the book to watch for the week of November 6th. I heard nothing but amazing things about the first book in the series and I’ve heard this sequel is even more awesome.
Which has made me that much more desperate to get my hands on it. Especially since I have been waiting – not so patiently – for this sequel so that I could finally pick up book one and not have to wait between releases.
That’s right. I made the decision to withhold my read to avoid the torturous – and somewhat tortuous – wait. I refused to meet Karou and Akiva of the “fire-colored eyes.” I am still in the dark about who or what she is and why her hair grows bright blue.
And I am just as clueless as to what the secrets are that are hinted at in the description and why this is a star-crossed love story.
I knew from the moment I took a peek inside Daughter of Smoke and Bone that I could and would so very easily get caught up in the story. And so I fought the urge to keep reading. And I waited. And waited.
But I can’t hold out for much longer. And I know I won’t be able to wait for book three’s release before I dive in.
Because I want to know what happens to Karou in this sequel. I want to find out if she “come[s] to terms with who and what she is.” I want to know if she will seek vengeance. And I want to discover this story that promises “heartbreak and beauty” and “mysteries and secrets.”
This series sounds utterly enchanting and imaginative and unique. And this second book in the series sounds like it will not only continue the story from the first book but will take it to an entirely new level. So it is for these reasons – as if they aren’t enough – and because this sequel is one of my most anticipated releases this fall, I just had to spotlight it this week.

About the Book
[stextbox id=”custom” color=”ffffff” bcolor=”a92123″ bgcolor=”14100f” big=”true”]
Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.
This is not that world.
Art student and monster’s apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is–and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it.
In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she’ll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life.
While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope.
But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?
