Covet Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway
Oct 12
When I heard that Harlequin TEEN was putting together a tour for Melissa Darnell’s COVET through Kismet Book Touring I just had to take a chance on being a part of the tour. I had fallen very much in love with the cover for CRAVE last year and was desperate to get the chance to read it.
Of course time passed, and all of a sudden the sequel was released and I still hadn’t had the chance to move it to the top of the pile. Well, I was hell bent on remedying that grievous error. So, when I heard that I was accepted onto the tour (YAY!) I moved CRAVE and COVET to the top of the pile and devoured both books.
Which were super quick reads. And a lot of fun. Though COVET was a bit more… okay a lot more… heartbreaking. But my lips are sealed as to why.
I love the idea of the all-powerful Clann pitted against the equally powerful and dangerous Vampires. I love the forbidden love story. And I love that Savannah was willing to sacrifice her heart… but I won’t say why that is, either. Sorry!
While I don’t have a release date for the third book in the series, CONSUME, I will be picking it up when it releases next year to find out just what is in store for the characters.
But in the meantime, for the tour, I have a super cool guest post on “Who and What are the Clann?” by the author, along with a giveaway for a copy of the book and a chance at an unbelievably awesome prize pack. Both courtesy of the publisher. So, be sure to check it out!
And also be sure to visit the other stops on the tour for more chances to win. They are linked below.
First, though, here is just a little bit…
Savannah Colbert knows she broke up with Tristan Coleman for the right reasons. Most of all, to keep from killing him with her new vampire abilities. But try telling her heart. Now, lost in a sea of hostile Clann faces, Sav tries to come to terms with what she’s becoming and what that means for her future. And that someone is doing their best to bully her into making a terrible mistake.
Tristan can’t believe Sav won’t even talk to him. If being apart is her decision, fine. Just don’t expect him to honor it. But even as he prepares to fight for the girl he loves, forces beyond their control take them both in directions neither could have foreseen or prepared for.
A reckoning is coming…and not everyone will survive.

Who and what are the Clann?
The Clann is Irish Gaelic for “family” or “descendant”. They are a powerful group of families who originated in Ireland, probably from druids, before they immigrated to America and ultimately chose East Texas as their main headquarters (though Clann descendants are spread out all over the world to help secure a widespread power base).
Their magical abilities are not religiously based; rather they are a dominant trait passed down through their families (like eye color, or being tall), so everyone born into one of the Clann families is almost guaranteed to have at least a small amount of magical ability. However, like a muscle, these abilities have to be used or they will atrophy. Also, training is needed to help each descendant learn how to control their power.
Young teen descendants have the toughest time learning how to control their abilities. Grounding is a fundamental lesson each descendant must learn so that they can safely siphon off excess energy, or power, into the ground. This prevents the excess power from accidentally lashing out in dangerous and uncontrolled ways that could hurt the descendant or others around them. When a descendant uses power, all other descendants within that same area feel the use of that power as a prickling, “pins and needles” sensation along the back of their neck and down their arms.
Advanced level descendants learn that the true secret to controlling their abilities is through controlling their willpower, and almost any spell can be made by focusing that willpower within their mind. Once they learn this, advanced descendants don’t even need to speak or use a hand gesture to send out a spell. This can be a crucial life saving method in situations where a descendant is unable to speak or move. However, if they are unconscious or unable to focus their thoughts enough to concentrate their willpower, their abilities will be rendered temporarily ineffective.
Also, it is important for all descendants to remember that every spell is energy based and will eventually fade or run out if tested or fought against long enough. Each spell lasts depending on how much energy is injected into it by its caster, as well as the resistance it is met with. So for instance a car protection spell will last depending on how much willpower was injected into it, how often others or natural events try to cause harm to that car, and how often the spell’s creator adds more energy into the spell to restrengthen it.
Descendants who fall in love with other descendants have the special ability of tapping into each other’s unconscious minds when they are both asleep, regardless of the miles separating their physical bodies. However, there are spells that can be deployed to block this connection.
Through strategic networking and use of both Clann-specific abilities as well as good old fashioned politics and money, the Clann has ensured its power as a whole by positioning its members into beneficial roles at the local, state and federal levels of government. The Colemans, who have led the Clann for the last four generations, are expected to continue their leadership role for the foreseeable future, with Tristan Coleman to follow in his father Sam’s footsteps.
They have some pretty seriously awesome abilities. Especially as a group. I would not want to get on their bad side, that’s for sure. It must be pretty amazing to be able to connect in dreams, but I’m sure it’s also a hassle if you want to keep your thoughts private.
I’m still not sure whose side I’m on. Tristan’s, definitely. But some of those Clann descendants are a bit too power hungry for their own – and everyone else’s – good. Though I have to say I’m not on Team Vampire Council either.
But this guest post rocked. I loved learning more about the Clann, even though I’d never want to live anywhere near their stronghold.
Thanks so much to Melissa Darnell, Harlequin TEEN and Kismet Book Touring for allowing me to be a part of the tour for COVET.

I’m sooo intrigued and drawn to this Clann! Their abilities and their way of work/thinking making sure that their power is everywhere and training themselves to master their abilities! And that dream thing *O* I love it! Specially since you have to be… you know… somewhat connected to that other person in order to have that special connection and even better, there’s a spell for when you want some privacy!!!
