Book Watch: Releasing This Week #93

Oct 07

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of October 9th-October 15th that I have pre-ordered.

Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson will be released in the U.S. on October 9, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 352 pages.

I heard about VALKYRIE RISING ages ago and was instantly intrigued. I love the mythology behind the Valkyrie but hadn’t yet read a book in YA that delved into those myths.

I am so excited this book is finally coming out and that it will land on my Kindle in just a couple of days. I’d hoped to read it early, but as I didn’t get the copy I traded for in time, I’ve had to wait, anxiously, with everyone else for its release. And it’s finally just about here.

I seriously can’t wait to finally meet Ellie and to see just what happens when she heads to Norway to visit her grandmother’s “tranquil fishing village.” A summer filled with mysterious disappearances and “strange whispers” urging her to become one of the Valkyrie sounds just so incredibly exciting and definitely doesn’t fit the definition of peaceful.

This sounds like an awesome book and I am so glad to finally be able to follow along as Ellie tries to solve the mystery of her brother’s disappearance and find out just why she’s feeling the lure of those mythological warriors. And it seems there may even be a love interest in the once infuriating Tuck.

I really hope to take a peek at it this week and start reading it next week, as it’s one of my most anticipated reads this fall.

Velveteen by Daniel Marks will be released in the U.S. on October 9, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Delacorte Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 464 pages.

Velveteen is the first book in a new series of the same name by the author. Two other books in the series, currently untitled, are anticipated.

I only recently put VELVETEEN on my radar. But now that it’s in my sights and is releasing this week, I am so incredibly desperate to get it to the top of my reading pile. Perhaps even the moment it downloads to my Kindle on Monday night.

I spotlighted it very recently for my Book Watch post, so I will be somewhat brief, but it’s a book I’m just so super curious to read. It sounds incredibly dark – death, kidnapping, murder and a “madman named Bonesaw.” It sounds intense and gritty – “bloody punishment,” “devastating consequences” and “revenge.”

And with a rule-breaking heroine and a “hot” and “off-limits” boy, this sounds like such a “me” book.

One that I’m pretty desperate to read and may have to squeeze in this week. To heck with the consequences.

Romeo Redeemed by Stacey Jay will be released in the U.S. on October 9, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Delacorte Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 384 pages.

Romeo Redeemed is the companion novel to author Stacey Jay’s Juliet Immortal.

While I still haven’t had the chance to read Juliet Immortal, I wanted to add ROMEO REDEEMED to my collection this week. I love a Romeo and Juliet story and I’m always curious about modern retellings. Especially this one.

I can’t wait to see if Romeo is able to redeem himself by saving Ariel Dragland’s life. I’m very curious to see just whether he does lose his heart to her or if it is all a deception. And I’m even more curious to see if Ariel ends up believing the truth or a lie, whichever that may be.

This companion novel does veer away a bit from the Romeo and Juliet story, but if Romeo can’t find a happy ending with Juliet I hope he’ll find happiness with Ariel. Or at least do enough to redeem himself and not be cursed to live in his rotting corpse. Ick.

The description promises this is “seductive” and I can’t wait to see if that’s true. I hope to catch up with both books in the series a bit later this fall.

I am so happy that this is a quieter release week. I only have three books pre-ordered. At least I think it’s only three. But I’m just dying to get the chance to add VALKYRIE RISING and VELVETEEN to my pile this week or next week.

I still have so many books from the past few weeks that I’m desperate to read. So I’m glad to only have a few new adds. I just wish I’d already read one or two of them.

I’m not sure just how many books are coming up for release next week, but I think there are a quite a few. Hopefully, though, it will only be five. But I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

But I’d love to know what books you have been pining for that are releasing this week – whether they’re YA or not-so-YA. Maybe there are one or two that I’d love to check out too!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
