The week of September 4th is another insane release week. I mean really, really insane, in the best possible ways. But there was one book that I’ve been dying to read for a long, long time by an author I’ve loved forever and that’s Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr. So, there really was no question in my mind which book I’d be spotlighting this week.
While totally creeped out by the title and the cover – I may have an unnatural fear of carnies – this book sounds wicked awesome. Daimons. Fights to the death. And a place where “murder and pleasure are offered up for sale.” Oh yes, this will definitely be dark and amazing.
I can’t wait to meet Mallory, see what kind of lethal training she’s involved in, and find out who has plans for her and what those plans are. I am curious to see how she gets pulled into the Carnival of Souls and what happens once she’s there.
I also am dying to find out just why everyone knows about her, even though she doesn’t know about everyone else.
The book’s description says the Carnival is a place of “decadence and danger” which has me even more intrigued about just what goes on there. And it describes the story as being about “the struggle to forge one’s own destiny.” I, of course, wonder just what Mallory’s destiny is….
Melissa Marr is such an amazing writer and her books have always been utterly captivating and so very unique. I cannot wait to read Carnival of Souls - I do have an early copy – and find out for myself whether the Carnival is one to fear or one to long for. But with daimons, darkness and danger, I can’t imagine not falling in love.
So, yes, absolutely, definitely, unquestionably, Carnival of Souls is the book to watch this week.

About the Book
In a city of daimons, rigid class lines separate the powerful from the power-hungry. And at the heart of The City is the Carnival of Souls, where both murder and pleasure are offered up for sale. Once in a generation, the carnival hosts a deadly competition that allows every daimon a chance to join the ruling elite. Without the competition, Aya and Kaleb would both face bleak futures–if for different reasons. For each of them, fighting to the death is the only way to try to live.
All Mallory knows of The City is that her father–and every other witch there–fled it for a life in exile in the human world. Instead of a typical teenage life full of friends and maybe even a little romance, Mallory scans quiet streets for threats, hides herself away, and trains to be lethal. She knows it’s only a matter of time until a daimon finds her and her father, so she readies herself for the inevitable. While Mallory possesses little knowledge of The City, every inhabitant of The City knows of her. There are plans for Mallory, and soon she, too, will be drawn into the decadence and danger that is the Carnival of Souls.
From Melissa Marr, bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely series and “Graveminder,” comes a brand-new tale of lush secrets, dark love, and the struggle to forge one’s own destiny.

I’m sooo looking forward to reading Carnival of Souls!
And the trailer is also something to watch.
Oh that’s right the trailer came out. Shoot, I should have had it in this post! I have got to go check it out. Thanks for reminding me!
OMG!! So looking forward to this book!! The cover didn’t totally do it for me, but that synopsis sure is AMAZING!
My WOW
The synopsis is awesome as is Melissa Marr. I wouldn’t have bought it based on cover because it totally freaks me out, but the book itself is all kinds of awesome! Oh and I’ll be sure to check out your wow!
I will read anything Melissa Marr writes!!! I loved Wicked Lovely b/c it was so hauntingly good and this sounds similarly written!! This is YA, right? Did you see from her site the enterthecarnival.com site the publisher (I think?) did? Amazing what their doing for this book (YAY!!) Crap, I missed the trailer, tho!
Me too! I am such a huge fan. Though I refuse to read Darkest Mercy as I am terrified about that series ending. Irrational, yep, but I just can’t. I don’t want to say goodbye to any of those characters and I’m terrified that the ending will be upsetting. Not every thread could tie up as I want it to. Yes this is YA! I saw the site thanks to another commentator’s link.
I haven’t had a chance to fully explore. Also, I’m terrified of carnies so I’m a little afraid to check it all out.
But I’m so happy this is getting such a big push. Melissa Marr totally deserves it!
I am beyond psyched for this book. I also adored Wicked Lovely, I love the premise of this book and I know that Melissa is going to make the writing great and the story dark. I loved the trailer too!
Dude you should have posted the trailer!!!!
