Darkness, Kindled (Fire Spirits #4) by Samantha Young

Coming Fall 2012

***

I am such a huge fan of author Samantha Young. Everything she writes I fall in love with. So when I learned that she was having a cover reveal for an upcoming book in her Fire Spirits series, of course I wanted in.

And when I heard that the cover, as many of hers are, was designed by Claudia McKinney of Phatpuppy Art I knew, sight unseen, that it was going to be gorgeous.

While the description and publication date aren’t yet available for this book, it is still available to add to your Goodreads TBR list. Just click the cover, above. And the first three books in the series, Smokeless Fire, Scorched Skies and the recently released Borrowed Ember are all available to check out on Goodreads.

MY THOUGHTS

This cover is so amazingly beautiful. What grabs me first are the colors. I love the mix of pinks, oranges and yellows. And I love how the brightness only appears on the top right and bottom left, drawing the eye.

I love how the model appears as if she’s both coming out of the smoke or is made of the smoke itself. And I love that the backdrop is dark but not pitch black, as if the light from the smoke is so intense it lights up the entire sky.

The cover model is beautiful and has an elegance to her pose, which does make it appear as if she’s floating or flying. And that her expression, while serene, is slightly intense due to the light color of her irises.

Of all the covers, I love the brightness used to highlight the font in the series title on this one the best. And I love how both the title and author are bolded, three-dimensional and shaded, but yet in slightly different colors of shading.

I could stare at this cover for hours and discover something new hidden in the smoke. Each bright spot feels purposeful. And as a whole the cover not only looks gorgeous but makes complete sense to the book’s title.

I can’t wait have a hard copy of this book in hand, as I’m sure the cover will look even more stunning in print.

Soooo…. that’s what I think… but what do you think?

ABOUT FIRE SPIRITS #1

FEAR THE HEAT…

When eighteen year old Ari Johnson is transported from her bedroom into the chilling realm of Mount Qaf – home to the terrifying and mercurial Jinn – she learns a truth that rocks her very world. Suddenly her anxiety over college and her broken friendship with Charlie seem like small change compared to the war she now finds herself stuck in the middle of. Her unease isn’t lessened any by the hot guardian, Jai, who won’t stop following her around everywhere – a Jinn whose loyalty Ari hates to question but must. She has no idea who she can trust.

When the truth burns through her life in its determination to turn it to ashes, Ari will have to battle with ancient deadly creatures, epic family drama and heart-wrenching romantic entanglements.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’m a 26 year old Scottish book addict and I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2009. I studied ancient and medieval history at uni, and it was in my first year there, in the middle of a classical literature lecture, that I first came up with the idea for The Tale of Lunarmorte. I’ve been writing since as long as I can remember, and I have a particular interest in the paranormal, fantasy and dystopian genres. I love pulling pieces of historical fact (or mythology) and twisting it to fit my stories, and am more than thankful my degree is being put to good use in my writing.

I began self-publishing in 2011 and now write full time.  When I’m not writing, I’m usually thinking about writing or thinking about thinking about writing. When I’m pried from writing you can usually find me either curled up with a good book or my kindle, taking looonnngggg (<—- see what I did there?) walks, swimming (and trying to stay zen when rude older people take up three lanes at a time in what I’m pretty sure is an attempt to drown me), watching a good drama/film or chilling with friends and family. I’m very low-key and very low-maintenance :-p

Currently, I’m living in my home county of Stirlingshire, Scotland.
