Today is a Most Dire Day Indeed + an Unfortunate Giveaway
Jul 13
Today is a most #DireDay thanks to Harper Collins Children’s Books. Yesterday I received three boxes of Lemon Snicket’s THE BAD BEGINNING which was terribly unfortunate for me. But today things are much, much worse.
Because, today, I will be sending this most unpleasant of books out into the world. And I will be spreading my misfortune to YOU.
If Friday the 13th wasn’t enough of a reason to stay indoors and hide yourself away, perhaps knowing that Lemony Snicket and his most wretched book THE BAD BEGINNING will be hitting the streets and taking over a city near you will suffice. And if not? Well, you have been warned. A copy of this most unfortunate book might find its way to you.
But even if you thought you were safe by staying indoors, away from these pitiful books being dropped, you were mistaken. Because there is no escaping this bothersome book.
See? I told you it was a most #DireDay!
While the largest group of these terrible books will be spreading their misery throughout my city, I can’t help but want to share the misery with those across the country and around the world.
And so I will be giving away 30 copies of this most unfortunate book here on the blog – up to 10 of which I will be willing to share internationally. Yes, how unfortunate a day it will be for you!
So if you would like to win a copy of this terrible book, THE BAD BEGINNING, enter for your chance in the form below. And hopefully you, too, will get to experience this #DireDay for yourself.
For Some More Unpleasantness
If you have not yet had the misfortune of meeting Lemony Snicket or learning about this first book in his A SERIES OF MOST UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, you can find more unpleasantness…
On FACEBOOK
On his WEBSITE
On GOODREADS.
And to find other ways to win one of these extremely unpleasant books, be sure to look for the #DireDay tweets on TWITTER. Because as this is such a #DireDay you might just be unlucky enough to win.
A Most Bothersome Book
Dear Reader,
I’m sorry to say that the book you are holding in your hands is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three very unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe. From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news, continuing on through the entire story, disaster lurks at their heels. One might say they are magnets for misfortune.
In this short book alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, and cold porridge for breakfast.
It is my sad duty to write down these unpleasant tales, but there is nothing stopping you from putting this book down at once and reading something happy, if you prefer that sort of thing.
With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

Thanks Bella, good luck!
Love this post! Very well written and a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks Chrystal. Though I had a rather major typo in the giveaway block. Good luck in the giveaway!
I haven’t had a chance to read this series yet, but I’ve been wanting to. Thank you, so much for the awesome giveaway! Always lovin’ your blog, it rocks like you!
Thanks so much Suz! Good luck. I haven’t either. It looks like a lot of fun.
How fun!! Harper Collins always has the best promotions for their books!!!
It was a lot of fun. (Mostly.) And yes they do have great promotions. While this book was out for awhile, there’s nothing quite as fun as sharing books with people who will love them. My favorite drop was the library.
Amazing giveaway, thank you for the chance!!!
Thanks! And good luck Artemis!
So deliciously hilarious and awesome! I mean, ehm How dreadful! Thanks for this very unfortunate opportunity? Now there’s a sentence I never thought I’d write.
Yes, terrible really. You will be most unfortunate if you were to win one of these dreadful books! Bad luck to you!
Hehe. This has been so much fun.
Thanks for the chance to win!
Hi Holly, good luck to you…. Or perhaps bad luck. As it is a most unfortunate book!
I love these promotions! And this book would be great to share with my son and then his school (nothing like getting suck up points from the teachers!!)
Thanks for spreading the book love and doing all this work!! Great giveaway!!
Hi Kristin! It seems I had a typo in my post. The 30 books will go to 30 winners, up to 10 of whom can be international. So sorry! I updated the post. If you do win, I’ll be happy to buy a few copies so that your son can share a few with his school! Of course if Rafflecopter picks you more than once, then you’ll win a couple copies regardless. Good luck! And thanks so much. Sorry for the confusion. It seems the only language I got right was the “International up to 10 copies.”
BWAHAHAHAAHAHAH
Happy?
Friday the 13th
Oh Alba, it is a most unhappy day.
With all these miserable books to deliver it’s been dire indeed.
Awesome giveaway. Happy 13th!
Thanks Katrina! Happy 13th to you too!
Or most unhappy of 13th’s if you happen to win one of these most unfortunate books
Even though I read it, it was my first year of teaching 11 yrs ago. I’d love some copies for my classroom *fingers crossed*
Thanks Jaime! Good luck to you! And if you do win I’ll throw in a few copies to pass around your classroom that I’ll buy. However, due to an error in my post it read 30 copies to one winner instead of 30 copies to 30 winners, though up to 10 of those I will still be shipping internationally if we have 10 international winners.
What a fun promotion
And awesome post!
It’s such a great promotion! It puts the books in readers hands. It gets it out to a new group of people. And it’s just a lot of fun to post and talk about. Good luck!
Such an amusing promotion! Thank you for the wonderful (or should I say terrible?) giveaway
It is terribly amusing! And you might not thank me if you win this bothersome book! It is rather unfortunate or so I’m told. I really should have kept a copy for me!
