Book Watch: Releasing This Week #73

May 21

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of May 22nd-May 28th that I have pre-ordered.

I can’t believe that release date is finally here for Shadow Bound. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever. Although I will have to wait just a bit longer for my Kindle download, I do plan on picking up the print edition when it hits stores on Tuesday.

And while I may have read Shadow Bound a bit earlier in the year, it wasn’t the final version and I wasn’t reading it purely for pleasure like I plan on doing when it releases. So, I’m super excited for release date.

I am such a huge fan of this series. The world is dark, the abilities are definitely different. And Kori is my new favorite character in the series. Which I never thought would happen. I love Liv and Cam, but Kori definitely has that extra something that makes her awesome.

This sequel is even darker, the action is definitely more intense and seeing this story come together from both Kori and Ian’s perspective adds that element of nail-biting suspense I love so much about Rachel Vincent’s books.

I cannot wait to read this book. It’s my most anticipated release this week. And I hope that ending didn’t change….

The Girl in the Clockwork Collar by Kady Cross will be released in the U.S. on May 22, 2012 in hardcover format and will be available in eBook format on June 1, 2012. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 416 pages.

The Girl in the Clockwork Collar is the second book in author Kady Cross’ Steampunk Chronicles.

I absolutely love this series by Kady Cross. I never thought I’d be such a fan of steampunk, but I fell in love with the Steampunk Chronicles last year and am super excited for this sequel’s release.

I have the eBook pre-ordered, although it won’t download until next week, but I may just head to the store to pick up a print edition as I have the first book in print.

As I already spotlighted The Girl in the Clockwork Collar for my Book Watch post a couple weeks ago, I will try not to ramble too much. But I can’t wait to head to New York City circa 1897 with Finley Jayne to find out if she will be able to save Jasper and Mei.

And I can’t wait to see what other steampunk creations are in this re-imagined city. Though I’m already totally freaked out by that clockwork collar. I really, really hope things end well.

Fated by Alyson Noel will be released in the U.S. on May 22, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 368 pages.

Fated is the first book in author Alyson Noel’s new Soul Seekers series. Echo, the second book in the series is due out later this year. And books three and four, Mystic and Horizons, are slated for release in 2013.

I first noticed Fated when I saw its cover a few months back. As a fan of author Alyson Noel I had to check it out. And the description sounded so interesting that I added it to my list of pre-orders.

I love the characters’ names – Daire and Dace – and the premise sounds definitely intriguing. Being able to “navigate between the worlds of the living and the dead” seems like a creepy and yet utterly fascinating ability to have.

I can’t wait to find out if Dace is on Daire’s side in her battle against his evil brother and if they are in fact “meant to be.” And I can’t wait to find out what life is like for Daire in a town called Enchantment. I hope to be able to find out this summer.

Dark Kiss by Michelle Rowen will be released in the U.S. on May 22, 2012 in paperback format and will be available in eBook format on June 1, 2012. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 352 pages.

Dark Kiss is the first book in the Nightwatchers series by author Michelle Rowen. The second book in the series, Wicked Kiss, is slated for release in 2013.

I heard about Dark Kiss awhile back thanks to Jaime of Two Chicks On Books who pointed it out to me on Twitter. The title is awesome as is the premise. So I had to add it to my list of pre-orders the second it was available.

While I did get an eARC for review, I haven’t yet been able to move it to the top of my pile, but I do plan on reading it in the next few weeks. I am so totally intrigued by the idea of this sinister kiss that did something strange to Samantha. But I’m really dying to meet Bishop of the “unearthly blue eyes.”

I am so curious about what it means to be a nightwatcher and whether the darkness inside of Sam is a good thing or a bad thing. And I just can’t wait to find out what kind of evil would cause angels and demons to work together.

This book sounds dark and exciting and I can’t wait to discover this author’s writing, story and characters. This definitely sounds like a “me” series and I am thrilled that it’s releasing this week.

The Lost Code (The Atlanteans #1) by Kevin Emerson

Only four new books for the collection this week, but a couple of them have been books I’ve been dying to read – or re-read as the case may be – for a long time. All four are books for the TBR pile so I’m glad there are only four being added this week.

As I’ve been hiding from the publishers’ catalogs for the past few months I know I’ve been missing a few books I’d normally have added to my pre-orders. But any books I’ve missed I’ve ended up buying after the fact, like Underworld by Meg Cabot. So it really has not helped my wallet very much by staying away.

I did end up visiting Barnes & Noble with the hope of leaving with a nook glow and a copy of Shadow Bound. Both weren’t available. Which means I’ll be taking another trip there on Tuesday. But it seems I can never leave a bookstore empty-handed and I can never walk past a signed book, even if I don’t keep signed books that aren’t personalized. Both things that I definitely have to work on.

But for now… happy book buying and reading!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

  1. The Clockwork Collar and Fated, must get!

  2. SHADOW BOUND!! I am beyond excited to read this (my pre-order better be on time!), and I am so happy to hear you say that you liked Kori even better than Liv – that’s saying a lot!

I read Dark Kiss a couple of days ago, and I really liked it, but it wasn’t as amazing as I wanted it to be..:)

I seriously hope Shadow Bound arrived today! I never thought I’d love Kori. Not after meeting her in Blood Bound. But right from the start I caved. She was awesome. Vulnerable but totally kick-a**.

I picked up Dark Kiss the other night but switched to Demon Eyes once I saw your comment. Thanks for the heads up. I need amazing right now.

  3. I haven’t read anything by Alyson… Would you recommend it? I know you’ve read some, if not all of her books…

    T_T Rachel Vincent who? T_T

I’ve read the first five books in the author’s The Immortals series. I loved the first three, was less enamored by the next two.

I won’t give an opinion until I’ve read the series closer to determine whether it is worth just reading the first three or sticking it out to the end.

I also read one of the books in her Riley Bloom series, which is more of a middle grade series. That was super cute.

I’ll let you know what I think about Fated when I read it.

The author has a fun, light style to her writing. The books weren’t super deep or twisty-turny. Very different from Rachel Vincent’s writing style.

A ban on eBooks, oh Alba nooooo! LOL!

  4. I am very excited about the Clockwork Collar also, the first book was soooo good.

I saw it in your newsletter this a.m. for the Hot New Releases! I loved that first book and Finley is quite a character. I wish I’d read it before release but I won’t complain too much. Just means a shorter wait for me! :)

  5. I really enjoyed The Girl in the Clockwork Collar–steampunk is just so cool! I also have Dark Kiss waiting for me. Looks really good.
