Black Heart is the third book in the Curse Workers series by author Holly Black.

Do I really need to explain why Black Heart is THE book to watch this week for me? Well, just in case you didn’t know, I am a huge fangirl of this series. HUGE. And I have been going through withdrawal for the past year.

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I last got a peek at one of my favorite male characters in YA fiction. Cassel Sharpe is amazing. He’s just so amazing. And this series is unbelievable. It’s gritty and dark and totally noir-ish. I love the curse workers… okay, maybe not all the curse workers, but their powers are awesome.

I sadly did not get an early copy to read, though I did put in a request, or I would have dropped everything to read it. But I’m so super glad that the wait is over in less than a month. I am counting the days. And if I could hold my breath until then I totally would.

While I’m devastated that the cover isn’t the one that was originally planned, as I loved that cover, I will be getting it for my Kindle so I’m sure I’ll survive. But those covers, while not matchy-matchy, really evoked the feeling of how I imagined the stories to be.

I did take a peek at the description a few months back when the wait got to be too much and it made me even more desperate to find out just what Cassel Sharpe was going to be asked to do. This boy has been trying so hard to stay on the side of right but everyone wants him to side with wrong and I’m curious to see just who wins out.

I never know what to expect from author Holly Black, aside from amazing writing and stories I love. But I have no idea where she plans on taking this story or just what she’ll do to her characters.

I am a little bit afraid for Cassel, and am especially worried he’ll be in for heartbreak and betrayal. I really hope that’s not the case, but those curse workers aren’t the most trustworthy sort.

While there are two other books I am dying to read that are releasing on April 3rd, Black Heart is undoubtedly my most anticipated book releasing that week and a book that I just had to put in the spotlight.

And if you’re like me and just can’t wait either, here is a small excerpt from Chapter One from Holly Black’s Tumblr.

Goodreads description:

Cassel Sharpe knows he’s been used as an assassin, but he’s trying to put all that behind him. He’s trying to be good, even though he grew up in a family of con artists and cheating comes as easily as breathing to him. He’s trying to do the right thing, even though the girl he loves is inextricably connected with crime. And he’s trying to convince himself that working for the Feds is smart, even though he’s been raised to believe the government is the enemy.

But with a mother on the lam, the girl he loves about to take her place in the Mob, and new secrets coming to light, the line between what’s right and what’s wrong becomes increasingly blurred. When the Feds ask Cassel to do the one thing he said he would never do again, he needs to sort out what’s a con and what’s truth. In a dangerous game and with his life on the line, Cassel may have to make his biggest gamble yet—this time on love.

  1. Am I the only one on the planet that hasn’t read this books of hers or ANY????
I think I actually DIED one day that she replied to a tweet of mine…but was so ashamed that I haven’t even SEEN them come here *_______*
    WHY ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Argh…everyone I know that has read these books LOVE them and haven’t been able to contain themselves from telling me so and are DYING as you, to get to read this one. You all guys are so lucky!

But true…I’ll say it again. I LOVED the old covers WAY more than this ones…I can’t even imagine how they can resemble the tittles of the series, these new covers. But well… ^__^

  2. Aleksandra says:

Yeah, I can’t wait to read this one, I agree that Cassel is such an amazing character & I loved both books.

I’m still really mad & sad about the change of the covers 🙁 The old ones were perfect, they really did fit the tone of the series…

  3. I liked the original covers too, but like you I will be getting it for my eReader so I can deal with it. I am really excited for this book. I needed it like right when I finished Red Glove. Only a few weeks to go!!!

  4. I want to read this BADLY!

Oh me too! I’m super jealous of the people who got ARCs. My requests were supposedly forwarded, but I think I asked months too soon and I doubt they were considered too carefully what with my small blog. But I wish Galley Grab didn’t go away.

  5. Jess says:

Yeah ! I can’t wait for this book either. I’m used to hearing Jesse Eisenburg in the audibook that the trailer threw me off for a second !

Did they have a concept for the original cover ? It’s kind of sad that they won’t match.

  6. Avery says:

I will be getting it for my Kindle so I’m sure I’ll survive.

BAHAHAHA! Do Kindles even show covers anymore? Okay, so I know that they do, but I feel like whenever I start a book on my Kindle it is preset to the first page so that I if I do want to see the cover I have to backtrack. Unfortunately I’m behind on this series, I just read White Cat. But I gotta say, I personally do prefer the new covers over the old (which is kinda strange since I typically HATE it when they change covers on us, like with Delirium and Wolfsbane).

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Mine queues up to the first page, too. Sometimes I backtrack so that I can be sure I didn’t miss the prologue, LOL.

But I think all the new S&S covers have a 1980s feel. Not thrilled.

But mainly I have the first two books in the series personally signed and so now they’ll never match. Devastating.
