My Reading Pile #51

Fiktshun009

I really thought my signed A Touch Morbid books would be here. And they may be, but my building locked up the package room early yesterday so I won’t find out until later.

But it’s not like I didn’t get any books this week. Quite a few actually. More than half of them are either packed up and in the mail going to someone else, or packed up waiting.

As I am sharing what I received in my mailbox this week, I’m giving credit to Kristi at The Story Siren who came up with the idea of sharing what’s in her mailbox each week.

For Review, From the Aether, From a Trade

At the top of the pile is Gilt by Katherine Longshore, a lovely surprise I received from Penguin for review. As I wasn’t even aware Penguin had my details on file this was an awesome surprise and a book I will definitely check out.

I’m guessing a friend ordered Pandemonium for me from Amazon, because I already received my copy earlier in the week. As the package was torn open there was no receipt or notice as to who might have sent it….

And finally…from this pile anyway… I received Flyaway and In a Heartbeat from a trade awhile back with Alex of Electrifying Reviews.

From a Trade

I did a sort of lump sum trade with one of the bloggers I trade with, tacking on Dreamless and Until I Die to give to a blogger friend. I hadn’t heard of many of these, but I figured I would have a nice set of books I could give away if I didn’t find them to be my kind of books.

From Yet Another Trade

And I received another box of books from a trade with Alex earlier in the week. I have found happy homes for these already since I have the finished versions on my Kindle and I just have no more room on my book towers.

Anyway, onto to the pile…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.

(March 4 – March 10, 2012)

***

First up is Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin. I requested and received a copy for review from the publisher, HarperTeen, a few weeks ago. I hadn’t been able to add it to the pile earlier because of a few deadlines, but I can wait no longer.

The cover is amazing. The description is even more amazing:  A “devastating plague,” a nightclub called the “Debauchery Club,” a character seeking oblivion and two interesting and enticing boys with secrets.

And I couldn’t help but be ensnared by a description that starts with “Everything is in ruins.”

While I have some catch up to do from last week’s pile, I really can’t wait to start reading this mid-week.

Next up on the pile is Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins, a “Back on the Pile” add. I received a copy, upon request, from HarperTeen and have been dying to read it ever since. I was devastated when I couldn’t read it as planned a couple weeks ago, but I will be reading it no matter what later this week.

Everything about this book screams that it’s a “me” book. The title, the cover, the description. Everything. And from the chatter around the blogosphere, it’s even more amazing than I could have imagined.

I’ve also heard that Kaidan Rowe is the character to meet. He’s all sorts of awesome, plus he’s drop-dead gorgeous and a drummer. A total WIN in my book.

I’m not a patient person. And I am a mood reader. And I’ve been in the mood to read this long before it arrived so there’s no way this isn’t going to get read before I start on next week’s pile.

Wishful Thinking reads:

I have two this week, actually. One YA and one non-YA.

I would love to read Illuminate by Aimee Agresti. After checking out the description when I was putting my Extras post together I became intrigued with this book. I received a copy through a trade not knowing anything about it, but now that I do, I really, really want to read it. The setting sounds beautiful and the idea of buying souls sounds wonderfully dark.

And for my non-YA pick, I am desperately wishing and wanting to read One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. After finishing Halfway to the Grave last week I’ve been suffering from serious Cat and Bones withdrawal. I must find a way to read this next book in the series and turn it from a wish list read to a current read. Somehow….

Those left behind:

Wow, another week of falling behind. But this time it was the flu that did me in, so I had an excuse. I read absolutely nothing this week. Not one book. I could barely focus on my computer to eek out a few posts let alone sit for hours and read.

I am planning on catching up on The Weeping and Northanger Alibi before starting the two books on the pile this week. But even if I have to add no new books to the pile next week, I won’t let another reading week go by without having devoured Sweet Evil or Masque of the Red Death.

NetGalley Pile Adds:

I did go a little NetGalley crazy last week/weekend. I requested Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers as well as Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama, Speed of Light by Amber Kizer and Hanging by a Thread by Sophie Littlefield. And I got approved for all. I have the first two books in print format already, one of which, Grave Mercy, was a review copy. But in case I was out and about with my Kindle I wanted to be able to have a digital copy as backup.

And I did get approved for Of Poseidon by Anna Banks. Yay! My only pending request is Endure by Carrie Jones, but I’ll just have to read that after it releases. But that’s just fine, because now I officially have way too many books on the digital pile.

***

My design projects have ended – sadly – and I’m pretty much recovered from the flu though I’m still a little fuzzy-headed, so I seriously hope to do some major reading and reviewing this week. While it’s good to get some sleep now and again, it’s a freaky thing to lose so many workable hours each day.

Anyway, I hope you all have a super happy reading week!

Do you create a reading pile?

If so, what’s in your pile this week?

  • Ina Says:

Oh, what a beautiful stack (or stacks? :) ) of books you got this week! :)

I love your reading pile and I’m already looking forward to your review of “Masque of the Red Death”!!! I’m hoping to finish “Before I Fall” by Lauren Oliver tomorrow or the day after, so I can finally start “MSTSave”. I can’t believe it’s already March and I haven’t even read a word of it yet. Well, at least I did read “Niederwald” and I started “Fearless”. ;) That reminds me, I better get to writing my thoughts on “Niederwald”. :D

  • Bookluvr Mindy Says:

I asked for Masque but I didn’t get it. *tears* I’m gonna pre-order it. But I as soon as I’m done with the 3 books I already started… I’m picking up Sweet Evil. It has been glaring at my on my bookshelf. And Jaime isn’t making it any easier to wait.

  • Avery Says:

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Masque of Red Death so I am really curious to check it out (especially with people comparing it to Dearly, Departed which I LOVED). And yep, I got Pandemonium this past week as well! I really want to read it, but I think I should reread Delirium first… Shucks. ;)

  • ephrielle Says:

Sweet Evil is so awesome. I am so glad you put it back on the pile. I really want to get a copy of my own. I borrowed it from a friend. Good thing there is only a couple of months left to wait. It shouldn’t be too hard to wait as I am swamped in books to read. Must find my way to the surface before May when some really sweet books release. I think I am a bit jealous of all your stellar friends that have so many books to trade. Have a great week reading!

  • YA-Sisterhood Says:

UMMM, yep! I pretty jealous of your copy of DREAMLESS at the moment!!!! What a great haul you got this week!!!
