Soul Screamers Reading Challenge Begins

Today is the first day of the Soul Screamers Reading Challenge! If you’ve already signed up, then you’re all set to START READING… or RE-READING!

If you haven’t signed up, just click on the badge above for details on what the challenge is and what you could win if you participate.

Month One

January 15 – February 14, 2012

The goal for this first month of the challenge will be to read My Soul to Take.

[stextbox id=”custom” color=”ffffff” bcolor=”000000″ bgcolor=”9f0d28″ big=”true”]

Goodreads description:

She doesn’t see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who’ll be next.

First, I want to thank all of you who have already signed up to participate in this reading challenge. I had no idea there would be this many people signing on for the event and I am so surprised and super, super excited!

If everyone who signed up posts a review at any point during this challenge, there will be a lot of pre-order copies of Before I Wake for giveaway at the end of the challenge!

What do you need to do?

1. Start reading!

Hopefully you were able to wait to start reading your first challenge book until the event started, but if you just couldn’t wait and got a jump-start on your reading, you’re ahead of the game.

You have all month to read this first book – or any book in the series – you are starting this challenge with.

2. Post your review or thoughts!

Whether you’ve decided to post a review, or just create a post with your thoughts about the book, you have until February 14th to do so to be entered into any of this month’s giveaways and to earn an entry into the end-of-challenge Before I Wake giveaway.

3. Leave your link!

Be sure to come back here and leave a link to your post – wherever that may be – Blog, Facebook, Goodreads, Tumblr, etc. If you don’t leave the link, you won’t be entered into the giveaway.

If you don’t have anywhere to post your thoughts or review, please leave a comment with a way to get in touch and if your review (or thoughts) are positive, I’ll post them as a guest post on my blog, Soul Screamers Reading Challenge.

Reviews or thoughts posts must be from January 15 through February 14, 2012 ONLY.

What are this month’s incentives?

[stextbox id=”custom” color=”ffffff” bcolor=”fa37db” bgcolor=”540b79″]

Two winners will receive a Rachel Vincent book of their choice ordered from Amazon or The Book Depository

One winner will receive a signed copy of My Soul to Keep.

Four winners will receive a Kindle eBook of Never to Sleep.

Two winners will receive a Kindle eBook of Reaper or My Soul to Lose.

In case you wanted to know….

Extra Credit Reads

You can post your reviews for any of the extra credit reads at any time during the challenge. Each extra credit read will give you an additional entry into the Before I Wake giveaway at the end of the challenge AND will give you an extra entry into that month’s giveaway.

SO, if you want extra chances to win a specific prize, be sure to hold off on posting your reviews for the extra credit reads until the month of that giveaway prize!

What if I don’t finish the book this month?

That’s OKAY. You can post your review or thoughts next month, or at any time during the challenge. And you can leave more than one link during each month of the challenge.

What if I’ve signed up, but never read any books during the months of this challenge?

That’s OKAY. We all have things in life that sometimes take priority. You won’t be eligible for any of the giveaways without at least one review or thoughts post, but no one will judge you for signing up and not doing anything beyond that!

The fact that you want to read the author’s amazing books is awesome! And whether you read them now, or in the future, you’ll be discovering a series that I think it is pretty amazing.

What if I’ve already reviewed the book?

If this is a re-read for you, you can simply create a post about this book talking about what you found different the second (or third, or fourth or…) time around. If you are a blogger, you can always link to your original review in that discussion post so that people can check out what you thought on first read.

BUT, you cannot simply repost your original review to be eligible for the giveaway. AND you cannot leave a link to an old post. All posts must be created during the dates of each challenge month.

The first book I plan on reading for the challenge isn’t My Soul to Take, so why start now?

If you are starting this challenge by reading any book other than My Soul to Take, you can still post your reviews for that book during this month’s challenge post. It will give you an entry into this month’s giveaway and will count as an entry toward the end-of-challenge Before I Wake pre-order giveaway. But, you won’t get an extra entry for posting your review during the scheduled read month for that book.

While the disadvantage is that you won’t get the extra entry, there are advantages to reading the book early and participating from the start.

One of the advantages to reading it now – and posting a review or discussion post – as opposed to waiting for the scheduled month, is that you’ll be eligible for this month’s giveaway prize. You may also discover that once you finish reading the series you’ll want to go back and re-read those first books – trust me, If I Die is a game-changer and it is very likely that you’ll be interested in doing just that.

So, by participating now, you’ll have the time later on during the challenge to re-read those books and by creating a post be eligible for those other giveaways and get yet another entry into the Before I Wake giveaway.

How are the giveaway prizes going to be decided?

The giveaway winners’ names will be drawn on FEBRUARY 18th.

For this month’s giveaway prizes, Random will be drawing numbers based on the linky number associated with your post.

Each giveaway will be drawn separately.

If you’ve won and you do not wish to receive that prize, the next number on the list that Random drew will be the winner.

And guess what….

[stextbox id=”custom” color=”ffffff” bcolor=”fa37db” bgcolor=”540b79″]

Author Rachel Vincent will be conducting spoiler chats after each month’s read for that book only. So, at some point in the second half of February, there will be a My Soul to Take spoiler chat! Check out her blog post HERE to learn more.

If that weren’t enough, she mentions that after the release of Before I Wake, which comes out on June 26, 2012 in the U.S., there will be a discussion and spoiler chat for that book too! How AWESOME is that!?!

Leave your links below for posts created from January 15 through February 14, 2012. I will leave the linky open until February 17th for those who may have forgotten to leave them, but I have to close it fairly quickly so that Random can choose names for the giveaway prizes.

Let’s see those posts!

This is sooo exciting!!! I’m in the middle of reading “Halo” by Alexandra Adornetto, but I’m hoping to squeeze in “My Soul to Lose” later tonight, so I can start with “My Soul to Take” as soon as I’m done with “Halo”. Hopefully, it won’t take me more than 2 or 3 more days, because I really, really want to get started with the challenge. 😀 Thank you again so, so much for hosting this awesome challenge, Rachel!!! 🙂

  5. I just got my books in the mail this week! I am so excited to start reading this series 🙂

  6. Thank you for the reminder! At the moment I only have book one AHHH! LOl

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Oh Lucy! Well, hopefully you’ll get more, but even reading one is awesome! And maybe you’ll win one or two or the eBook novellas! 🙂

  7. Fiktshun009 says:

Hi, I had to delete the link someone left as they didn’t leave an actual link and used my name. I’m not sure who they are or if it was a mistake, but if they do have a review, they should try to link it again. Thanks!

  8. Shaft says:

Hey this is Shaft from Shaft’s Words Blog and you can find my review at
Thanks again for running this contest. Could you let me know that the link is ok?

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Hey Shaft, the link works! If you want to be entered into the giveaways you need to add it to the Linky list above where it says “Click Here” but the link works to your post! I’ll be checking it out a little later today.

Thanks for joining in the challenge.

  9. Oh, crap! I really want to enter this challenge but I read the first book – My Soul to Take – around January 10th and posted the review in my blog in January 14th. Do I really need to read again for only one day apart? Or can it, please, count?

  10. anna says:

So glad I signed up. Loved book one and can’t wait to read the next. Holding out until next month is going to drive me crazy! 🙂

  11. Bella says:

Here is my review for the first book, i posted it on Goodreads and my blog but I gave you my Facebook link!!;))

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Awesome! Did you also post the link in the “month one” linky? That’s where you’ll get an entry into the monthly giveaway! But I’ll be sure to check out your review. 🙂

  12. reading mind says:

Hi! I do not have a blog, but I have my review of the book ready! Can I send it to you?
    Let me know!

    aliasgirl at libero dot it

  13. Fiktshun009 says:

Entry #11 for Kristin at Goodreads doesn’t link to the review. If you are Kristin – please make sure to email me the link to your review. It only links to the book on Goodreads.

Entry #37 for Liz E at Goodreads. Your link only goes to the book on Goodreads and not your review. Please email me the link and I can update it in the Linky list.

Entry #48 for Helene. It seems your Facebook page doesn’t load with the link you left. If you can email me with the link, I’ll update it in the list.

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Hi Kat! Thanks for joining in! You have to put them in the Linky so you’ll get a number for the giveaways.

  14. I’m excited about reading these books!! Great idea for this reading challenge.

  15. I totally spaced and didn’t put my blog name in front of my link, I blame the cold medication 🙂

If it is needed, the entry 101 Re-Reading My Soul To Take is from Unabridged Bookshelf.

    • Fiktshun009 says:

Oh it’s not a problem at all. I’ll fix just so it’s there for people who may want to click to check it out. But as long as it linked to the right place, I’d have it set for posting on the other blog and for the monthly and end of challenge giveaway. 🙂

  16. Aishah says:

I’ve left a link on the link and it directs to my blog and the first post is my first review of ‘My Soul to Take’. Is that ok because i forgot to directly link to the bog post :/

    • Fiktshun009 says:

It’s totally fine, but if you want to email me the direct link, I’ll update it on the linky! fiktshun[at]gmail[dot]com.

  17. Aishah says:

*I’ve left a link on the linky and it directs to my blog and the first post is my first review of ‘My Soul to Take’. Is that ok because i forgot to directly link to the blog post :/

  18. Kelsey says:

I love this challenge, I’ve started reading this series for the first time and already love it! Submitted my review above as well 🙂

  19. Fiktshun009 says:

Kat #92, #93 and #94, as all three links are for the same review you will only be counted for the one you marked as “Review” which is #94.

Putting Pen to Page – As you have both reviews in one and only left one linky, I’ll have to assign you a number at the end so the 2nd review will count for a second entry. I’ll put that number in the comments along with anyone else who has done the same later today. Stay tuned.

Kelsey’s Cluttered Bookshelf – As you reviewed all three of the books in the omnibus edition, I’ll assign you two extra numbers at the end of the linky for purposes of entries into the giveaways. I’ll put those numbers in the comments along with anyone else who has done the same later today.

Read, Write, Leave – As you have both reviews in one and only left one linky, I’ll have to assign you a number at the end so the 2nd review will count for a second entry. I’ll put that number in the comments along with anyone else who has done the same later today.

    • Kat says:

Yeah Sorry about those multiple links, I realizes I mistakenly post one link that wasn’t the actual review and the other was my goodread.

  20. Fiktshun009 says:

RandomMusings, Bookworm Brandee, Mishelvesofbooks and The Book Barbies – while the linky was open through 2/17, reviews for the “Month One Reviews” had to have been posted only through February 14th to be included in this month’s challenge.

Your reviews didn’t post until February 15th and 16th, so they can only be applied for the month 2 challenge giveaway. If you can, please re-enter those links into the Month Two challenge linky.

    Thank you!

I only left the linky open for a few extra days for anyone who had posted a review earlier but forgot to include it above.

  21. Fiktshun009 says:

Updates as of the time names are being drawn:

#37 Liz E. Liz, the link did not go to your review so I couldn’t enter you into this month’s giveaway. If you email it to me, I’ll update it so you’ll be eligible for the end of challenge extra entry and I’ll give you an entry for this review into next month’s giveaway.

#48 Helene – I never heard back from you and your link doesn’t go to a working page on Facebook that I can view.

Bella – I saw that you input your Goodreads review into the Linky though you left the FB link in comments. So you are all set for this month’s giveaway and the entry into the end of challenge giveaway.

Katrina Whittaker while you didn’t respond or put your link into the linky, your review is valid and I’ve assigned you Linky #123 for this month’s giveaway and I will enter you into the end of challenge giveaway with the extra entry..

Kat – As mentioned above, you will only be assigned linky #94 for purposes of the giveaways.

Putting Pen to Page – Since you had two reviews in one post, you will get the original #112 for the giveaway entry and you are also assigned #124 for purposes of the giveaway for the 2nd review.

Kelsey’s Cluttered Bookshelf – Since you reviewed the two books plus the novella in one review for the omnibus, you get three entries into this month’s giveaway. You will get your original #115 for the purposes of the giveaway, plus #125 and #126.

Rose, aka Read, Write, Leave – You still get the entry at #117 for your review, but since you had two reviews in that post, you will also be assigned #127 for a second entry into this month’s giveaway.

Random Musings of a Bibliophile, Bookworm Brandee and The Book Barbies, since your reviews were not posted between the dates of January 15 through February 14th, they won’t count toward this month’s giveaway. You can re-enter those review links to be eligible for the Month Two giveaways. But because those reviews were not posted during the first month of the challenge you won’t get the extra entry for having posted them between the challenge month dates.

Michelle @ Mishelvesofbooks – Your My Soul to Take review was not posted during the dates of this month’s challenge. You can enter it into next month’s linky list to be eligible for next month’s giveaway. I also noticed that you wrote a review for My Soul to Lose which you did not link above, but was posted during this month’s challenge. So, your linky number above, #121, for the My Soul to Lose review, will be counted. Please enter your My Soul to Take review link into the Month Two linky list.

Good luck to everyone! I will be drawing numbers via Random for each prize and the winners will be announced on the Soul Screamers Reading Challenge blog!

  22. Bella says:

Ugh sorry I will get it right 2nd book!! Lol I hope thanks;)))
